Diner Reviews
  • "I celebrated by birthday here. The server picked up on that and surprised us with a birthday treat at the end of our meal. I've eaten here numerous times and always have a great dining experience."

  • "Looking for authentic Mexican - found it! Amazing mole, pared fresh salsa and guacamole sides. Every one at our table was thrilled with their choice. We had the guacamole sampler as a starter - not to be missed. Service was fabulous. We ate on the rooftop terrace and it just added to the perfect meal! We were concerned about rain earlier in the evening and we're pleased to see it was partially covered. Wonderful atmosphere. Just in town for a conference, but would definitely revisit if in town in the future."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised to find that our fairly well-behaved 3-year-old enjoyed her experience here so much; Tamayo was just great for her. We always enjoy the wonderful food when we visit the area."

  • "The habanero sauce for the Guacamole Sampler was fantastic. As always some of the best margaritas in town."

  • "The food was very good, especially the mahi mahi. Service was a little slow when it came to our waiter but the rest of the staff was very prompt and friendly. It's a nice place to eat on a Saturday night as it's fun and energetic. I highly recommend the rooftop over the downstairs because the noise is a little less and the fresh air is nice. Will definitely be back again."

  • "I really have done Tamayo more for lunch than dinner because it can end up getting expensive with drinks and everything but had a great dinner there recently. They really have a unique offering compared to many of the other Mexican options in town."

  • "the mahi mahi tacos are really good and the guac is good as ever"

  • "We went here for the 4th of July... and it was AMAZING! The rooftop bar gave us great views of three different firework displays! The food was super delicious and the sangria was delicious. The only complaint was that the service was a bit slow, but other than that it was a great experience."

  • "Killer service. Good food. Definitely will be back for 35$ all you can eat and drink. Posole was the highlight foodwise."

  • "If I decide to pay over $100 for 2, then I'll dine at a quality restaurant. We did each have a couple of drinks, but I also expected tasty cuisine to be enjoyed in a quaint environment. Big disappointment!! The value did not come close to equaling the price we paid."

  • "The food was pretty good and the boys helping our main waiter were quite nice and expedient. But our waiter was incredibly slow. I looked at other reviews and this seems to be a problem at the local Sandoval restaurants. This is too bad because the food is quite good, but its hard to enjoy when you are being ignored. However, I understand that we were just a party of two so the waiter would probably benefit from paying more attention to larger parties. I would recommend going to this place on a weekday or for lunch but not for dinner if you want to get good service. But regardless of the service, the food was really good. We had the steak tacos and the shrimp enchiladas, both quite nice. We might give this place another shot on a Tuesday :)"

  • "First time dining at Tamayo - would go back in a heartbeat. Restaurant staff were all friendly and very attentive. Had the opportunity to meet the GM, Miranda, it became quickly apparent that she knows the importance of customer service and relationship building. Food was very good, drinks were perfect. Johnny knows how to make a margarita ! If you're looking for a hot spot with great Mexican food, check out Tamayo....SOON!"

  • "Excellent food and service--freindly people and the food was very tasty. Unique flavorful dishes and the food just melts in your mouth. The patio was way too noisy for conversation so we moved downstairs and that was better."

  • "My husband and I went to Tamayo to celebrate our anniversary. The food was excellent, and we had fun tackling a pitcher of Sangria (which, heads up, is way too big for 2 people, but is still worth it even though you won't drink all of it). We also tried a new coffee drink which was interesting but not to our taste, and the waiter was great about bringing us another coffee we liked much better. We had a nice time here, and were glad we chose this restaurant."

  • "We went to Tamayo for brunch and it was amazing. Tamayo came highly recommended. I was worried that the kids wouldn't like much on the menu, but there were a lot of plates that they were willing to try, and they loved all of them. They must have had a dozen of the pan dulce plates between the three of them. The format of the brunch was great... small plates instead of a buffet. It gives you the chance to try a lot of things, then get more of what you like and don't worry about the rest. To be clear, though, we liked everything. Some of my favorites were the tacos (brisket and chicken), the mahi mahi "a la talla" and the ceviche, the squash blossom, and the huevos rancheros. One of the best brunches in town. Will surely be back!"

  • "We did the bottomless brunch and drinks and enjoyed every dish we had as well as some amazing mimosas and margaritas. Definitely recommend!"

