Very much enjoyed our meal at Tao. Would definitely go back again. Only drawback were:- Booked a table for two, was seated upstairs. Tables are too close together, you feel like you are having a meal with the people next to you. We were waiting 45 mins for our table. Much too long to wait for your reserved table.

I thought Tao was excellent, I really enjoyed it, the food and drinks were lovely and I enjoyed drinks in the bar beforehand. the only bad point was a foreign family sitting beside us who had two kids wrestling on the couch which was annoying but this wasn't the restaurants fault, the music and venue was excellent and I enjoyed my meal will definately be going back

This restaurant was beautifully decorated. I give it low marks for the fact that it is way too crowded. People of all ages were constantly squeezing by my table to access the bathroom or get closer to the giant Buddha. My date was hit by several people (mostly children) rudely hurrying by her. I did not appreciate that fact. I also did not appreciate the table behind us constantly taking pictures with their flash on. Very annoying if you are trying to relax. I am too mellow for this place. Also, the food was mediocre. The sea bass was excellent. The shrimp was average. The lo mein was poor. To me, this results in a grade of mediocre -- especially because the food made me sick when I got home.

I was very much looking forward to my birthday dinner at Tao. I was notified when I confirmed my reservation that we should be prompt and if we happen to be running 15 minutes, we will have to be patient with the maitre d' to get a table. We arrived before our 6:30 pm reservation and received a pager as we waited for our table. We weren't seated until nearly 7 pm...I was very disappointed in the start to the evening. In addition, the host/hostess staff were not customer service oriented nor particularly friendly. The food was great, fun ambiance but extremely crowded and very noisy.

They seemed to be in a rush to rotate tables. I have been there a few times for lunch and at the bar, but my first for dinner. We barely sat down when they asked us for our drinks and appetizers. The appetizers came in 5 mins (the drinks hadn't come by then). The entrees arrived 10 mins later but the plates wern't changed (then they got us the plates). We had familt from London and wanted to catch up with them, but were out of that place in flat 45 mins. That too me was very annoying..I understand Friday night, but I haven't seen such a rush to get rid of the table. I have had much better experiences at Nobu and Megu (will consider them in the same league or better so drawing a comparison for your benefit).

We showed up late for our reservation, but they were very accomodating for how busy it was. We had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated, but it didn't seem that long because the place was packed and great for people watching/socializing. The food was fantastic and the service was above par. We were in a hurry to catch a show, and our waiter did a great job of getting everything out in a hurry, esp for how busy it was. Great atmosphere inside, will go back and hopefully be able to spend more time there the next time we're in town!

the only thing what we didn't like is that we were waiting such a long time for our table, what's the sence of making a reservation for 8.45pm and that you're getting your table at 9.45pm so an hour waiting...! that was very dissapointing. hope you can change that...then it would be perfect!

Tao is an outstanding restaurant, IF you plan to eat early and can get a table in a timely fashion. The waits here can be crowded and painful. The restaurant is in an old, brick movie theater and is very open and airy inside with a Buddha and koi pond at one end. The specialty drinks are quite good and the pan-asian menu is sufficiently "Americanized" to offer something for everyone. This place is good for larger groups, and our recent party of 8 loved it. Next time you're looking for a fun and unique restaurant in NYC, try Tao!
