Tapas ValenciaGood place!The food was great, but was a little variable. We liked the calamari so much that our group ordered it again in the same night, but the second order lacked flavor. The variety of the dishes allows for the restaurant to appeal to the full spectrum of pallets, from complex to simple. Three words: bacon-wrapped dates. Also - best sangria in Chicago.
The service is what really makes this place an experience. They're friendly and extremely informed. The attentiveness of everyone from the busboys to the servers to the hostess is exceptional. Servers reccommend pairings for food and drinks, and seem to know the menues - even the specials - forward and backwards. We had very different diners and we found something for each of them. We were really impressed with the fish the server recommended as it was very fresh and light. We also loved the goat cheese and especially the desserts! The almond cake with the caramel was divine. Our server was very accommodating and helpful, I would definitely recommend this place, it reminded me of my study abroad days in Spain! All the service was friendly and prompt and the food, of course, was delicious (as was the sangria). I like that there is a large variety of cold and hot tapas to choose from. Some restaurants only specialize in a few, but Tapas Valencia has a lot of choices and made each dish we ordered delicious. Tapas Valencia definitely knows how to deliver scrumptious, delectable plates of heaven! Myself and three other friends opted for the prix fix menu, which was a phenomenal assortment of everything, not to mention affordable for the quantity of food that you're receiveing. I would highly recommend this; especially the bacon wrapped dates which seem to melt in your mouth. This is a wonderful place for a late night meal before partying or for a small group dinner. Went with my parents to celebrate my birthday and we ordered enough to be able to share and everyone was able to eat their fill. The drinks are really good. One of my favorite places to go. Unfortunately, we ordered some bread and butter but it was accidently taken to the wrong table. When we asked our waitress how long it would be for the bread, she informed us of the accident and immediately we were given some bread. The serrano ham and manchego cheese app was very good. I also enjoyed my salmon and the patas bravas. The Tudela salad was very good. I especially enjoyed the dressing. The one issue was service. The waiter was not very attentive and really messed up the timing of our food. I was with a friend to celebrate her birthday and she ordered a paella, which is supposed to take 30 minutes to prepare. We ordered some appetizers and a salad to nosh on until her paella came. The problem is the paella came before the apps and the salad. So my friend had to let her paella get cold while she ate her salad. Love tapas as it allows you to have exactly that experience. Dates wrapped with bacon, grilled tilapia and olives were great. Good experience. Many restaurant venues have come and gone in this same location. Think it is a testament to this establishment that it has persevered. Overall, the experience was a breath of fresh air, which was desperately needed, as we have only been in Chicago for a few months and have had some. . .not-so-pleasant experiences at other locales. I would highly recommend the Talapia, Queso de Cabra, marinated olives, and the stuffed mushrooms. The location is perhaps the only downside and puts it a little out of the way and more of a destination in itself...which is perhaps why its never too busy. This might be a good thing if you don't want to deal with the crowds at some other tapas places. My family has a lot of different diet restrictions (low-carb, pescatarian, no pork, no apples, only fat free dairy). There were dishes for each of us, and some that we could all enjoy.
