TaoMy Fav NYC Restaurant!Absolutely my favorite restaurant and I take out of town guests there as a treat. The staff is consistently wonderful and well informed ....the ambience is lovely and the food is usually excellent. This last time....my meal was a bit off and the bass was pounding and very loud. This has never happened before....so both issues surprised me6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBad serviceWe tought that the waiter must have told us that the amount of food that we ask was too much for us, because we have spent much more than we really need and did not eat even 1/3 of it.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat decor and good foodThe decor makes it a great place for a date or a group. The service is ok and can be better.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat placeDinner here was great.
Food is excellent (super fresh sashimi, delicious seabass in miso sauce).
Service is good.
Better book in advance but be ready to wait for your table for 20 minutes in the bar.
Recommend this place!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNot your every day Chinese food! The hostess seated up promptly on our arrival despite the fact that we were early. The restaurant was remarkably busy the whole time we were there....however, our server was attentive and personable and saw to our every need. The menu selection was excellent. The wine list had many good choices although a bit pricey in some spots. The menu has all the traditional favorites, sushi and sashimi, and some specials which truly were special. The food was served promptly and hot from the kitchen. Overall a very good evening even f the tab was a bit pricey.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingTolle, außergewöhnliche Location, hervorragendes Essen und coole Musik6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing dessertWe celebrated a special birthday lunch at Tao, ordered the Prix Fixe three course lunch. The first two courses tasted like the food you would get in the lunch special at your local Chinese take out for $25 less!
The chocolate mousse dessert however was amazing though, and the venue was very nice.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFastOur dinner at TAO was fast and good. Since they have lots of people waiting to get a table, the service is really fast. I even ate fast because O got into the frenzy. I would have enjoyed more if the pace was calmer.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMPricey, but still goodTao is a favorite spot for me. Their food is pricey, but still very good. HOWEVER, they could make the portions ever so slightly larger for the price. It is somewhat prohibitive. The atmosphere is wonderful. We ate before a show at 5:00, so it was not that crowded, however the hostess bunched all the diners together, which made it louder than it needed to be. All in all, still worth going. Save room for desert!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really love this place,We really love this place, food, service, bar, prices - everything! The ONLY thing that we would like to comment is that it is very cold in the restaurant - takes away some of the positive experience in general. Regards!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service butGreat food and service but they could change the music or lower the sound which was too noise6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMclassicervery cosy ambitious restaurant, good food! We are coming here for years!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMy only complaint is thatMy only complaint is that the three courses come too fast without giving you the opportunity to take your time and enjoy them more. The pad Thai is a very big portion so be warned!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMbest meal so farhands down the best food we have had so far on this trip to nyc. enjoyed the lobster eggrolls as appetizer. am a vegeterian who does not eat dairy. so it can be challenging to find good meals while traveling. LOVED my entree-- salmon cooked to perfection with the BEST udon noodles. may not sound delectable but closed my eyes throughout meal to savor the flavor. chef prepared it in what tasted like a miso-soy-ginger sauce that was to die for. teenage daughter ordered dragon roll sushi. also raved about it. three days later, and my daughter and i are still thinking about that meal.. Tao set the bar high. can see why its so popular. btw, our waiter (didn't get his name but listed as 121 PONO on receipt) was outstanding too.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Experience at Tao NYCI enjoyed the dining experience at Tao very much. The ambiance was very trendy. This restaurant is a hot spot in NYC. It is the second time dining there and didn't regret it. The lobster sushi was delicious and so were the pork dumplings. The Kung Pao chicken was also a success. The service was just perfect . I will definitely go back again.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AM21st birthdayI went for my 21st birthday. My mom and I ordered the Chilean sea bass and we haven't stopped talking about it since. AMAZING!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent experienceFor our anniversary each year, my wife and I try to find a restaurant that does small plates, so we can have a little bit of a lot of different things. Tao was a perfect choice for this style of dining! We had three rounds of small plates and were able to try the following: garlic green bean tempura, sweet onion tempura, chili-glazed pork potstickers, shrimp tempura, peking duck spring rolls, and mini Thai crab cakes. All five were excellent - it is hard to pick a standout, but I would have to say the garlic green bean tempura and the crab cakes won, with the potstickers coming in a hard second. We had heard that Tao could be loud, but we were seated on the second floor (and thus above the speakers), so we found the level of noise fine.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMLots of interesting dishesLots of interesting dishes to try. All the food ordered was good5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatRecommended by a friend. This place is outstanding if you want some asiatic food with some cosmopolite attitude.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat placeThis was my second time visiting Tao and the food, drinks and service was great. However, this restaurant is really pricey so keep that in mind.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMTAO:Good for Special OccasionsThe food and service were excellent. Order a number of small plates and dine family style. The group had the lobster dish and the filet mignon that you cook at your table. The restaurant was crowded so expect a more energetic, rather then quiet ambiance. The decor is outstanding!!.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA little loudThe service was moderate, but I think that's because they're so busy. The food was outstanding. We came here for a 10th wedding anniversary. There is nothing intimate about the environment, because it is entirely too loud. If the music was a few notches lower, it would have been perfect. I would come back, but not for an intimate dinner.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ExperienceTao was gorgeous restaurant with outstanding Asian cuisine. I can't wait to go back and try their other dishes!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always have a great eveningWe always have a great evening when we visit Tao. There is always a great feel to the place, helped by the live DJ in the background. Food was excellent, as was our server - Mary, who was both helpful with our choices of dishes(we liked too many!), very efficient and charming.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ambianceThe food and the ambiance great. I strongly recommend it.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMTao is TopsTao live up to my highest expectations. The appetizers were oustanding and had something for everyone. The Kobe beef was indescribably good. The ambiance was great. The bartenders exceedingly competant and friendly.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredibleThe food at Tao is just amazing. There are so many choices to choose from and every item tastes great. I love the ambiance. There is a huge buda with a koi pond in the restaurant that adds to the vibes of the restaurant.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, the food was excellent. As always, the food was excellent. The sugar crusted donuts with 3 dipping sauces is always the highlight of the evening. Although the service was a bit slow, our waiter went the extra mile and included birthday candles in celebration of my daughter's 22nd birthday -- without being asked to do so.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service! This was my second visit to Tao in NYC. The food was fantastic and the service was great! We did have a bit of a wait despite our reservation and it was a little loud for talking with others in my party. But overall another great experience!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, "serving" too fastExcellent food, but as an European I like to enjoy my meal and have a nice evening without feeling the pressure of having to eat quickly as the next group is waiting. Mayby that's called "good service" in the U.S, but for me it feels way too pushy when the different courses are served immediately after eachother. I really like too enjoy my diner, especially when it's so good as at TAO's.
