A word from Tapeo 29
It was on our trip to Spain when we were introduced to the meaning of "Tapéo"; we were hopping between different Tapas bars every night; mingling and meeting different people from all walks of life; having great conversations and sharing life experiences with total strangers…
while having great "Tapas" that always came out at the right time to compliment yet another amazing glass of red Rioja…
It was then, it is now, and will always be about having fun, feeling good, and being surrounded by good…
That is what captured our hearts, and these are the memories that will stay with us forever…

We thought this looked cosy for
some time and finally tried it. Is it really possible to get so much wrong? The service was amateur, the tapas mediocre at best (my partner says I'm being too generous in that assessment). There are many more better restaurants to try, certainly for the money they charge."

The food was fair and wasn't as
authentic tasting as I hoped. The Chorizo al Vino was the best item on the menu. There were a lot of cheap short cuts for the price to portion size to quality ratio. The seating is kind of awkward, but can be intimate if you get the right seats. Thw wood work in there is beautiful. Just wished the food was as great. The owner and staff were all fantastic which made me wish the food was even better. I wanted this to be my new "spot." I'll eat there again if im in the neighborhood and in a pinch, but it isn't really worth a journey or an Open Table reservation. It didn't even seem to matter that I made one."

Arrived during the World Cup game
between the Netherlands and Costa Rica. The place was filled with cheering young people enjoying themselves. Game over, much quieter. Chorizos were the best of three tapas. Engaging manager/owner."

I'm very glad my friend
recommended Tapeo. The food was delicious. It arrived promptly, and hot. Moreover, in abundance large enough to share between five ladies without anyone feeling short changed. All dishes were well seasoned and cooked to the right temperature. The handcrafted cocktails were also delightful. The only thing amiss was the soda for the mixed drinks was flat. This small problem didn't dampen the otherwise impeccable dining experience. I would definitely recommend Tapeo, and plan to return myself."

I went with a group and we
happened to get their during the happy hour special (6-8). Tapas were $6, cocktails were $5, and beer was $4. The food was amazing! Some of my favorite tapas in the city - I highly recommend the chorizo and the patatas bravas! I am allergic to gluten and they were easy to accommodate my request. They have great tapas for the gluten free and for those that love gluten. It wasn't until the end of the meal that I realized they had an amazing gluten free beer on the menu - Estrella duara. The service was average but the food more than made up for it!!"

If you're looking for a romantic
night out or a fun night with friends this is the place to go. I went with a group of friends and we only ordered a bunch of tapas. All the tapas we ordered were great! We tried to ordered the steak tapas again, but they were all sold out. Make sure to order the steak tapas. The ceviche tapa, chorizo tapa, and the spanish meatballs were also great tapas. Hope you guys enjoy!"

I came here with a friend who was
in town. We shared several different tapas. The meatballs, bacon wrapped shrimp, and bruschetta were excellent. The salted cod was fine but lacked much punch. The ambiance is nice, rather loud depending on when you go. My only real complaint was that the servers were quite slow with drinks and we had to ask for them again because they had been forgotten. The food and pricing (at happy hour) definitely makes it worth coming back.... I'll give the service a second chance."

Absolutely fantastic service,
great atmosphere and... very tasty tapas."
Dined on 11/12/2013
The food was perfectly prepared.
Classic tapas and interesting innovative combinations. Attentive service. Will definitely return."

Have been here several times for
brunch and although I have a different server each time, it is always an outstanding experience. Great food, super friendly staff, and good ambience. Love this place!"

This was a perfect spot for me and
my girlfriends who are only able to get together a couple of times a year. One of us was late arriving but we weren't rushed at all. Food was good and plentiful. But the best as the unlimited Mimosas with brunch. What a great place. Will definitely go back!!!!!!"

I visit Tapeo 29 every Fall for
dinner when in NYC for business. Found it 4 years ago. Always outstanding food, drinks and service! Highly recommend this place."
Dined on 10/5/2013
Tapeo is a great find downtown for
those seeking an offbeat Tapas Bar and Restaurant. Food is great, i loved the chorizo. It has a hip feel, small and edgy. Classic old Spanish woodsy feel, with the bar at the center."

We made a reservation on OpenTable
but since they were so busy, they didn't receive the request. Not a problem at all :-) We were quickly seated despite the restaurat being packed. My only complaint was the lack of air condition. We were all dripping. The food was so darn good & the drinks refreshing that we got over our beads of sweat. Our waitress was super sweet!! We had two carafes of sangria, chorizo al vino (2 orders), skirt steak, pan con tomate, GARLIC shrimp (2 orders) and chicken skewers. For 4 of us...this was perfect!! We'll be back for sure!!"

-Drink was a little on the small
side but it was big compared to the size of the table we were given"

I was celebrating birthdays with
friends & we were looking for a fun/casual place with great food & cocktails where we could hear each other. Tapeo 29 was perfect. Each different small plate was delicious - especially the albondigas and the croquetas. Their special of the day was a curried shrimp served atop an avocado - the entire table raved. We also tried 2 different cheese plates and a variety of sauces. In fact we sampled so many items that our server brought us out complimentary savory and dessert dishes. The sangria and mojitos are the real thing - fresh, light and delicious. Did I mention that happy hour is until 8pm? We will definitely return - it is perfect even for a glass of wine and 1 small plate. Neighborhood gem."

Even though I had made a
reservation for Mother's Day brunch, all they had to offer us was was seating at the bar. So we left and went to Stanton Social which was very good."

This was a last minute find but
boy was it better than expected! The brunch service was great and the mimosas were fabulous! We will go back again!"

