  • Private Party Facilities: The private dining area is located on the second floor in the form of a modern lounge equipped with a full bar. We also feature a rooftop deck (weather permitting) with an outdoor bar where guests can enjoy downtown city views. The modern lounge and rooftop deck are connected by a floor-to-ceiling retractable window system, which can be utilized in a variety of ways.
    We can host cocktail receptions up to 140 and seated dinners up to 36 in the private dining areas.

Tanta is dedicated to sharing the flavors and culture of Peru with Chicago, serving authentic Peruvian dishes and beverages in an approachable, fun and casual downtown setting. We provide service that is casual yet knowledgeable, genuine and attentive, utilizing locally sourced products and vendors that are sensitive to sustainable farming and fishing.

Tanta has two Chef’s Tables that each seat up to 10 people. These tables are located in our main dining room in between our open kitchen and ceviche bar which allows you and your guests to experience our chefs creating Peruvian cuisine while you dine.

The menu, created by Acurio and Tanta Chicago Chef Jesus Delgado, takes diners on a voyage through Peru via its food. From the Pacific Ocean, through the Andes, to the desert, to the Amazon, Tanta celebrates the diverse landscape and ethnicities that make up Peru’s culture.

  • "The interior is very cool and modern and the Peruvian food is a combination of South American, Japanese, and Spanish and was incredible. We had a sampler of ceviche, each was better than the last. Our server, David, was excellent and helped us select pretty much the entire meal and every bite was just fantastic. Wish we had had enough room for dessert!"

Tried the pisco sour - was beautifully made and while not to my exact liking I'm sure most will like was just a tad too strong for me but was glad I tried it, would love to go back with a few friends and try out the street festival sharing plate - service all around an A+ !"

  • "Our waiter was very knowledgable; however he never came over to see if we received all our food (which we did not). We also asked to be moved to a circular table so it would be easier to talk as there was a group of us. We were told the circular tables are for 6+ groups; however during our stay a group of 4 was seated at one of these tables. He also went around the table to get drink orders and skipped the person in the middle then walked away. Overall knowledgable guy but needs to work on waiter etiquette."

  • "This was our second time at Tanta. The first time we sat at the chef's table. This time we sat at a regular table and ordered off the menu. Everything was wonderful, but I did like it better when the chef just brought out items with no decisions on our part. One of the best cocktails I've ever had is the El Chingon. Yum! On a negative note, the music was so loud there was no way to hear our friends sitting across from us. We asked them to turn down the volume which they finally did ( fyi no one at the table was old). I don't know why all the new trendy places insist on cranking up the music so conversation is impossible. Is that because everyone just wants to text and no one wants to talk. Very annoying."

The staff is excellent and despite the almost overwhelming crowd of mainly millennium generation customers very attentive. The only downside is almost too much noise for comfortable dining. We will be making a return visit."

  • "We met at Tanta with some old friends while visiting Chicago and were looking for something different than pizza or steaks. Well - we certainly got that ! We started with two of the cebiches which were good, not great. At $18 each, very small portions. We also had the "Pulpo" (octopus) & it was perfect. The main course was Adobo de Res (beef cheeks in adobo sauce) and the Pescado Frito (whole fried fish). Both were outstanding. The beef cheeks were rich and flavorful and like butter in the mouth. They sound a bit scary but they aren't - try them. The whole fish was a very lightly breaded so if you're not big on fried stuff, this is a nice treatment. Plus they filet it for you. One neg-the place was VERY loud. Fun...but loud."

  • " An indifferent greeting, plus seating at the bar (to await the third member of our party), and bored service at the bar had us worried that a place working this hard to be hip and trendy would continue to act all evening as though they were doing us a favor to allow us to dine there. But once we were seated in the dining section, it all turned around, largely due to the efforts of a positive and attentive waitress who helped guide us to some really tasty dishes. Recommended are octopus and scallop appetizers (really sort of Peruvian/sushi fusion), corn cake (more like a corn pudding), beef cheeks with corn & cilantro pipian, and lamb shank served with terrific couscous. Both of the meat dishes were fork tender and delicious."

I travel regularly world wide and live in the heart of Europe, however I find Chicagos restaurants to be some of the best in the world. Tanta has to be one of Chicagos 'Top Spots' at the moment. Downside....s . Very noisy even with carpet stuck to the underside of the tables, maybe one could think it adds to the ambience. Unacceptable is the 15 -20 minutes wait for the valet to deliver our car after leaving our table. Why do these drivers always have to adjust mirrors, seat backs and play around with the 'buttons'"

  • "My husband and I stopped here on our Anniversary trip to Chicago. The foils was amazing. The waiter was very helpful in suggesting items to try we were unfamiliar with. The Lomo Saltado was amazing (one of our favorite Peruvian dishes). The cornbread was also delicious. We split the pie de limon for dessert. It was ver good. Very much like a key lime pie in a martini glass. We will be coming back on our next trip to Chicago without our daughter (not really suited for kids). Thank you for an amazing meal!"

  • "Although the food is fantastic, the service is lacking. It took almost 2 hours after being seated to start getting food. Obviously, there was a problem in the kitchen. However, the waitstaff is not perfect either. For a new restaurant with so many small plates and different options they do a terrible job advising a table on the appropriate amount of food. Not only did our table have about 3-4 times too much food but we noticed all the tables surrounding us were the same at the end of their meal as well. I will mention again that everything was delicious, just be prepared for a long night."

The flavors are sharp and crisp and you feel very satisfied but not "Thanksgivingy" upon finishing. We really enjoyed the flavors of the ceviches, trying several. I have had what purports to be Peruvian food in a couple other US cities and Tanta compares more than favorably. Combining the tasty, well prepared small plates with the comparatively unique drink menu and vibrant atmosphere and you have a recipe for a great Friday/Saturday night out. We will certainly be back as Tanta is well deserving of Chi Mag's #3 spot on best new for 2014!"

  • "Business colleagues (we live in Wisconsin) recommended I dine at Tanta while I was in Chicago for Sting's new play, The Last Ship. My friends are from Bolivia so they know what to expect in "fantastic" South American cuisine. The food was beyond my expectations. Fresh, interesting, colorful, delicious, unique, with excellent presentation. I asked, through OpenTable, that I be seated where a lone female diner would feel comfortable. They seated me at the dining bar (like sitting at a sushi bar) and it was so fun! I talked to the staff while they prepared fresh appetizers. My waiter was amazing, attentive and knowledgeable. It is unbelievable! Go there!!!"

  • "Every dish we had was full of flavor with delicious, savory spices. The octopus was out of this world! It was perfectly charred and very well seasoned. We had a tuna/avocado/tamarind ceviche that was super fresh and tasty. We also looooved the corn bread, it was a nice surprise. It came in a small cast iron casserole and had a bean or corn mixture at the bottom and some delicious mushroom in the bread. I must also mention the Peruvian corn varieties that appeared in various dishes, they were excellent. Lastly, as expected, the pisco sours were delightful! I'll definitely return!"

  • "I was late for my reservation and this didn't phase them as we were seated within minutes. Our waiter was engaging and on request gave us a brief overview of the concept. He was very helpful navigating the menu as well and his choices fit perfectly our palate. The food combinations were remarkably fresh and the tastes were outstanding. Every dish exceeded the previous. We tend to eat Tapas style and these dishes fit that well. The scallop with smoked meat sounded crazy but was superb. So good in fact we ordered another. Highly recommended by this foodie."
