A word from Taormina Sicilian Cuisine
From the simple to the exotic, the showcased daily selections of Antipasti Misti (before the meal) include Palermo Style Caponata, Marinated Sweet Shrimp and Baby Octopus and Artichokes. Featured meals include Seafood Risotto, Grilled Tuna, Grilled Lamb Chops "Palermo" and Veal "Siciliana." Taormina's specialty dish is Uni Pasta (sea urchin), a delicacy enjoyed in Japan and Italy. Italian espressos compliment Dolci (dessert) selections of Vanilla Gelato with Espresso, Homemade Baked Pannacotta and Tiramisu. Inspired by authentic Sicilian recipes from the kitchens of Southern Italy's seaside town of Taormina, Chef Akira Yamamoto pairs fresh pastas with the highest quality seafoods and meats. Unspoiled by heavy sauces, Sicilian-style pastas are dressed in pure, extra virgin olive oil. Fresh vegetables, lightly grilled fish, and lamb seasoned with herbs offer diners a healthy range of options.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Was forced to dine outside on a hot and humid night. Was left no choice, no options. Was never told on the phone, when we added a 5th diner that we would have to sit outside. But was told by the management we have to make a specific request to dine inside. Was told "take it or you can dine elsewhere". Assistant manager was no help and had plenty of attitude. So did the hostess. Dining outside is a very bad location with no a/c, lots of noise from buses, cars, trucks right next to where you sit."

  • "Memorable because the food- husband and I both had the tasting menu ($100&$70)- wonderful way to experience Taormina cuisine for first timers. Overall excellent especially the beef tenderloin but was disappointed at the crunchy texture of their funghi w/ foie gras risotto. The pea soup was surprising delicious. Memorable also because we were seated near the entrance and witnessed a " tiff" between the hostess and patron. Surprising that this was not handled more professionally. The tables are also very close to each other therefore can be not as romantic as one would desire."

  • "This restaurant does not know what is " Reservation ". I had booked at 18:30 because their system showed their available time as18:30 or 20:00. I arrived at 18:30, but she told that they had no table (but a small, confined one was free) . We waited 15 minutes, then she told " this table" and pointed the confined table. I will never be again."

  • "We ordered the lunch pasta specials. They come with an appetizer (in our case, a yummy fresh salad), a "chilled pea soup shooter", a regular portion of pasta, and a scoop of gelato. Amazing deal. I had the crab tagliatelle in a slightly spicy sauce (SO GOOD! pasta was perfectly al dente and crab tasted not-too-crabby if you know what I mean) and my husband had the salmon/mushroom cream sauce. Yum! Two kinds of freshly baked bread to start (always a good sign) and our server was kind and attentive. I wish I remembered her name."

  • "As others have noted, the pasta dishes are unbelievably fresh, the pasta is cooked perfectly, and the sauces are generously applied. We have a terrific meal."

  • "My wife and I very recently enjoyed dinner here; we could not choose between pastas so we ordered three (2 as an entree and one as a main). We shared them all. We have to say the pasta was one of the best we have ever consumed. Squid ink was amazing, truffle carbonara gorgeous, as was the pork bolognese - (a little surprise which was not actually on the menu!) We have traveled a bit around the world and we call ourselves foodies. This is clearly one of the finest restaurants in Hawaii."

  • "We came to Taormina on the last night of a week in Oahu on a friend's recommendation & we're not disappointed. Food quality, taste, presentation & options were great (we had 2 fussy teenagers), service very attentive & friendly but not intrusive. It was a fitting end to a great time on the island."

  • "We chose your restaurant for our last night in Waikiki after experiencing some wonderful meals all week long. What a way to end the week! The food and service were outstanding. We shared 2 appetisers between 4 of us and then 3 of the group had different pasta dishes and I had the chicken in a butter sauce with vegetables. All meals were beautiful. If you are looking for authentic Italian flavours this is the place to go in Waikiki."

  • "I have started to come to Taormina 5 years ago, and although the management has changed since, the quality of food stays the same and I am very happy every time I dine here. It's a shame to have to rebuild the relationship with people who work there again, as no one recognizes me anymore, but the service is not so bad. There are a few new Italian restaurants that opened up in Honolulu, but this restaurant will always be my first choice!"

  • "Many if the tables were crammed together but the restaurant accommodated our request for a private table & it was great. Husband loved the lasagna casserole. My squid ink frutti di mare was good but not the most flavorful I've ever had. Still -- a good experience! Too bad dinner parking cost $6+tip."

  • "Not your typical Italian fair. So if you are looking for average spaghetti and meatballs this is not the place for you. The dishes a great flair to them but may not be to everyones taste so you may want to check the menu on line. We found it very good."

