Popcorn appetizer was too sweet and mostly lacked a bacon flavor, but everything else was spot-on. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive -- he could not have been better. Overall, a wonderful experience.

There were 3 of us. We tried (and shared) several of the small plates which were very good. For our large dish, we had the chicken which we all thought was undercooked.
The service was very good. The only down side was that the restaurant was very noisy so it was hard to have a conversation.

Tar and Roses, a trendy new gastro-pub like experience on Santa Monica and 6, is off to a wonderful start. The food was excellent, the service once we sat down was great and the atmosphere is really fun. Be warned however, since it is new you will find yourself waiting for table even if you have a reservation (we waited more than 30 minutes for our reservation, which I wouldn't mind if they'd just tell you that up front). Overall wonderful new place in Santa Monica.

The small plates are all excellent and the prices are reasonable. We ate well beyond our heart's content. The kitchen is obviously talented and inspired. They know how to pair and showcase flavor, texture, color and seasonality.

The place is inviting but is a small space so tables are a tight fit. The grilled octopus was great and memorable. All the other dishes were flavorful and enjoyable. Service was good for a busy night. Will go back again.

Loved almost everything about this place, from the warm welcome on. Beautiful, relaxing, fantastic food, wine, etc. The only turn-offs were 1) the raise in prices after only being open a few months and 2) the price of the wines was over the top compared to other restaurants in this league. Otherwise, a major keeper. Will recommend it to all.
