  • Private Party Facilities: Our patio area can accommodate up to 30 guests for a seated dinner or 40 guests for a cocktail reception. The space is suited to a wide array of gatherings from birthday celebrations to business meetings and rehearsal dinners. The patio features a retractable roof, overhead heaters and an intimate ambiance that creates a comfortable environment year round.

    Parties between 31 and 100 can be accommodated with a full restaurant buyout.

    All parties of ten or more are served a family-style menu that we work with you to plan.

    Any party larger than ten requires a buy-out of the patio. The patio is available for the whole evening, or and early (5 - 8 pm) or late (830 - 1130 pm) partial buy-out. Please contact the restaurant directly for more information including pricing and menus.

  • "Every dish we received was luke warm. I feel like the chefs were preparing large quantities of the food and just scooping out servings long as needed. The food comes out too fast so probably No cook to order. I asked for some hot food for the squid ink fettucini and the manager came by and tried to apologize but, i felt she thought the food was perfect. Which if it were hot i would say B+"

  • "Came down from the Bay Area for the theater and get together with friends. Had heard about Tar and Roses and wanted to try it. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent and shared by all. They allowed us to change the number in our party at the last minute and helped push through our orders so we could make curtain. Great night. Strongly recommend."

  • "I've been to Tar and Roses three times now... it has some good food (over-priced) and small... the service was really slow. It was our anniversary, our reservation was at 8:!5pm... they offered wine.. brought me my glass while my love suffered through a 205 minutre wait for his glass haha. we were sat at almost 9pm and we had requested a nice set up and table for the occasion... nothing which they really did... But the food is pretty good, wine was decent. Good spot, but not dying to go back anytime soon."

  • "So far this has been my wife and I's best restaurant experience. The food here is incredible (the best we've had in LA so far). The place is a little smaller than we'd expected, but the ambience, food and service totally made up for it. Besides, for the type of experience the restaurant delivers, the size is perfect. Definitely recommend anyone (local or visitor) make reservations for this place if you want excellent food and a great dining experience. It's Mediterranean-style cuisine (French, Italian and Spanish)."

  • "Man I love this place. The tar bar is the best dessert I've EVER HAD. The oxtail dumplings are eyes-roll-back-in-the-head good. Sometimes you can walk-in if there's just two of you, but if there's more, you'll need to make a rez. Expensive, but worth it."

No chef ever wants to be compared to another, but I was so reminded of Yotam Ottolenghi with the marvelous use of ingredients and complex flavors in the vegetable dishes, which were all excellent. The hamachi was to die for, as was the ricotta gnocchi. All incredibly delicious. What's more, the signature "Tar & Roses" wine was both very nice and reasonably priced. All in, a fine culinary night."

  • "The food was absolutely delicious- we had made a tapas/share plate from the specials and had ricotta gnocchi to start. Then had steak and baby carrots for main. It was all so delicious- the steak for 2 in particular was amazing. For dessert we had the Strawberry ricotta tart and the chocolate caramel slice- both were again absolutely delicious. Excellent wine and drinks list . Friendly, efficient and very helpful service. Loved sitting outdoors under the stars- the heaters made it very cosy too which was nice. We would highly recommend this restaurant- it is superb!"

  • "Eating here is almost like being a judge on Top Chef; you try some wonderful small plates of dishes that you've probably never seen before. The entrees are a bit more mainstream, but equally as good. The Oxtail Dumplings are very flavorful and should not be missed. Do also try the King Trumpet Mushrooms, yes you'll be having an egg at dinner but you'll understand why once you eat it. With the reasonable price of the food, the wine seems sharply overpriced, thus the only thing keeping it from being a 5 star review."

  • "Had a sashimi crude appetizer. Bland tasting, bad cut of fish and too thick. My friend had rib appetizer. Said it was great. We shared the snapper for two. It look like a large petrified fish when presented at the table. But once you get iver the initial shock it was pretty tasty. Not served with enough soba noodles. Had several sides. Potatoes had too much of some kingdom of creamy pink sauce. Would have been better without the pink stuff. The mushroom sides were just ok. Tiny tables for two. Not much space or privacy. Inches away from the next table. Overall - pretty good but not great."

  • "The food was delicious and the service was great. Sat in the back room, which is quieter. However, we couldn't figure out why they don't have the climate settled in the back room. They had the roof open, and it was much too cold. They closed it, but later opened it again, so it got cold again. Otherwise, it was a very nice evening overall."

  • "We had a very pleasant experience at Tar & Roses, but beware what you order. We thought it would be a great idea to order off Charcuterie, bruschetta and cheese off their chalk board and found it to be a big mistake. The cheese portions are small and the meat slices are paper thin and not very plentiful, especially for the price! Every thing was very good, just don't expect to fill up on one of these plates. The bruschetta was also very tasty, but it came as one big one, although there were three of us. We would have preferred three smaller ones as the bread was very tough and hard to cut and portion out. Overall, we thought the food was delicious but if we go back, we'll be ordering a little differently."

