Diner Reviews
  • "This is our favorite restaurant, but the first time we enjoyed the upstairs terrace. Significantly quieter than downstairs, but the service was excellent as usual. The food was overall excellent as usual, but we were a bit disappointed in the pork shoulder/pipian..... changed a bit and not as flavorful in our opinion, and the ceviche was needing more.... ceviche..... but very flavorful. Still our favorite."

  • "This is my second time going and both times the food was delicious. The atmosphere is great and it's the type of place we'll go to over and over again."

  • "The food was delicious and imaginative, the service was superb (a very charming, attentive waiter), but we were next to table of very loud folk. We wished the tables were a bit farther apart."

  • "Even though we requested a quiet table, such a thing must not exist. It was too noisy to converse with my companion across a small table. The food is good but not a pleasant experience."

  • "Came with a group of 6 and tried all the margaritas and some infused tequilas and it was so good! The food was outstanding!!! The cheese dip appetizer with chorizo is a must!! Will be back!!"

  • "Great service! Great recommendations and was always checking up on us. Food was delicious and our group of 6 had a great night! Only disappointment; not being upstairs on the patio. Before making a reservation online, we called to see if we could get a spot upstairs outside as we had out of town guests to entertain. I was told we could ask for that on our notes, but on our confirmation call we weren't told that wouldn't be accommodated due to a private party that evening. If we had known, we would have waited to come another evening. Inside was loud, stuffy and really warm. Please make sure to tell those wanting a certain area that they won't have that area ahead of time. Otherwise, thanks for the great service and food."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Tamayo. The food was good, though a bit on the pricey side. Since it was my wife's birthday it was good to splurge a bit. We had a table in the back that was quiet. I can see that the tables in the main part of the dining area might be somewhat noisy. The service was very good. Overall a great dining experience."

  • "After driving through crazy traffic issues, and arriving late, the staff couldn't have been more understanding. We had a bit of a time crunch to get to our next event. The server and kitchen met our needs and was able to get us out the door with time to spare for the lecture we were attending. We can always count on a great experience at Tamayo!"

  • "Start with the guacamole for an appetizer. The halibut is an excellent choice for an entree."

  • "Fantastic dining experience for my wife and I. Great service and very helpful with questions we had about the food. Perfect place for a special date and a before show dinner. Pleasantly surprised on the high quality and unique mexican dishes. Will be back again!"

  • "We went for an early dinner with two toddlers, and were very comfortable in one of the large crescent booths (good for trapping children). The service was excellent, and the atmosphere as well. The server we had was very polite, entertaining, very knowledgeable of the food and provided good recommendations. The appetizers and dessert were excellent, but the main course was not as good as I would have expected for the price."

  • "The food was beautifully presented, but pricy by the time you add the chips, drils and salad. It no longer becomes a frequent eating place for me. There are too many others with better values."

  • "Our brunch at Tamayo Restaurant was wonderful. The food was unique and delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. My family and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "My fiancé and I had to be in Denver on Saturday morning and decided to try brunch at Tamayo, since we had been for dinner and loved it. We had the most amazing service, our servers name was Aldo! The brunch is a bargain, you can eat until your heart is content, while trying small plates of whatever interests you on the Brunch menu. I have already recommended brunch at Tamayo to many people and we will back, soon, I hope!!"

  • "The food, the service, and the atmosphere is one of my favorites."

  • "Tamayo has a very nice menu with some well-presented dishes. The mole is particularly good. I did not like the bus service. There were two issues. First, the busers intrusively butted in to clear plates and other items while people were still eating at the table. They attempted to take all of our plates while the eldest person in our party was still eating. This is restaurant 101. Second, someone reached around me and under my arm to take my drink before I was finished with it. If I return, I will shoo all the busers away until we're ready for plates to be cleared."

  • "My date and I frequent downtown Denver and always enjoy our experiences. First impression upon sitting down was how noisy it was. If you prefer not to speak to your date during dinner this would be an optimal place to take them. I on the other hand, look forward to grown up conversation when I have a kid free evening. We started with the Bacon Guacamole which was just guacamole with really no notable bacon flavor, just a few pieces on top perhaps for garnish. They have a good selection of Tequilas and the drinks were good. Service was acceptable. I had the Pork Carnitas which was good, but my date's Chicken Enchiladas were just average. Overall I would not return for dinner but maybe perhaps a quick Tequila or margarita at the bar."

