TamarindUpscale IndianMore pricey than 6th Street but so delicious. Try the lamb chops or the halibut. You'll love them both.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was wonderful.Everything was wonderful. I was there 2 years ago and the dining experience did not disappoint-just as memorable as the first visit.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMArguably best Indian food in NYCVery sophisticated, clean, wonderfully spiced Indian cuisine. Upscale pricing, no doubt....but worth it, no doubt.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of Our Favorite RestaurantsGreat food and great service! Always consistently good. Loved the halibut and my husband loved the paneer Labrador. Vegetable briani was amazing!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMI'd heard that this was theI'd heard that this was the best Indian food in the city, and had a wonderful meal a couple of years back, so this was where I chose to dine with my family -- 3 of us -- for the night of my 40th birthday. Great experience, fresh and creative ingredients but not too creative, and nice cocktail list also.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectThe food and service were perfect! We strong recomend the lamb and the halibut.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMTamarind is a lovely treat.Tamarind is a lovely treat. The restaurant itself if very pretty, service is very good and the food is wonderful.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best restaurants ever!Tamarind is my favorite restaurant in New York! The food is fantastic and the furniture is very elegant. Service is discrete and efficient. The fixed price lunch is very convenient, in my opinion the best quality/price ration in New York City!!
Finally I must add that the quality of the spices is excellent and you can feel that while you are eating and afterwards.
One of the best restaurant I have ever tried.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful ServiceExceptional service. The Lamb Vindaloo may have been the best I've had in NY.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible Indian !My partner and I ate here on Memorial Day evening and both thought it was outstanding
From the delicious Maharajah cocktail to the last mouthful of fish curry, it was terrific.
Interesting menu - I rarely go for fish but was rewarded as both the crab starter and entree fish were delicious
Service was functional and paced just right. No smiles in here from the staff though.
We will definitely be back here again !5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMHAD A GREAT TIMEThis restaurant is an perfect example of great service the time you entered the restaurant the host greets you amazingly... as u go further Food was outstanding service was immpeccable must say the team including the managers doing outstanding job last but not the least you hardly find any owner comes and check the table that every thing is good or not but the owner (Mr Walia) does it. He took an indian resturant to an utmost level we wish all the best to the team and keep doing it.We will definitely come back.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is the best indian restaurantThis is the best indian restaurant in NYC. Fantastic!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGood but way overpricedFood and service very good, but way overpriced. I ordered the special entree...it was 38 dollars and I believe they took advantage of the fact that I didn't know the actual price when I ordered and then hiked up the bill that way. All the entrees were too expensive for an Indian restaurant. They are trying to make it gourmet Indian...it doesn't work for me.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSolid but not exceptionalA good selection of Indian food from a diverse set of Indian locations. From the southernmost tip of india to the northern Punjab region you will find good options. The tandori lamb chops were excellent but the palak paneer left something to be desired. Certainly we would return but nothing that would make it a must .5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently as good as, ifConsistently as good as, if not better, than any Indian restaurant in in NYC.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMVery enjoyableOnly complaint I have was seating is soo close to other tables. I kinda wanted more privacy when giving my wife her gift without neighbouring tables all in our business. Food was excellent and service was definitely on point. Would definitely reccomend to friends n familly.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Indian restaurant in NYCWe have visited Tamarind (both locations) many times and have never been disappointed. Several years ago I had to be in the city for only half a day, but I made sure my time there included an opportunity to eat at Tamarind. That evening I arrived just as they opened and received a warm welcome. The visit 5/20/13 was no exception. We had eaten at Tamarind Tribeca on the 19th and one of the staff working at the 22nd Street location last night recognized us and came over to the table. He also spoke to us on the way out. The owner of the restaurant also stopped by our table to greet us.