This is great neighborhood spot.
It's a quaint, no frills place that has GREAT food! I went for brunch with a few friends and everyone loved their meal. On top of it t I liked how they had a wide selection of daily specials, I ordered the whole wheat pancakes. Our waitress was also very nice, attentive and helpful."

Tapeo 29 is a very cozy little
restaurant. The mussels were fantastic. The drinks were good and interesting. The service was very good. Overall a very nice place. Would go back again."

Great food and ambiance. It was
loud and a little dark. Could've had more light. But, very authentic Spanish food"

Food, drinks and service were
outstanding. We will return next time we visit New York."

I first chose Tapeo 29 to take my
girlfriend on a special occasion (birthday or anniversary) and we absolutely loved it. Since then I returned twice (including last week) and found it absolutely amazing both times. The low lighting makes for a romantic scene, the sangria is great, the food is reasonably priced and, more importantly, incredibly delicious. The gambas al ajillo, bistec falda, seafood paella and the chorizo al sidra were all fantastic. This place seems very underrated as it rarely gets packed. The space is a bit tight and does not hold a lot of private tables for two, but this is definitely one of if not my very favorite spots for Tapas in NYC. Service was great as well (server's name was Joe)."

Attractive casual setting,
friendly service, and each plate we ordered was delicious."

I went with my boyfriend. We had a
groupon but I have been there twice without one. It was great. The restaurant is small. At first I did not like our table near the door but we were able to move to the bar when space opened up which was much better. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. The sangria is SO good. I prefer the white but the red is great too. We had dates with bacon and cheese, meatballs, steak, and seafood paella. Everything was delicious and I presently surprised by the meatballs - not dry at all. My favorite was the dates with bacon and cheese. I've ordered that everytime."
Dined on 2/16/2013
Food was fine, not bad, not great.
More of a bar than a restaurant."
Dined on 2/16/2013
Loved this place, great food and
decent portions. Would definitely go again."
Dined on 2/15/2013
Presentation of food was very nice
but dishes were too salty."
Dined on 1/12/2013
Good food especially the
beef-based dishes. My European friends definitely liked this place too!"
Dined on 11/25/2012
I had a groupon that I indicated I
would be using when I made the reservation. When I get there the waitress told us that I cannot use a groupon on Friday or Saturday nights, which it does not say any where on the groupon. I asked to speak to the manager and showed him the groupon and he reluctantly said we could use it. Then I was told that I would only be able to order off of the very limited happy hour menu. After I spoke to the manager again, he again reluctantly allowed us to order of the regular menu. Overall the food was okay, nothing special. The restaurant is really a bar with very small tables against the walls. Sangria tasted like pinesol cleaner."
Dined on 11/16/2012
The food was delicious with
generous portions, the drinks were strong and well mixed, (Best Caipirinha Ever!) The service was exemplary, and the experience overall was wonderful."
Dined on 11/8/2012
Tapeo 29 is a cute little spot
with enough candles and dim lighting to pass for a romantic destination. I went there with a date on a Saturday night and quickly realized it's an Applebee's in disguise. We attempted to use a Groupon and were informed that the three items that we wanted on the menu were not included. The deal specifically stated that it was good for ANY tapa up to $18 in value. The tables are tiny so they brought them out one at a time which didn't play well for the bland chicken which could have used a co star. The shrimp and steak were very good but not quite tasty enough to wash the taste of bait and switch out of our mouths. The waitress came to our table in tears because the owner had berated her. Romance. FAIL."
Dined on 10/13/2012
A positive first visit! The food
was very good. As a 'tapas' place, where you generally go with friends to share food, the portions were very adequated for sharing. The place is small with only a few tables and not much room to stand around the bar. We were fortunate to be there on a Thursday night when the place was only half way full. However I wonder what it would be like on a busy night..."
Dined on 10/9/2012
I expected the food to be much
better, it was just okay. The ambiance could've been romantic and cool, but the high-top tables didn't lend themselves well to intimate dinner conversation, and the table they gave us was right next to the kitchen, the register and the bar, so we just had staff rushing past us all night, or chatting next to us. Any other time would've been fine, but we wanted a romantic night out, and this didn't quite cut it. However, the people who worked there were all very nice, and the red Sangria was delicious and full of fresh fruit. If you do want to try this place out, I'd suggest going during their happy hour from 4-8 with half-priced drinks and $6 tapas. Pregame w/friends before dinner or a night out."

Thanks guys, we had a great time!!
It was really nice to chat to Isaac and thx for the food recommendations :)"
Dined on 9/8/2012
It was ok... Cool vibe, the food
was good but nothing special. The service was quick but a little too quick and the busboy kept lingering around to clear our plates. We arrived as the kitchen was closing so were severed very quickly but never followed up on. It's ok if you're in the area but I would not go out of my way to eat here again."
Dined on 9/2/2012
We had a few of the tapas and
really loved the chorizo and the bacalao. The others were only alright (we tried the meatballs and the calamari). We also did a pitcher of sangria and it was incredibly tart...to their credit, when I asked for a little simple syrup they were very gracious and went ahead and blended it in the pitcher. So, that was nice. Place was cute but a bit cramped. We used a Google offer and to be blunt, probably wouldn't go back there and pay full price for anything. Service was great. Our waiter made great recommendations and was really attentive, even when the place did fill up."
Dined on 8/23/2012
The happy hour specials can't be
beat. My friend and I took advantage of a few of the specials on the tapas menu, and each thing we tried was delicious. Plus, the sangria was completely refreshing. I'd certainly go back."
