Diner Reviews
  • "We had a nice quick meal at the Tantric Indian Bistro before going to the theatre, which was conveniently close by. The Mango chicken was very good. We didn't like the lamb choyala appetizer as much. The service was very good."

  • "We arrived with sufficient time to get to theatre. after we sat down , we did not order drinks so the waiter did not return for 20 minutes. We had to get up and ask for service which thereafter was good and attentive. The mild selections were tasteless but others were wonderful."

  • "The food is good, the location convenient (right in Boston) and the staff very attentive. I was seated immediately with my reservation. The decor was pleasing and interesting. However, the room could have been a little more cozy and warm, and a little bit less like a cafeteria, perhaps by adding some interesting dividers and extending the carpet to the bar area for starters... Also, it would be helpful to more clearly mark on the menu which foods are vegan so you wouldn't have to ask 20 questions about the ingredients of each dish. Or, better still, the restaurant should go all vegan :)"

  • "I have been to Tantric a few times over the years, it's not convenient in the least since I hate paying for parking, but when I am in the city I make a point to come here for dinner. My last visit I came with my mother because we were seeing a show. Let's just say my mom is someone is who is the least adventurous when it comes to eating anything foreign. She let me order since I had a better idea what she may like than her trying to comprehend what the food was. Needless to say she is now also a fan. We had a fantastic meal and again I was extremely, delighted with the service. They even held onto our left overs until we came back from the show, when I tried to tip extra for this he wouldn't take it. Hands down the best Indian in Boston!"

  • "If you're looking for a curry in the theater district this place will fit the bill. The food was fine - nothing special. The service was attentive and helpful. We would probably go back if in the area but I wouldn't make a special trip."

  • "We had a very satisfying dining experience and made it to the theater on time. Food was excellent and service efficient. Nan was hot and great texture. Portions were just right for sharing a few communal main dishes. Very good addition to the neighbourhood."

  • "Tantric is a useful place to know about if you're in the theater district. It may be the best restaurant in the area. But it's also, from my own experience, the best Indian restaurant in the entire Boston area. The food is delicious, perfectly--and consistently--prepared, the portions are generous, and the service is thoughtful and helpful. It's a great place."

  • "The Food was good and so was the service. We were not constantly pestered about ordering food which is welcomed these days. I liked the Ambience and noise was ok. Parking was $22 flat rate after 6pm, if I remember correctly. I don't know if they validate parking. Other parking garages are also close. Tantric is in the heart of Boston, close to many Clubs, Close to Loews Theatre if you are interested in catching a movie."

  • "The food is truly delicious and the best Indian cuisine we have had in Boston. The service is friendly and professional. The setting is pretty and comfortable. We are delighted this restaurant is in walking distance of our apartment, and we are sure theater goers are very happy it is located conveniently."

  • "We've really missed Tantric since it closed for renovations. Now that it's finally reopened, we can breathe a sigh of relief. It's certainly one of the best Indian restaurants in the area and if you're in the theater district and like Indian food, it's a real oasis. Everything is beautifully prepared and in generous portions. I especially like the chicken chettinad, with its hint of cinnamon, and the tandoori chicken is about as delicious and perfectly cooked as it can get. The naan is absolutely fresh and light. And even the rice is of the highest quality. Welcome back!"

  • "This was an ideal spot to access both theaters and parking. Ambiance is attractive with generally plenty of space to keep noise level down. We were seated at the back against the wall however and could hear our neighbors' conversation very easily. Service was excellent. We eat Indian food a lot and this compares favorably without knocking it out of the park. I would certainly go there again any time we are theater bound."

  • "We went here after a performance at the Wang theatre. Very good indian food, nice wine list."

  • "We came here before a friday night show accross the street. Atmosphere was kind of quiet and awkward, they could use some more music or energy or something. Asked server for a non-spicey recommendation but it was actually very spicy. Mojitos were a bit too sweet. We only went here because we were craving indian and it was close to the show we were going to. I probably would not go here again."

  • "While I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Tantric, the service left quite a bit to be desired. The restaurant was far from full, but it still took about 10 minutes to be greeted at the door. Once seated, I was not approached to order a drink or anything else until my guest arrived 15 minutes later. Once the meal was complete, my guest and I waited about another 20 minutes before one of us got up, found someone and requested the check. The vindaloo was superb and the kulcha was cooked to perfection. With food that delicious and service that poor, I can't really say whether or not I will return for anything other than the Sunday buffet."

  • "The food is excellent and the menu has a wide selection. If you ask for something to be made spicy it will be! Like many Indian restaurants the options for vegetarians are extensive, perfect for a group which is mixed vegetarian & omnivore. Service is excellent - attentive and prompt, making it a great choice for a dinner before a show as well as after one. Location is an easy walk to Boston Theater District venues."

  • "Nice scene of the street. Food was good. Waiter was good. But the wait staff should not be hanging out in the main dining room chatting and carrying on when there are guests dining. Waiter should replace eating utensils after eating appetizers; don't put used ones back on nice clean plates for the main meal."