  • "Our dinner was not memorable as it was a year ago. The food wasn't as tasty; duck breast was too rare; dessert choices weren't anything special so we just had gelatos. We probably won't dine there in the future. "

  • "We did not know what to expect when we entered the restaurant. We found the restaurant to have a great decor. Our table was ready for us when we told the front of our reservation. As we sat down, we were overwhelmed at first with all of the choices for food and wine. Given that, the wife decided to try their seafood squid ink pasta while I had one of their dinner sets. I had a Sicilian wine, and it went great with their steak which was almost as good as a steak from Ruth's Chris...just not as easy to cut... However for an Italian house, wonderful! The atmosphere was nostalgically Italian. Service was outstanding; however, I wish that I did not see the bottom of my water glass. This is definitely a place that deserves a return visit. Cheers."

  • "I went there because they were doing the kamaaina Special. it was very reasonable price. I thought the food will be less quality, but it was exact same and the service was excellent as usual. they are always consistent. "

  • "This was our first time at this restaurant and will not be the last. The service and food was great. The parking was great and close to the restaurant. The parking is free for lunch up to 3pm. After three it is $6 which is pretty good for Waikiki. "

  • "Made an Open Table reservation, gentlemen takes my name, the phone rings and forgets to seat us at a table. A lady welcomes us the place and proceeds to seat us outside when there was lots of tables available inside. The street noise was awful. Since we were seated outside, it almost seemed like they forgot about us there. We had to get up, go inside the restaurant and ask someone to take our order. We almost walked out but when the waiter came to take our order, she was pleasant and accommodating. The food is overrated. Uni pasta looks nothing like picture shown. They used fettuccine pasta for this dish and you can barely taste the Uni, the taste was over powered by olive oil instead. Although, everything else was delicious. "

  • "My wife and I dined at this terrific venue (on a relatively new shopping "square" - the Waikiki Beach Walk). The place has a trendy look and vibe. We ate outside enjoying the wonderful weather - though inside looks way cool. Food was fantastic. I had onaga fish which is like snapper. VERY nicely prepared (fileted, of course) - none of that overcooked tough stuff here. My wife had the vegetarian risotto - she's wary of these, sometimes getting nothing more than a heap of "fat rice." Not here. She loved it (doggy-bagged the leftovers and had it the next day cold!). The "overall" experience would have been outstanding if there'd been no crying baby and if our server could have been just a bit less rushed."

  • "Tried their $70 taste special. The antipasto sampler was very good. The squid ink pasta was different, w/ sea urchi was briny. The ahi was very good, smokey. The dessert sampler was very good, but small. My wifes pasta w/THREE small shrimp not very much flavor is rediculous!! Daughters pasta w/clams was small pasta portion but lots of clams. "

  • "A nice break from the crowded streets and so many noisy "C-level" places to dine in the area, this was a real find. We first dined at Taormina a few years ago, and have returned every time we've made our annual visit to Oahu. An interesting menu, Taormina shows how creative Italian cuisine can be. Looking forward to our next visit!"

  • "For the prices the food isn't as good as expected. My date had a grey goose martini for $9 which isn't that pricey for Waikiki but the wines by the glass were very expensive. The bread should have been heated but it was still tasty. I had the veggie risotto which was very tasty but the portion was a bit small for an entree. My date had the clams with linguine which he said was delicious but again nothing special. Going to continue to recommend Cafe Sistina for italian in Honolulu. Again, for these prices I expected the wait staff to be more attentive. We had to ask for a second round of drinks (hint, we may have had another one or dessert if the server had paid more attention to us). "

  • "I ordered the filet tenderloin which was cooked perfect at medium rare. My husband ordered the lambchops which he says were a little overcooked. He ordered them medium rare; however, he did not send them back (which he has no problem doing) because the chops were still very juicy. The grilled vegetables were very tasty. We liked that the seasoning was very simple yet the food was very flavorful. We will be going back because there are other items on the menu that we wish to experience."

  • "A small continental (Italian) restaurant in the heart of Waikiki. Casual outdoor dining (reminiscent of sidewalk restaurants in large European cities) with a nice interior for those who like to eat inside. Menu selections are varied as well as traditional. Even though small, the wine list is adequate satisfying discerning palates. Overall, the Taormina is a gem in Waikiki catering to the sophisticated diner."

  • "Both the food and the service are outstanding! This is one of my favorite restaurant in Honolulu. You can either go there for a light dining of nice salad and great pasta or for a full course dining, also casual or dressed up. For the first timers, the course menus feature the best of the menu."

  • "I love the lunch special menus especially Fruti di Mare. Bread could be better but it's ok. after meal one-scoop ice cream/gelato is always something to look forward to. When the ice cream was salted caramel, it was FANTASTIC! So, really happy with the food all the time. As far as service goes, it depends on the waiter/waitress. There are mainly Caucasian waiter/waitresses which is fine but this female waitress who has been there for a couple of month at least is not good. sassy and I wouldn't call it as a service. However, today's waiter was very very nice and everything he did was perfect. Sorry I don't recall his name but he could serve to any kind of people at luxury hotel."