In a nutshell; definitely go there for diner: good ambiance, excellent food, but don't be surprised when you're standing outside the restaurant again within 1 1/2 hour....5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI LOVE the whole entire vibeI LOVE the whole entire vibe at Tao, my fiancé and I have been there MANY times and every time is a blast, food is amazing! I even had my surprise 30th in the private VIP section! Can't wait to go back!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Place - almost a gemTao has a hip ambience, a cool vibe, a very tasty menu, and a fine sake selection that all together makes for a very enjoyable experience, if not a bit manufactured. This is a good place to go with a medium sized group who enjoy fine food, but its not the next big foodie find. Loved the starters and the sake.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGREAT food & Theresa Caputo to bootThis is an absolutely gorgeous restaurant. The food is outstanding!!! Our service was exceptional. Then, when we came downstairs we saw Theresa Caputo waiting for a table with her girlfriends. This is definitely the place to go for AWESOME asian fare when you are in Manhattan.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMNice atmosphere and enjoyable placeReally nice restaurant beautufull interior design and great staff.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience all around.Great experience all around. Just waited too long for a table , 1:15hrs5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMTao was amazing!!I was in NYC to celebrate my birthday at Tao!! I loved the trendy atmosphere, delicous food and excellent service!! My personal favorites were the Lychee martini, Crispy coconut shrimp, Miso glazed Chilean Sea bass and the giant fortune cookie for dessert!! I would recommend Tao for a special occasion, romantic date or hot night out in the city!! Make sure you take a picture with the huge Buddah on the 1st level!!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFun Fun FunWe loved the food. Service was great. Make great drinks.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebration! We went to Tao's to celebrate the graduation of our son. We had a wonderful time. Our party agreed that we would love to return to Tao for another delicious meal. Our waiter was polite, knowlegeable and helpful. They honored our reservation at the exact time. Looking forward to going again.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMTrendy PlaceTook my girlfriend for our anniversary. The sushi was pretty good and we go another noodle entree. Pricing wasn't too bad with 2 glasses of wine 2 orders of sushi and an order of Pad Thai everything came out to around $105. Not bad at all for a trendy place. The restaurant has a very nice ambient environment. It had a really good vibe. Overall it was a great experience5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food an ambienceWe waited 30min for our reserved table, but than everything was really nice. The ambience is special, the service was friendly and the food was nice!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMI love itIve been in tao las vegas and new york and it is the best! I definetly come back again a million times!!! Love it5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome VibeAtmosphere is vibrant, hip music, loud due to two story ceiling. Food very good but pricey.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMeven w/reservations, we had to wait20 minute wait past our reservation time. sat in bar. too loud to talk. no server came over to take our cocktail order. dinner was lovely. food was delicious.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMChristopherA very good restaurant and the food was outstanding. Also nice to only visit the bars on the both levels.
Don't forget too book the table.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWork function funTypically I go to Tao for the bar scene after work, but I had my first business lunch here the other day, It was fun and vibrant, and I was impressed with the restaurant's ability to do both nightlife and lunch so well. The only down side is it is loud, so sometimes it is hard to hear across the table.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous!I have been to Tao several times and it never seems to disappoint me in any way. Went with a group of six and everyone was impressed. The lychee martini's are outstanding. The chilean sea bass on skewers are a must have. The ambience is so great.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA very good eveningNice drinks, had to wait for 25 min even though we had a reservation, cool place, good food, fair prices - trendy place.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Mother's Day DinnerThe kitchen screwed up our order by not processing it. We waited 40 minutes before complaining. Management accommodated us accordingly and the diner turned out to be lovely. Best meal I had all year. Everything was so delicious. :-)5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFun With FriendsWe enjoy this restaurant, because the ambience is unique in New York. It is an interesting place to take friends, especially out-of-towners. There is an excellent prix-fixe 3-course lunch, but also other delicious options, including small plates. The service is very attentive, friendly and professional. The ambience in particular makes it a standout.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLOUD, but delicious! Not the place to propose marriage, but definitely a hot spot for Asian food. Energy abounds. We waited about five minutes beyond our reservation time. The place was slammed. We were seated on the second level overlooking the great statue of Buddha. Our server wasn't very helpful, but we managed to order a fabulous selection. My husband's choice of sea bass was delightful. I opted for a vegetarian medley of dishes.
The wine list is limited; conversation close to impossible, but our overall experience was a good one. We will be back.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