  • "We had a group of 6 for dinner. We were seated immediately and got immediate attention for our drink orders. The server was fantastic, he provided us with many helpful suggestions for drinks, appetizer and entree orders. We ordered a wide variety of items and each was very delicious. We also chose a wide variety of spice level from very mild to very spicy. We had a great time and everything was served as we wanted it. I was very impressed with our waiter."

  • "I've been here and reviewed these guys a number of times. Each time I go just gets better and better! Two things you absolutely HAVE to try. Gobi Manchurian. Request it well done and extra crispy and your mind will be blown by the sheer flavor explosion! Mango Clove martini. Ridiculous combo that is just perfect!"

  • "We finally realized it...Tantric is the place we have been to the most number of times in Boston, so that must mean something! I think they do have the best Indian food I have had in the United States. There are so many options, you can always try something different, and it truly is ALL good. The location is very convenient for a pre or post theater meal. The seating is fairly spacious as far as Boston restaurants go, and the service has always been very friendly. The prices are also the most reasonable for a quality restaurant, of any Boston restaurant (entrees are $15-18). I'm sure it won't be long before we return..."

  • "All the obligatory Indian dishes were on the menu plus some gems. The flatbread was outstanding. We tried to order one of the two dinners for two on the menu but were told they were not available weekends. Wish the menu just said so, would have saved the clunkiness. The waitress was sweet and very responsive. We were seated in a small room in the back of the restaurant away from the main room which was busy and fairly crowded. Request a table in the back room if you can."

  • "WE had a great dinner and waiter was friendly and not intrusive."

  • "Delicious! We like spicy, but the "medium" here is pretty intense...ask them to amp it up more if you dare. We chose this place mostly because it was the only table for 8 I could find to reserve near the theaters after the matinee. Now I'm glad we didn't get in somewhere else. It was nice and quiet here, great food, great wine, great service, great night! Try the cauliflower appetizer!"

  • "Came here for Thanksgiving dinner. The decor and ambiance was very nice and fitting. The service was very good and food was delicious. The portions were good sized for the price. I would definitely comeback here next time I'm in Boston."

  • "I had the shrimp jhalfrezi and it was very good. This is a dish I have also had at several other restaurants. For Indian food, the price range is on the high side. Also, I tried ordering sorbet for dessert and they did not have any of the three kinds listed on the menu."

  • "I've been to Tantric multiple times and keep going back. It's a really good Indian restaurant."

  • "I got the chicken korma. It was more like a greasy curry. I'm used to a nutty, creamy flavor with bits of raisin. The papadums were good."

  • "It's great to find a reasonably priced ethnic restaurant in an area full of expensive business-type places. My companion was a vegetarian who thought the food and breads were outstanding. I really enjoyed my chicken dish. Our waitress was very helpful and charming."

  • "We had a great experience, a fantastic waiter backed up by a host of other folks who attended to water, clearing dishes and delivering food. We were enjoying the music, and we asked the waiter about it. He informed me it was a Bollywood sound track, and since I was enjoying it, wrote down the name of the film and gave me tips on listening to other Bollywood music. We tried a new veggie dish, Lauri Kofta, it was amazing. And drinks were great too. We've been here a number of times, for dinner before a show, or for lunch, and always enjoy, but this time seemed even better."

  • "Third visit to Tantric- the service is excellent even when crowded to the max on a 'theater' night. There's something about the atmosphere that immediately makes you feel comfortable - it has a great vibe - feels like a 'happy' place - the wait staff always seem to be smiling and genuinely seem pleased to serve you. Food is consistently good -always tastes exceptionally fresh. The Indian cusine is a level above most in my opinion, the dishes extremely rich & flavorful but not overly spiced. Lamb Tiki Masala was divine, Tandoori Chicken exceptionally moist and tender. Best nan bread and sweet lassi I've found yet. The quality of food and the more-than-reasonable prices has rapidly made this one of my favorite restaurants in Boston."

  • "The restaurant was "fine"... The food was good, although nothing that I would absolutely rave about. The Dosa was tasty. The waiter was very helpful and friendly, but not hovering, and that was nice. A good dinner before the ballet/show."

  • "Having been to India a bunch of times, the food at Tantric is absolutely genuine. There are a lot of options from different areas of India, so everyone can find something that they will like. They will also adjust the 'heat' of the spices if there is someone in your party who doesn't like hot spices - yet not so much that they ruin the dish. The wait staff was excellent - timely and attentive."

  • "If you enjoy Indian food and don't want to travel to Cambridge, Tantric is a great choice. The menu offered a number of traditional Indian dishes, and had an extensive vegetarian selection. The service is very good - attentive but not hovering."

  • "My daughter and I had dinner there Saturday night before the show at Wang Theater. We had to wait a few minutes for our table (we had a reservation) but everything else ran smoothly and our server made sure we were out in time for the show. The food was excellent and very tasty. We'll be back!"

  • "Very authentic Indian food in Theater district. Nice to be able to have some of the currys more or less spicy. Lamb Samosas were full of meat. Lots of lovely vegetarian choices. Would go again."
