Diner Reviews
  • "Something isn't right anymore. They were out of ingredients for drinks from the bar (including basil!) Food dishes were good, but I was a bit underwhelmed overall. Last time we dined there, things were much better. Maybe just a bad night?"

  • "Tanti Luce 221 is where my husband and I go when we want to treat ourselves and celebrate special occasions. The 221 margarita is, by far, our favorite drink on the menu (and, yes we are margarita snobs), but that is not to say there aren't other fabulous beverages to be had. There is something special for each type of cocktail drinker and the wine list is fantastic. We always get a new appetizer every time we go and we have not been disappointed. Likewise with the entrees. The fillet melts in your mouth, the polenta is incredible, and the catch of the day, whatever that happens to be, is always prepared perfectly. I can't wait to try something new next time. The service is always wonderful and the atmosphere is elegant and romantic."

  • "Went on a Thursday night and hardly anyone was there. They were out of 3 or 4 of their entrees and there weren't that many to begin with. I was very disappointed with the lack of entree options and the fact we were not told of items they were out of when we first sat down, especially considering the cost of entrees"

  • "We had great experience! This time discovered buffalo ribs...! Excellent wine selection. Very friendly and ready to accommodate your needs. Thank you!!!"

  • "We eat there quite often, and it will continue to be one of our favorites!"

  • "Since discovering this restaurant a year ago, it is our restaurant of choice for a fine meal. The food is always cooked perfectly, service is attentive but not annoying, and it is quiet enough for good conversation. Five stars from me!!!"

  • "Food was very good. Service was also very good. Could be a little less "hovering" over us. Kind of quiet for a Tuesday night. Almost cavernous at 6:00 PM. No bread available - big mistake. Kind of expensive."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "The buffalo short ribs were literally melting in our mouths."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "Fritto misto very good. I am sure there are some who like a paella drowned in cumin as opposed to saffron, I was not one of them. Put next to an obviously smoking internal fireplace (nice and warm) but we had to tell the wait person to do something about it (simple fix). STALE tasteless bread (attention to little things missing here). They had a large party and were obviously having difficulty handling the group and everyone else."

  • "We have dined at Tanti Luce many times but the last couple of times have been a little puzzling. They seem to be out of several items,,,,4 or 5 entrees? It is Restaurant Week and we were the only ones in the dining room. The food was excellent and service was very good but being the only ones in the restaurant was, seemingly, too quiet. Leaves a lot of questions with us."

  • "Nice place just off the beaten path. The buffalo short ribs were quite good, the meat just fell off the bones as it should and the truffle mashed potatoes were superb. My wife had the linguini with clams and they were still in the shells so not from a can - she said it was really good too. We just shared the sorbet sampler after and it also was great for a light dessert. The portions served were just right - not overly large like at some places but enough that we did not leave feeling hungry still. Will probably return here sometime as we did enjoy it very much."

  • "Everything I expected and more! Paella was great! Will daydream about filet for some time to come!"

  • "My husband brought me here for Valentines Day and it was wonderful! He had ordered flowers delivered to the table and they were there when we arrived. The atmosphere was romantic with a table by the fireplace and just right lighting. The service was great and the food and wine even better. He had the catch of the day and I had the quail with duck cilantro sausage and we loved them both and kept sampling the other's. Desert was decadent chocolate cake with melty middle. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect evening and the prices weren't so high so that we feel we could frequent it other than special occasions. Definately recommend this restaurant!"

  • "The food was delicious and the portions just right. A special spot - casual but romantic."

  • "The food was pretty good but the staff was definitely not enough for the people and the staff there was passive or not attentive."

  • "First time we ate our dinner in the bar. It was great, except a little noisy. The table was by the fire and the service was top notch. Nice to have an alternative depending on your needs for that evening. Love it. Thanks."

  • "We are Santa Fe locals and just tried Tanti Luce 221 for the first time last week. Excellent service, beautiful space, warm and cozy, classically Santa Fe, and excellent food. The menu, including cocktails, is inventive and the dishes well-preoared. Definitely give it a try."

  • "We had dinner here on our last night in Santa Fe and weren't disappointed. The atmosphere and ambiance were perfect. Fireplaces, beautiful decor, etc. The food was great, too. I especially enjoyed the warm chocolate cake desert; it was worth wait. The only thing that could be improved on is the fact that the wait staff was tentative or didn't seem expert. I would eat here again."

  • "We were a large group and at Tanti Luce was able to accommodate us . Everyone enjoyed their meals. Our Waiter seemed a little overwhelmed, but the backup servers / food runners got all of the food out in a timely Manner."

