  • "Our first visit to Taranta (in 2007) was a pleasant surprise. Our return visit seven years later was, if anything, even better. The food is still unique and very, very good. The wine list is still small, but filled with great wine at relatively reasonable prices. The service is friendly and helpful. Often a return visit to a good restaurant, particularly after a number of years, can be disappointing (it isn't as good as you recall, the ambiance has changed for the worse, or the menu now seems dated). Taranta has, somehow, bucked this trend and remains vibrant. And, most importantly, the food is still great. "

  • "I arrived about 15 minutes early (before the rest of my party) and I was seated at a great table with a street. One person in my party needs gluten-free food and the waiter was knowledgeable and accommodating in making some simple switches to meet her needs. Everyone but me cleaned their plates. I had the fabulous double cut pork chop and was delighted to have some left over to take home. My friends ordered a wine they loved and I had the Merlot by the glass which was also great. So, great food and service all around. We did decide to go to Mike's for dessert. It is just too good a North End experience to pass up. (Try the Espresso Cannoli there.)"

  • "The idea of the peru/Italian fusion got us in the door. Felt the menu looked great, but the flavors were good but unremarkable. fish was the best thing on the menu. Tables were very crowded. Ask for a table up front. Lots of bad locations for tables."

  • "The food and service were both great. The only reason I didn't give it all 5 stars is that they kept throwing empty bottles into the recycling causing a loud crash. It was very jarring. It happened nearly a dozen times during dinner. If you are not on the ground floor, this may not be an issue. This is a great North End restaurant if you have someone in your party that is not interested in pasta. There are many great options for carnivores as well. We had the yucca gnocchi, the salmon, and the double cut pork chop. All delicious."

  • "I went to Taranta on Saturday night with my husband & his family to celebrate his 50th birthday. We had a great server, Maris, & the atmosphere was wonderful. We sat at the long table near the floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the main street. We ordered two bottles of wine, cocktails, starters, meals, & dessert. Everything was fabulous. To start, I ordered the misto salad; I think it was the best salad I've ever had! For my meal, I got the paparadelle with truffle oil & mushrooms; it was amazing! The pasta was perfect! For dessert I got limoncello sorbet; it was delicious. My husband got the cassava root gnocchi with lamb ragu; he loved it! Chef Jose Duarte chatted with us & asked about our meals. I highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "The restaurant was just fine. Nothing wowed us. Nothing thrilled us. The setting was lovely, but it was noisy upstairs----not intimate like they had said. The brick walls were a nice touch. The waiter forgot to put our order in,so the wait was long. He compensated us with a free bottle of wine. My father---whose birthday we were celebrating---had to return his food because it was too cold (after waiting an inordinate time for it).It was fine but not necessarily the spot that I wanted to have to celebrate a birthday."

  • "We had a larger group - 10 people - and some of our friends arrived later than expected. The waitstaff at Taranta were very attentive and never made us feel rushed at all. The food was amazing - so many great options - and no one was disappointed. The lobster & crab ravioli and the whole baked trout were big hits at the table. We had plans of having our desserts elsewhere, since we were in the North End, but once we sampled some of the desserts at Taranta, were so glad we changed our minds. The tiramasu and the hazelnut mousse were amazing. Overall such a great night out and can't wait to go back and try something new!"

  • "I came here for restaurant week, so I was able to enjoy an appetizer, main course and dessert for $38. The food was incredible. Everything was delicious. I usually find Italian food to be a smidgen too salty, but this was perfectly seasoned. The meat was incredibly tender and melted in my mouth. On a normal night, you will pay a fairly large amount for this level of deliciousness. For me, that would cause this restaurant to be a "special occasions only" type of place. Restaurant week allowed me to enjoy Taranta without destroying my wallet, which I very much appreciated."

  • "We went to this restaurant for our daughter's 30 birthday dinner. We chose it because it was "green" and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of both the service and food. We did go there on a slow night, not sure how it would be on a busy night. Very nice, pricey but great for a special dinner."

Both servings were generous and I was disappointed not to finish it all!! My only wish is that they open a companion restaurant in Melbourne Australia, where I am sure they would do extremely well."

  • "We took our 16 & 14 year olds who are not picky eaters, but the menu was limited. We were looking forward to traditional Italian fare. However, there was no garlic bread, fried calamari, etc. which my husband and I were fine without but the kids were looking forward to it. They did not have spaghetti/linguini on the menu but they did have a fuselli and lasagna-type noodle which the kids liked. I had the special salad; was very good but when I askled for grilled chicken for it, they couldn't accomodate, instead gave me a piece of the 'specials' chicken which was stuffed with mozzarella and spinach and they charged full chicken special price for it. Service was good and atmosphere was nice but we will not be back for the limited menu options."

