A word from Tamashii - Sushi and Spoons
Tamashii at its core is distinctive, different, daring, fun, and evolutionary. Featuring sustainably sourced, farm to table and local flavors, our menu includes a sushi and spoon "tasting" bar, full kitchen menu (beef, pork, duck, seafood, more).

The cuisine focuses on the "soul" or Tamashii of the ingredients. With house developed flavors such as our own dashi, which embarks on a journey of the fifth flavor or Umami. Our goal is to provide the highest level of service and create a dining experience.

We offer a full bar menu which includes some of the best wines, craft beers, sake, and premium spirits.

  • My husband and I made reservations

My husband and I made reservations for two at Tamashii for Valentine's Day. When we arrived, the hostess politely told us that our table was not ready and that they were running behind. Since it was Valentine's day, we kind of figured it would be crowded and it didn't bother us. We waited 10 minutes till someone took our drink order. But, we also tried to take into consideration that there was one bartender and she looked frustrated and also behind on orders. When we were seated, we ordered the spoons and 3 maki rolls to share. Everything was delicious! Especially the spoons! There's not much seating But I say our overall experience was wonderful! Even though the night started off a bit slow, we enjoyed it and will be going back!

We arrived for our reservation the restaurant had no record of the open table reservation. It was very embarrasing. Looks like I will not be utilizing open table again. Restaurant needs time to mature. Service is slow. Not the waitresses fault. Probably would not recommend at this time.

Fantastic, innovative cuisine. There is a large variety of sushi on the menu and I love the spoons...the Hawaiian poke and Japonaise poke are fabulous. As an added note, the Japonaise poke spoon paired wonderfully with the Angry Orchard Apple Ginger hard cider. This was my second time dining there and I will definitely be back again.

Great Food and great service. Definitely recommend going here. Loved the sushi and the volcano shrimp (very spicy though). Everything from the sushi, our service, even the water in chilled jars was amazing.

  • We tried several of the rolls

We tried several of the rolls & some of the spoons. We agreed the spoons were our favorite part & will try more of them on our next visit. The fish was very fresh & the menu is inventive & fun. Will definitely return. Only complaint is that the parking lot is pretty small. We couldn't find a place to park at 7:30 at night.

  • Best Sushi in Wilmington!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 10/20/2012
Tamashii is the most unique restaurant! It is Wilmington's first "Spoons Bar" where the freshest of fish, vegetables, herbs and sauces are combined in a spoon ready to enjoy. The sushi is fabulous. Very fresh and flavorful. Not a sushi fan? Tamashii also offers an Izakaya menu (cooked Japanese bar food). The setting is elegant with table cloths and linen napkins, but you are made to feel very comfortable by the friendly, helpful wait staff who are only too glad to explain the menu if there are any questions. Their enthusiasm clearly shows they are proud of the unudual offerings and superb quality. Special cocktails are available and there are specials at the sushi bar, along with a five dollar early menu from 4:30 until 6:30.