  • "Literally I there's something magical in the Chicken Adobada. It should be labeled Chicken Aphrodisiac because I was getting so heated during dinner... WOW! Plus the margaritas here are incomparable. Best mexican place in Denver. Just perfect. "

  • "Truly authentic Mexican flavors that are clean and precise. Much better than those smothered Americanize dishes at other so called Mexican restaurants. "

  • "If you are a vegetarian this is definitely not the restaurant for you. There is one vegetarian item on the menu, but if you don't like mushrooms then it is not for you. The restaurant was completely unwilling to adapt any of the menu items. For instance, how hard would it have been to simply make cheese enchiladas? When we asked about this, we were told "they can't do this". We went here at the request of friends who are not vegetarians. It is so rare that we go to any restaurant and don't find a good vegetarian option."

  • "Had a great meal and prompt service. Will dine there again!"

  • "We are frequent visitors and fans -- but our Saturday dinner was a BIG disappointment. The noise level in the restaurant is at stadium level -- especially the upstairs deck. The ## of large parties with very loud guests made the environment feel more like TGIF than Tamayo. "

  • "Our party of 6 had an excellent meal with friendly, attentive service. Menu vas varied and and unique. A very good meal was had by all. The margaritas were delicious. Steak kabobs , corn soup, and camerones were adelight."

  • "Food was delicious - we started with the tamal sampler and had the la tampiqueña and chipotle camarones for our main courses. Many delicious and unique flavors. I enjoyed it because it was different enough from the food that I grew up with that I wasn't comparing/disappointed. We ordered the tamayo margaritas, of which were a little sweet/syrupy tasting for my liking - the chile piquin salted rim was an excellent addition, though. Service was friendly and attentive until the end game. It appeared our server was slammed and it took nearly 30 minutes to get our bill and check out."

  • "This mexican food restaurant is way better than food served in Mexico itself. That says it all...."

  • "My husband and I shared calamari; it was tough. We also shared the salad; overdressed. We both got fish dishes; overpriced for what was presented. Mine was accompanied with asparagus; was hard to decipher if there was any on the plate. Disappointed. Great roof top patio, views and staff."

  • "12:30 on a Sunday, all the help kept saying "Good Morning". They offer an all-you-can-eat brunch, but only if the entire table orders that. The waitress then explained that she would get us started with an Ala Carte menu and then keep bringing different dishes until we were full and that it might be a better deal. Brought the first round of dishes (which were all excellent) and then proceeded to ignore us for the next 45 minutes! I asked for the check and she seemed shocked that we had had enough. Perhaps on a different day (they didn't seem packed), service would have been better and then it would have been great."

  • "Went for a pre-theatre meal with only 45 minutes to eat. Ordered two salads, a calamari appetizer, and the carnitas. All came out quickly, delicious, and we were out of there, delighted with our "quickie" meal. Service was excellent!"

  • "It had been a while since we had eaten at Tamayo. It lived up to our memories as an excellent restaurant with innovative flavors and presentations. We had a great, after opera meal to finish off our day."

  • "We sat in the bar area as we arrived 30 minutes early due to the access to Tamayo being so easy. The service in the bar was great. When we were seated for dinner the server, RJ, made great recommendations for the main course that was spectacular (Carne Asada with a citrus marinade). A desert of fresh doughnuts were recommended and were spectacular! Was a great experience in all aspects- would definitely recommend. "

  • "I had a reservation, traffic delayed me. They gave away my table. We sat upstairs in the bar area where it was loud. Food was NOT good. Margarita's were too sour. Wouldn't bother going back. The only good thing about this restaurant is the location."

  • "for the money is not very good not your traditional Mexican food."

  • "Really enjoyed our first time at Tamayo. Service was great. Food recommendations by our server were superb. Food had a similar feel to La Sandia at Park Meadows Mall (makes sense since this was a Richard Sandoval restaurant). Tortilla soup was fantastic, as were the au-gratin mexican style potatoes. "

  • "We had made a reservation a few days in advance so were extremely dissappointed when they sat the two of us upstairs, off of the main dining area, in a drafty rooftop space on a cold evening, at a table for 4. There were plenty of tables in the main dining area so I don't know if it was because we had made our reservation through Opentable or what. I don't generally make reservations well in advance to be sat in an overflow area. It really affected our overall experience. We hadn't eaten here in a few years so were expecting a better experience. Our food was good and so was the service, but couldn't get over the ambiance so were anxious to leave. "