  • "Had dinner here with my husband and at first we were unsure whether our choice was the right one, but after tasting the food all worries were put aside. The food here is fantastic! The sauces were to die for! We both had the lobster and crab ravioli and we could not get enough. The staff was attentive but a bit slow. We waited a bit between courses which is always disappointing but the food, once served, made up for the wait."

  • "The atmosphere was excellent, lighting was nice for a Valentine's Day date. Unfortunately, some elegant, but very drafty windows on the second floor, where we were seated, permitted quite a wintry breeze to infiltrate the dining room. Brr. Service was pleasant, not overbearing. $7 for bottled water. My date's beef tenderloin was the night's victory, owing to a decent chocolate/chile sauce, but her potatoes au gratin were under-seasoned, as was my paiche (fish) and risotto (think it was risotto). Great saffron sauce and seasoned spinach greens, but the dish did not come together. The culinary elements meant to be 'fused' were not so, and not worth the fixed price we paid."

  • "Went for valentine's day and was not impressed. The place itself looked great, but for a $70 pre-fixe menu, the food was not up to par and the service was questionable. We had the wrong food delivered to us twice because apparently they split up their larger tables into two-tops and did not figure out an adequate way of re-numbering the new tables so that food runners got the food to the correct table. We were given plenty of space and time to enjoy the evening, and the ambience was quite nice. However, the server seemed aloof at the table and, again, the food (except for the steak skewers, which were incredible) was unexciting. I might go back on a different night (i.e. not valentine's day), but probably will not."

  • "As ridiculous as it may sound, he salads were one of my favorite dishes here! I have neverhad a salad that was dressed as well as this one. Perfection! The main course was a chicken with crispy polenta and roasted tomato. Stunning! I would recommend this restaurant to couples and friends looking for a unique experience and some of the best food in the North End!"

I had beef tenderloin, cooked perfect, she had a pasta dish with spicy sausage which was also amazing. Great wine selection as well. I suggest for a nice night out or special occasion. The men and women of Taranta have a finger on the pulse of warm hospitality that is natural with narry a feeling of it being rehearsed or less than genuine. The combinations of tastes in the culinary creations are mesmerizing and the wine list is limited in all the right ways! Going "home" to Taranta I always expect to see Peruvian grandmothers emerge from the kitchen to tell me to "eat it all or no dessert"!!!"

  • "We booked this at the last minute based on the time we wanted to dine and Open Table reviews. What a wonderful dining experience! We were taken to the 3rd floor (before being warned that the restrooms were in basement), and initially were the only diners on this level. The service was exemplary but the food was even better! We will definitely return!"

  • "We have been to Taranta for dinner numerous times and always found our dinners and service excellent. However this time we were not satisfied. The antipasti was disapointing with the stuffed pepper bland and falling apart, numerous selections chewy and lacking there usual preparation and taste. Only the mushrooms and asparagus lived up to expectations. Our entree were simerely lacking. the pasta chewy and under-cooked and dry but the sauce and mushrooms were tasty. The chicken was just okay."

  • "I was visiting Boston for a few days to catch up with a friend who was also in town. We've both eaten in Italy so Italian food can be hit or miss. Pretty much everything on the menu looked excellent. Both my entree and my friend's were excellent. We had the lucumisu for desert and it was amazing. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable without hovering. The food and service were definitely worth the price. I don't typically eat out at more pricey restaurants but I'd definitely eat here again."

  • "We were seated where we'd requested, second floor by the window, overlooking the street, a very nice view. The building is old and the exposed brick and granite is nice. The service was good, not pushy and we did not feel rushed, even as the restaurant started to fill up. The mussels and octopus were good. The lobster and crab ravioli could have had more meat and the salmon was a but dry. Overall, all six of us were happy with our choices; six adults, three apps, four entrees, two bottles of wine and five individually poured glasses totaled $425, a reasonable sum. I'd go back."

  • "Taranta is a gem among many unoriginal restaurants in the North End. The food continues to be an eclectic mix of Italian and Peruvian cuisine using very fresh produce and good cuts of meat. I particularly like the bold sauces that accompany several of their dishes. (I was there with someone who was happy to split several dishes with me). The service was attentive and friendly; our waiter didn't rush us out the door. The atmosphere is comfortable and exotic with dim lighting and an interesting mosaic tile floor. I will definitely return."