  • "Overall very good experience. Food blows away most other over priced restaurants in Santa Fe. Portions are respectable, presentation nice."

  • "Enjoyed our recent experience. Great service - interesting appetizers, salads and main courses and the food was nice to look at. Dessert menu was not as exciting, but the simple offerings were well executed."

  • "We had a wonderful time there for a friend's birthday. Great food and elegant decor."
    Dined on 12/12/2013
  • "The evening we were there Tanti Luce was "fine" not great. For the price of each selection fine may not be enough. But for a special occasion it was romantic enough so that the dinner felt lovely. Lots of competition in town - maybe it was an off night."
    Dined on 9/21/2013
  • "Everything was great. Chef Kerpon is one of our ongoing favorites. Buffalo short ribs, quail both were superb. Prices are very good for what you get. Lovely Eberle cab. with the entrees."

  • "We went out to celebrate Thanksgiving, but were disappointed with the results. The turkey meal @ $49 was minimal - good portion of turkey (although from a turkey roll, not a full bird), VERY small portion of dressing, and a small portion of mashed potatoes, and NO GRAVY on the dressing or potatoes. The pumpkin bisque starter was tasteless. I had to ask for salt & pepper (none on the table) and add a lot to get any flavor from it. Pumpkin pie dessert was barely okay - more nutmeg than pumpkin flavor. Service (Anthony is an excellent waiter), ambiance, and wine list as always were great. This was definitely not up to the quality of previous visits, and now not a place we will return to for holiday meals."

  • "Fast becoming one of our favorite places. Food is always innovative and well prepared. Would like to have more varied specials as the menu is small but interesting. The fireplace is the focal point on these chilly nights but the outdoor dining 3 seasons is charming."

  • "Th e food and service is always well beyond what you get in other local establishments. The specials showcase the chefs talents. The waiter was efficient, friendly and attentive."

  • "Wanted to try this restaurant after a friend recommended it and the menu looked amazing. We were not disappointed! Food was perfectly cooked and paired, attractively plated. A feast for all senses. Highly recommend! I know we will be back for more."

  • "Everyone in our party (of 4) had a very nice experience here. Joshua, our server was very attentive. The food was delicious and perfectly portioned. The wood burning fire in the 2 fireplaces created a great relaxing ambiance."

  • "Ordered the "Duck Two Ways" and the breast portion was "off" - with a weird, spongy texture and extremely gamey flavor. Shared with others at the table who agreed that it tasted unsafe to eat. Explained this to our server and recommended that the chef sample the meat to understand what we were referring to. The item was subsequently omitted from our bill but with no feedback from either the server or chef. This is a pet peeve of mine - such an obvious missed opportunity to make a good customer service move. (In which case I would be much more forgiving in this review.) Not willing to try this restaurant again."

  • "There have been at least 4 terriffic restaurants in this nice space on Shelby St. starting with the Periscope, then Amonti, Julians and now Tanti Luce 221. Tanti Luce is the best since the Periscope and that puts it at the top. Easily a top ten."

  • "We were highly impressed with the wine menu. There was a unique cocktail list that looked great, although we didn't have one. The menu was a perfect size, not too overwhelming. The specials were amazing and service was spectacular."

  • "Lovely room. Convenient location - right downtown on quiet Shelby street. Street parking after 6. Excellent quality and interesting specials. Everyone at the table enjoyed their choices and service was attentive without being overbearing. Excellent choice for eclectic menu and well made food without airs. Will definitely return often."

  • "In contrast to some of the other reviewers, we had excellent service. Our waiter was attentive, helpful, and friendly. We asked to be seated in the small outdoor porch area just off the original restaurant. It was perfect - intimate, quiet, comfortable. We ordered the trout, pork tenderloin and the paella. Afterwards our general response was that the food was fine, but not particlarly memorable. The drink titles are fun and the drinks are good, but again we weren't totally impressed. We'd go back, but more for the overall ambience than for the food."

  • "From being shown our table to our first drink arriving was 25 minutes. It was pretty slow service all evening. One water glass was sticky and I asked that it be replaced, it never was. That said, her filet and my pork loin were very well prepared. The beet salads were imaginative, perhaps too much dressing but it was not a cloying dressing. We sat upstairs on the roof top and enjoyed the warm sunset over Santa Fe and dined into the evening. Did I mention that we were not rushed??? My way of emphasizing the slow service. Our pleasant server was apologetic. I noticed later in the evening that the sequined gilded hostess starting helping out, probably enlisted into action, too late for us and weirdly after the main dinner rush had diminished."
