Diner Reviews
  • "The answer is yes, if you want a pampered evening in a stylish setting that is not typical of Indian food joints in NYC. The food is quite good, but at least for what we sampled, not noticeably above other good resto's with similar offerings. (The marinated lamb was delicious.) In other words, if you care about value, look elsewhere. Come here to impress someone."

  • "I love Indian dishes. If you have never had its delicacies, this is an excellent restaurant to try. Our German waiter was quite knowledgeable about the quisinne. This is important as Indian food can vary widely."

  • "We had the Chicken Tikka Masala and Lobster Masala dishes with garlic naan and basmati rice. The chicken was a little over done and dry, but the sauce it was in was perfect. Everything else was sublime, including the fine wine list. Will definitely be back here."

  • "I love Indian food, and try to find a new Indian restaurant in every new city I go to. I had heard great things about Tamarind, and was not disappointed. The food and service were fabulous, and this is tied for my favorite place with Rasika in DC. Great place."

  • "My spouse took me here for my birthday. Food as exceptional as you would expect from a Michelin Star restaurant. Portions were bigger than expected though, which is good. Drinks menu is excellent, but not exceptional. Their signature Tamarind Margarita is very unexpected and creative cocktail I would definitely recommend... It's a very clean and nice establishment, but their service is not as swift as it could be (maybe it was just a very busy evening)."

  • "First time I had been at this location and it was wonderful. My party of three had the Dover sole, seafood combination, and a chicken dish that were all wonderfully seasoned with spices and very aromatic. That course was preceded by some wonder appetizers include the shrimps special that was wonderfully prepared. Staff was very attentive and the wine list is exceptional with standard favorites along with some wonderful reserve wines. Spacing and timing were spot on so you did not feel rushed while eating. I would highly recommend for anyone that enjoys traditional Indian cuisine."

  • "I couldn't recommend this restaurant enough. Each dish was impeccably executed and offered imaginative twists on traditional favorites. The service was attentive and the serene atmosphere made conversation easy, which is hard to come by in trendy NYC restaurants these days. We will be back!"

  • "My favorite restaurant! We go there once a week - and so far I don't have even one complaint."

  • "This is probably the only Indian restaurant that serves exquisite authentic Indian cuisine with a varied menu from different Indian food styles. It builds on that authenticity further with an elegant new take on these foods and presents them to the diner in a stylish occidental manner. As a fairly discerning Indian diner this is one of the only Indian restaurants in the NY metro area that I consider representative of haute Indian cuisine and that offers much more than my own kitchen"

  • "Excellent service, meals were really great in perfect portions. Bread is really diferent but deliciuos. In general is our favorite restaurant en NYC."

  • "This restaurant used to be much better. The service is not as good anymore."

  • "This was a great overall restaurant although having eaten at some really good hole-in-the-wall Indian restaurants this would be more of a special occasion place for us. The service and ambiance are great and dishes are well-prepared. Just a bit more of a splurge than what I would normally pay for Indian food but a good experience if you're looking for something different."

  • "Delicious food. I only drank chai tea (which was also delicious) so can't speak to the wine/beverage aspecs. I went pretty late and there were lots of Indian families as well as dressed up women and date nights. It was an excellent venue for all"

  • "One of the best Indian restaurant. Their service was 5 star Food fresh, well cook awesome. I love their AMBIENCE ."

  • "The ambience here is ideal for a relaxing meal. Tables are nicely spaced apart; lighting is bright but comfortable and the noise level is moderate. The lunch menu is a terrific deal - $25 for an appetizer, 2 entrees and dessert - and the food is delicious. Our waitstaff was attentive and friendly. No complaints and I would recommend the restaurant to anyone."

  • "This is one of the better fine Indian restaurants I've been to in or near the city. I often go when I want a slightly more "upscale" experience of Indian food. It hasn't disappointed yet. The wine list is extensive, and the restaurant is generous with appetizers and desserts. I've been there three times so far, and there will be more visits to come. Recommended for special occasions or romantic dinners."

  • "Went for dinner, and the food did not live up to expectations. The butter chicken was not cooked very well, and the portions were too small. The only dish that was satisfactory was the punjabi mutton."

  • "We went here for dinner on a Saturday night. There was 5 of us and we decided to share our orders (portion sizes are smaller than your typical indian restaurant, but I would still recommend you share to enjoy more!). We start with the Aloo Tikyas, Scallops and Malai Murgh. All were phenomenal. For our main we had their award winning Halibut (highly recommend), Lamb Milagu and Paneer Makhani. All dishes were cooked to perrfection. The lamb was a perfect balance of spice. For dessert we ended with the Kulfi and Coconut Mousse. Coconut Mousse in particular was delicious and had a great texture."

  • "The food was very good as well as the selection advice from the wait staff. The room is beautiful and has a good energy level. We had the lamb chops and they were delicious."

  • "We were in NYC and decided to celebrate our 20th Anniversary here. Despite making a reservation on Open Table, The hostess couldn't seem to find our reservation. We explained our last name 3 times and told here we were celebrating our anniversary. Ultimately, she claimed she could not find the reservation and didnt honor our request for a quiet table. Instead they placed us by the waiters station and kitchen, which was loud and distracting. Our waiter had too many tables to wait on and it was not easy to get his attention. The food was quite good though and we did our best to enjoy the evening."

  • "Great food and good service. Too much air condition, so we got a bit cold (also the food)."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Food is amazing! We had the Mango Cosmo which was strong and fruity....for appetizers we tried the vegetable samosa which was very flavorful. For entrees I had the Vindaloo with salmon which wasnt listed on the menu but they were happy to oblige. My BF had the chicken tikka masala which he loved. All in all I think this place is a great choice for an upscale indian restaurant. My only gripe is that after you pay 30+ for an entree you expect it to at lease come with rice/naan. A small bowl of jasmine rice is an extra 6 bucks."

  • "My boyfriend is absolutely in love with Indian food, so I took him here for his birthday dinner. Everything was amazing, and even though we ate WAY too much we somehow still found room for dessert. Delicious and decent prices - even starving artists can treat themselves here!"