  • "The food was great, we were a bit early but were still accommodated. Our server was on point and the food was delicious. I love the atmosphere, the food, the drinks, location, and the staff. I wish I could eat here EVRYDAY!"

  • "meal was surprising - great for the money, I thought. Ordered the soup/sandwich combo which actually turned out to be a soup/half-sandwich/salad combo. More than I could handle but all better than good. Service was excellent and happy to bring me just a pot of hot water to go with the tea I carry around with me."

  • "arrived early before reservation on Friday evening but checked in and then had a drink at the bar, after time of reservation passed and hadn't been contacted went back to hostess to learn she had not entered us as appearing for (and waiting for a table). Got a table upstairs, and windows were opened (mid-March) and despite table next to us asking to close the window because of the cold, the window remained open through the meal (we kept our jackets on to eat). Food was good, not great (ceviche app, chicken enchiladas and tenderloin tacos), and I prefer the food at De Corazon. Our waitress was good, but for the open window issue."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "The restaurant is very noisy. The food was cold. The waiter was somewhat gruff. We were not offered drink refills until the meal was almost eaten. It was a busy Saturday night, but I expected a better meal and experience none-the-less."

  • "Our book club decided to meet at Tamayo this month and it was so worth it. From the beginning to the end, everything was over the top. The service was wonderful, the food to die for and we were able to review our book and have a wonderful conversation without feeling like we couldn't hear. When we got up to leave, we realized the place was really busy and yet we never felt like we even knew it. The waitstaff was excellent without hovering. I will be back for a date night with my significant other. Thank you so much."

  • "Great restaurant, awesome food. Ask to be seated downstairs, the upstairs dining area isn't nearly as nice."

  • "The ambience was great. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The staff was excellent. There is a high level of energy. The guacamole was excellent and well worth ordering. It comes with a side of green and red salsa which was delicious. The portion was very generous compared to most restaurants that serve guacamole. The margaritas were very good. We were a little disappointed in the meal in that we had. We ordered a chicken mole and while the flavor was very good, the chicken was overcooked and there wasn't enough sauce. The shrimp in our other dish was also overcooked but there was a generous portion of mole pipian sauce which was very good. Both dishes came with tortillas, beans and rice which tasted homemade."

  • "Great Restaurant, delicious food and awesome service. I love being in Downtown Denver and the rooftop seating was so nice."

  • "We made early reservations because of the great happy hour menu. Our plan was to order many different happy hour items and make a dinner out of sampling many things. When you click on the Happy Hour Menu on the Tamayo website, it does NOT say only available in the bar. The bar was completely full and we were seated in the restaurant. We decided to stay anyway even though they would not accommodate us with the happy hour menu. My glass of wine was very sparse for the price, and our food was pretty much luke warm when it arrived. Overall, it was not a great experience."

  • "We arrived to find the annual mole festival--4 different moles with your choice o's shrimp, chicken, beef, pork or vegetables. We visit Denver several times a year and always enjoy Tamayo but this was a special treat. We had a aMesico City mole with shrimp and an Oxacean mole with pulled pork. Both were delicious. The calamari appetizer with blood orange sauce is outstanding. This is I believe Richard Sandival's first restaurant and continues to shine."

  • "Reliably good food and service. Glad the mole festival has been extended."

  • "Service was very good but the food was ordinary; the enchiladas were lukewarm, lacking in flavor and over priced."
    Dined on 3/5/2014
  • "All of the small plates were amazing and perfect to split for two. My favorites were the huevos rancheros and the eggs Benedict small plates. And do t miss the French toast which is really a dessert as the final dish."

  • "possibly the best brunch I have been to in several years! Fantastic brunch, service and drinks!"

  • "When I spend over $280 for 6 people for dinner, I expect the food to be exquisite and the service to be top-of-the-line. We received neither at Tamayo's. We ordered the bacon guacamole and queso for the table. Guac was A+. The queso, not so much. It was stringy and thick but was lacked flavor. It was served in a small cooking pan and after 5 minutes was brown on the bottom, inedible, and stuck to the pan. I ordered the chicken abodyo (sp?). The chicken was so overcooked that it was borderline inedible. Everyone else had at least one complaint with their entree so I was not alone in my disappointment with the main courses. Our best decision was to order the pitcher of sangria - all 6 of us had at least one glass and many had two."