  • "Some of the best food I've ever had in Los Angeles! The swordfish was absolutely amazing and we were able to bring our own bottle of wine with a $20 corkage fee. The staff was excellent and we ran with their recommendations. Everything was delicious. A bit on the noisy side but that's only because it's the hottest restaurant on Santa Monica Blvd! We will be back. Tar & Roses is a MUST try."

  • "PHENOMENAL find in Santa Monica; Brought the family into town fow spring break and read some reviews. T&R seemed like an interesting concept and I couldn't be more pleased we found it. Bacon flavored popcorn!! Bruscheta with bacon jam!! They allow (encourage) you to create a cheese and appetizer board and my family thoughtit wasso good, they ordered a second. The bone marrow appetizer is wonderful and wonderfully presented for something you don't normally see on any menu. I had the duck breast and it was perfect. We had a party of 5, my wife and I, our 18 year old and 2 14 year old girls. Everyone raved, which I rarely get out of my eclectic family. T&R will become a mainstay for our west coast family visits!"

  • "There are no losers on the Tar and Roses menu. How do they pull it off? We try something new each time and fall in love with those choices. We debate which are our favorites and can't conclude. The only thing we can conclude is that this marvelous gem that takes it to a new level of sophistication and subtly is a true treasure. There's always a line so make a reservation. And BTW, unlike some hot spots, when you have a reservation at Tar and Roses, you actually get a table at the appointed time. Thank you Tar and Roses team for not greedily over-scheduling so that those with reservations stand for 30 minutes like other restaurants do. Bravo and well done! Can't wait to come back!"

  • "So much good food, but this place really shines. We were seated in the back where a back alley has been converted into a beautiful brick-exposed space. Cozy, intimate, romantic. We ordered various small plates, all of which were clean-tasting and lip smacking. Sea urchin/avocado on crostini, a skin-blackened mackerel crudo, squid ink fettucini with grape tomatoes and charred octopus (ridiculous), yellowtail collar in a ponzu sauce (stunner) and charred cauliflower with bread crumbs, pine nuts and anchovies. SU-PER-GOOD. Dessert is not my thing. I can never manage more than two bites, but here they are perfectly balanced between richness and sweetness. We had the figgy toffee pudding and affogato. Plates - licked clean."

  • "My parents were visiting LA, a perfect reason to finally try T&R ... It was really delicious food- interesting and inventive but not TOO crazy. Housemade charcuterie was phenom, the duck breast, the homachi crudo and seafood pot with curry broth were my favorites. And the desserts were insane!! The strawberry/ricotta crostada was delicate, fresh and slightly unexpected with some fresh herbs... and if you dig chocolate, the tar bar with salted caramel ice cream will not disappoint. Perfectly chocolately, creamy ganache- with a great hit of salt. Great service too - a great night."

  • "Oh my goodness, this was SOOOO YUMMY!! We ate out on the patio, it was a tad noisy, but certainly not crazy. Absolutely excellent service and a very knowledgeable waitress. We had small plates, vegetables to share and 2 big plates. EVERYTHING was delicious. SO flavorful and unique. Believe it or not, but the carrots were one of our favorite dishes. Duck and venison were the two big plates - everything was devoured. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!"

  • "Ever since being called out as one of the top new LA eateries, the place is packed. The food is still just as great, but the service and staffing levels have not changed and has made the experience beyond the food and company terrible. They have great servers and understandably, the economics of splitting tips further and costs of running the business may stand in the way and being a hotspot they may not need to in order to keep the place filled, but they are making the experience poor- too long to get seated even with a reservation, to long to get the basics- waiter, water, drink orders, food orders, etc. Ironically, they would turn tables faster and have a better experience by improving the waitstaff ability to serve."

  • "I can see why it's so difficult to get a reservation for T&R. The restaurant is a cozy size, if not a little bit crowded. We had to wait about 20 minutes after our reservation time to finally be seated, and that seemed to be the case for the other 10 - 15 people waiting to be seated. However, it was worth the wait, as the food was incredible. We came on the recommendation of a company chef, and he did not disappoint. This is definitely a place for budding foodies looking to be more adventurous for a night. Highly recommend and even considering booking another reservation weeks in advance."

  • "Great service by people who know their menu and work as a team to keep things moving with no bumps, no bustle. Chef focuses on quality rather than theory. Dishes combine locally-sourced, seasonal produce with high-quality ingredients from wherever they're best. (The vanilla and coffee, for example, were not raised in greenhouses in Culver City.) Outstanding food prep. Perfect, intact baby beets without a spec of grit -- cleaner than when I cook them at home. Portions were a little larger than expected. The wine list is select rather than comprehensive, with several very good options in the $50 range."

Each dish we tried was truly remarkable, from the gnocchi, octopus, snapper for 2, and desserts. The food is expertly prepared and the flavors pop. We dine out often and are thrilled to find a restaurant with something new and interesting. Our server, Jeff, was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and definitely not pushy.   • "We had a party of four that came here before the Cirque Du Soleil show at the Santa Monica Pier. The cheese and meat board is a must order, great selections and the server was full of great recommendations. We opted to order a few small dishes and shared and it was wonderful getting to try a few bites of everything. The lamb belly was awesome! After the show, we came back for wine and desserts at the bar area. Wow... don't miss out on the desserts! We will definitely come back again."