The service was impeccable, as usual.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food, service, clay ovenThe food, service, clay oven situation, everything was perfect! Will definitely be coming back5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent and creatively doneExcellent and creatively done Mughlai food. Great ambiance. The ginger shrimps and the lamb chops were absolutely spectacular. Serving the desserts (e.g. rasmalai) in an edible chocolate bowl plated with rose petals was a spectacular touch.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat! We've eaten here a few times & always have a pleasant dining experience. We love this restaurant!!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointsWe've been to Tamarind many times over the years. Not frequently, but it's our go-to spot for a special dinner. It's delicious Indian food with gracious and attentive staff. You can't really go wrong.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFinest Indian restaurantDining is memorable at Tamarind. The service was superb--we were waited on with care and attention but without being smothered. The food was delicious, simply but elegantly presented. Best Indian culinary experience.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Indian Food in TownGreat, as always!! Love that Lamb Shank. Lightest Pooris ever!! Fantastic, friendly, attentive service. Very highly recommended!!!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstandingGreat, quality food - awesome service. Very attentive manager who made it a point to introduce himself immediately upon arrival and also checked up on us during the meal. The fish( Salmon) was excellent and came with this gorgeous tomato cream sauce. The jumbo prawns were great too. An "A+" from my mother after this Mother's day lunch with a very picky and specific Mom( who herself is the ultimate chef) says it all. Pistachio kulfi was creamy and delicious. definitely be back as the rest of the menu looked really, really good.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTamarind is a terrific, maybeTamarind is a terrific, maybe a great, restaurant. The food is indeed outstanding. We were in India recently, and the food at Tamarind is not authentic home cooking, but it's like what one gets in an array (and India DOES have an array) of restaurants, hotels, and so forth--so for us, it had a fine flash-back-to-India quality. Also: it is a restaurant with excellent vibes. We and everyone seem to be having a good time. People talk to each other. One sees (in our case, sits next to) celebrities sometimes. The service is attentive but not rushed. Everything good is to be said about Tamarind...5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMoutstanding as alwaysThis is probably one of "the best" indian cuisine restaurants in New York.
The owner is there every evening greeting patrons and overseeing the operation. The food quality is consistent and flavours are outstanding. The service is exceptional and alwsys with a smile. A place not to be missed whether you are a local or visiting from out of town.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful as alwaysTamarind is consistently good. I would recommend anyone to go to this world class restaurant.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Indian food inOutstanding Indian food in a quiet, elegant setting. The service is impeccable.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe we here, for the firstWe we here, for the first time, with out of town guests who like us to choose a different restaurant, each time they come to NYC. We were given a side booth, which was wonderful and made you feel as if you had a private spot. We started with drinks at the bar and chose two of the house drinks. They were so good - never had a mango martini before. The menu choices were interesting and delicious. Everyone had something different and we all like our dinner. We had a very nice time and never felt rushed. Our waiter was very nice and considerate. Food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meal.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, excellent service.Excellent, excellent service. One of our party needed dairy-free food, and our server was extremely knowledgeable, knew what to recommend and went out of her way to accommodate us.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorite NY restaurantsOne of my favorite NY restaurants - food, decor/ambience and service are impeccable! And the special lunch menu is a great deal. However, people who do not like spicy food would probably not enjoy it - some of the dishes are quite hot.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food! Great choicesExcellent Food! Great choices and some very creative non-traditional Indian dishes. Really enjoyed the cauliflower appetizer and would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting NYC. Not your traditional Indian Food Fare but very creative and very tasty dishes.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Indian RestaurantLobster had too much salt in it. When we brought it to our servers's attention, he told us that we might still get charged for it. We just wanted our sin to have something good to eat, so we told him its fine. And while we waited for our new order of tandori chicken to arrive. We found the owner (Mr Avatar Singh) staring at us. That was a bit spooky.
otherwise food was awesome and service was great. Wait staff was knowledgeable about the Indian food. Dessert selection was great. Loved the Gajarela and Mango kulfi.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMTamarind never disappoints.Tamarind never disappoints. It's not cheap, particularly when you add a couple of bottles of wine, but they really take care of you. Warm atmosphere, very attentive staff, outstanding food, and always a good experience.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful time here!We had a wonderful time here! Great place, period!!!!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite Indian in NYC...My Favorite Indian restaurant in NYC. I'm not enough of an expert to know if it's authentic, but it tastes amazing, so who cares. These are my favorites:
Appetizer: Vegetable Samosa
Main: Chicken Tikka Masala
Dessert: Rasmali
All the nan are delicious too.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMNot your neighborhood take-awayTamarind is high end Indian fare. This is not your neighborhood take out place, it has a real tandoor oven producing a juicy mixed grill and perfectly baked naan bread. The lamb in the rogan josh melted in your mouth - no overcooking here!
So that was the food, the service is what takes the experience over the top. Upon arrival, warm towels are brought to the table to clean your hands. Water is presented and refilled. Service is done with the diners in mind (i.e. no reaching over people, served from the left side at an angle as to not disturb you). When your curry and rice is brought to the table, the wait staff portions some out onto your plate for you. After dining another warm towel and on to desert...3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it!!!We had a large group and were there for a bday. We had a blast. Great food
