The food is always great at Tao and I appreciate having a place to go that uses organic ingredients. Plus the cozy and casual cafe ambiance is delightful. I love eating here and I will be back! With that said, it was disappointing to bring out-of-town family only to have their top 2 dessert choices (out of 4 total options) sold out with no substitutions. Furthermore, an after dinner espresso was undrinkable. Tao wasn't at the top of its game on a night that we wanted to share a favorite place with visitors.

I've had good experiences in the past at Tao with good food and a nice outdoor patio. This was an off night. We arrived at 8 on a Friday night and they were out of most dishes, and the service was indifferent. I was disappointed, but will still be back, because it's been much better in past visits.

Got a groupon. Sounded interesting. Wanting to try different restaurants. Especially healthy, organic food restaurants. Even rode our bikes to make it a really healthy outing. The food was great. Even though we set out for a healthy experience, it turned into an urban, fun adventure. We were there during happy hour, so our drinks were discounted. Ate outside next to a raised garden. Will definitely go back.

very small cramped area, had to wait through four people placing and paying for take out orders, only to be told they did not have a reservation for us. a table opened and they told us to take that one after it was going to be cleared off. totally defeated the purpose of using open table and I am sure I did not collect my points. how interesting that you chose my review nickname to be happy..

  • No table ready when we arrived

We had a 6 o'clock reservation for four and there was no table ready when we arrived. We were told it would probably "clear up" so not to worry. This place has very limited seating and you order at the counter, so people get aggressive about getting a table. One woman was giving us the stink eye the whole time because she thought we hadn't ordered yet and were staking out tables. Needless to say, it did not clear up and the guy finally cleared a table for us in the balcony of the store area. It was weird, but we appreciated his effort. I would recommend calling before to remind them you have a reservation. Or better yet, just get your food to go.

I was sadly unimpressed with the food at the restaurant. It was simply bland. I would have had better luck preparing my own food. Sad. I had such high hopes. The smoothie was grainy and uninteresting. I won't be returning.

Great find in the north end of Uptown. Great, nutritious food. I had the veggie chili and kale salad combo. Delicious! Plus a Hot Toddy Tea that was perfect to cut the Minnesota cold! I would recommend!

This was my first visit to Tao Natural Foods. The place is fairly small, but the have ample outdoor seating for good weather. It's not full service, but the staff was friendly and accommodating. They have multiple side options to accompany their sandwiches...and best of all...they have gluten-free substitutions available. The food came fairly quickly and was delicious. The gluten-free bread had a nice sweetness to it that wasn't overpowering and the bread held together (not always common with gluten-free). They also have a cute shop with supplements, herbals and organic offerings. I will be returning!

Beware! Wait staff is rude and incompetent! We walked in with a reservation and the girl just kind of looked at us and said, "Uh, ok, pick a seat." When I ordered a glass of wine, the girl who poured it barely gave me any so I had to go back in and ask for a regular 5 oz. glass pour. On top of that, they advised they were out of turkey that night when my finace had wanted to order the reuben. So, he instead had to have it with tofu. We also asked for thousand island salad dressing in place of the vinagrette when ordering. When the girl brought out our food, they had the vinagrette on the salad...NOT what we ordered. When it was sent back, the girl said the chef told her to tell us that it was thousand island dressing.

I had been warned by people's reviews on other sites. All were right. Walked in, got ignored at the door for 5 minutes by the 6 employees, very interested in chatting with one another. We finally made our way to the counter. It was fairly busy, tables were filling up so I mentioned we had a reservation. The guy at the register then spent 2 minutes arguing with me about how they don't take reservations: hippie: "We don't take reservations that I know of" me: "We have a reservation" hippie: "Who did you talk to" me: "I made it on Open Table" MY FAVORITE PART - turns to his coworker and says, "Brett, do we take reservations?" REALLY? Are you saying I am lying? For the same food and superior service I will go to French Meadow or Good Earth.

Like the title says, the food here is fresh, simple, and tasty. In this era of chains and overpriced gastro this and that, a place like this is more than a cafe, it's a community service. Also, healthy kids' menu is a plus.

Tao is one of our favorites, but it's not for everyone. Very healthy food--really good at reasonable prices. Small, order-at-counter type of place; food is delivered to your table. So if you want a fancy place with some ambience, this isn't it. Outdoor tables are close to a busy street--good people watching. Great smooties!

Definitely a great uptown find! So happy we went. The food was delicious! They even have on site parking, so going there is a breeze. The only downfall is the staff. If you're not a 'hipster' they are totally uninterested in you.

No one there to greet or ask if you have a reservation. No one cares if you have a reservation. No table is reserved for someone with an open table reservation. You walk in, grab a table, line up and wait to order with the rest of the crowd. Then you take a number and wait to have the food brought to your table. Food is good, but they are waaay out of there league for a dning experience. Oh...the people are very nice!

Food was fabulous!!! we were actually the first reservation they ever took thru Open Table... they hadn't started table service yet, so we had to order at the counter, which wasn't a problem. Since we were the only Reservation we would have expected to have the best table... instead are table was right at the door and since it was about -2 degrees that night, every time the door opened it was quite unpleasant. Other than that I would definitely go again! Use Open Table and request a table away from the door.
