Diner Reviews
  • "This is porbably my favorite Thai restaurant in the Midtown area. Great balance between quality and price."

  • "Great food. I eat here nearly every time I visit Atlanta. Highly recommended."

  • "The food and service and gone down significantly. The beef nam tok was tough and chewy and the pad thai noodle was too wet and tasteless. I asked and server about the noodle and was told this was how it was served. Never will return."

  • "We picked the restaurant for its proximity to the Symphony and, for that purpose, it's outstanding. The food was above average and the service was typical Thai friendly but a bit inefficient. Probably not a destination restaurant. OT reservation was spot on."

  • "Looking for a restaurant we had not been to before, my partner and I went here based on the reviews. We were not disappointed. Even though I had a fish entrée with green beans and eggplant (please forgive me for not remembering the name) which had a 3 pepper green curry sauce, it was not too spicy. My partner and I shared the basil rolls, which were rather bland, and the larb, which was excellent with the amount of lime juice that had been added. Indeed, I felt it was the best Thai restaurant I had been to--everything was wonderfully fresh."

  • "The food is consistently great here. Service is always good. Try the Nan Martini. Nice patio when the weather is nice."

  • "My third trip with different group. We all love it. We love the appys and the tarimisu to die for! Location perfect for in town attractions"

  • "The food was amazing. As a vegetarian, I am always looking for a place with quality vegetarian options. Even though tofu wasn't on the menu, they had it readily available when I asked for it. My husband also asked for a change to his dish & they were more than willing to comply with his wishes. This is a GREAT restaurant!"

  • "The food and service at Tamarind is always exquisite. Have been going there every time I go to Atlanta for 15 years. It is a welcoming sensory experience every time you enter the restaurant. One of the best in Atlanta for both food quality and excellent service."

  • "Consistently one of the best Thai restaurants in Atlanta, and one of the best restaurants in Midtown."

  • "Food was great , portions huge , but noise level was unbearable I wouldn't return on a weekend"

  • "The food was fairly good and the service was good. The pricing however seem to out pace the quality and atmosphere.I have had a lot better for far less. I think the prices just reflect their downtown location, which funny enough is literally 30 steps from a mall food court."

  • "For a special occasion we enjoy Nan's Fine Dining, but for a more casual evening Tamarind Seed is just fine. The food is as good as Nan's, although a bit less exotic!!"

  • "Great service, outstanding food and a good value. What else can I say?"

  • "We love Thai food. Having traveled to Thailand and tried thai restaurants in every city we visit we were largely disappointed in this one. The chicken was not tender the favors of the curries not delicate or complex. Service was attentive but overall not worth going out of your way for"

  • "I've loved Tamarind Seed ever since I moved to Atlanta in 2011, but during my most recent visit, I was more impressed than ever. I asked if they had a certain Thai dish that was my favorite when I studied abroad in college. It wasn't on the menu but the waitress said they could make it. They did and it was delicious!"

  • "I like Tamarind Seed better than their big sister and the prices are much lower."
    Dined on 1/24/2014
  • "I took a friend for lunch who had never been before and she loved it! As always the food was really good. It was a quiet Sunday around 12noon so very different experience from when I have been in the evening and it has been packed. One of my favorites for good Thai food."

  • "Despite great online reviews we found this to be a disappointing experience. The food was uninspiring, not particularly fresh, overly greasy, too sweet and too salty. Service was slow due to a trade show invasion."

  • "I ate at Tamarind on 1/7/14. It was VERY cold outside. The restaurant was not much warmer than the outdoors. In my view, it should not have been open. At a minimum they should have told us when we arrived that they were experiencing significant issues with their heat. As it was, by the time we were seated and realized that we weren't getting warmer, we had our beverages and it was too late for us to go elsewhere without taking an extended lunch beyond what we had planned. There were workmen there working on the heat. I will note that I have eaten at Tamarind many times before and I generally give it high ratings. Also, they did provide us with complimentary hot tea after they heard us complaining about the temperature."

  • "We went there because it was close to the Atlanta Symphony and we do like Thai food. It was just Ok. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was very good either. Service was efficient, but impersonal. Food was delivered within a few minutes of ordering, nothing could have been cooked from scratch. Very loud. The food was OK, but below average for better Thai restaurants. Food prices are moderate; wine prices were high. $15 corkage."

  • "An excellent Thai cuisine restaurant with lots of choice. The service was 1st class, friendly and attentive. Great value for money in Atlanta's downtown."

  • "Lightly battered Chilean sea bass was tasty, right amount of sweet and spicy with fried okras and eggplant. White rice balances the meal. Waitress took some time to come back at first to take our order but I think she was just giving us time to look over the menu and came back to check on how we were enjoying our meal. Inside a mall plaza, parking right below was easy to find. Good place for a leisurely dinner with friends and drinks. We are from NYC. Would come back on a future visit to Georgia."

  • "Tamarind Seed, in the Colony Square complex, is the third restaurant in Atlanta by Charlie and Nan. The first was the original Tamarind, which had to close because of a street widening project. The second is Nan, which is slightly more upscale than Tamarind Seed, and the third is Tamarind Seed. A fourth, Tuk Tuk, is, I understand, the product of one of their children. All are excellent, with great Thai food, great service, and excellent ambiance. My wife, her son (who lives in Milan) and I went to TS over the Christmas holidays. The crowd was light, but the service and food were just as good as always. The valet parking option makes access very easy. TS and Nan, are, in my opinion, by far the best Thai restaurants in Atlanta."

  • "The best Thai food I've eaten in the South and Northeast. It reminded me of the Thai restaurants in Northern California. The Thai dishes are authentic, elegant and flavorful! The dishes just has the right amount of sweetness, sourness and spiciness! Tamarind Seed is worth the three-hour drive!"

  • "Great experience. I had the chicken satay and the pad-zee-mau and they were wonderful. I really enjoyed the fact that I never poured my own sake. Great job!!"

  • "I no longer live in Atlanta, so every time I visit, I make a point to stop here; this last trip only served to remind me why. The setting was perfect for a reunion dinner with a couple of friends, the drinks are tasty as ever, the food takes me back to Thailand with each bite, and attentive service with a smile made the evening a complete success. I'm already looking forward to my next meal there . . ."

  • "Very good Thai food. Good service. Pleasant atmosphere. Staff should lose the Dyson while quests are dining."

  • "Pleasant evening. Skip the so-so fried calamari (tender but nothing memorable). Next time I will choose basil or spring rolls. Pay attention to the level of 'hot' as defined on the menu by the number of chili peppers shown and choose according to your preference for heat. We choose Chao-lay, a seafood mix ( labeled with 1 chili pepper) and Jumbo Prawns with Green Curry (labeled with 3 hot peppers). Both were as labeled and delicious but I do question why you have to pay extra for the sticky rice which should be included in the price of the entree. The food was fresh and the portion sizes generous. Service was attentive."

  • "A bit disappointing. I was there a few years ago and it was the place to be. Great service and superb food. This time it was just an average, almost boring Thai place. Service was alright at best. What happened?"

  • "I love Thai food but shy away from take out to avoid MSG. While not inexpensive, Tamarind Seed's portions are large and the food quality is above average. I work in downtown but often volunteer to make the quick drive to meet friends at lunch time. I appreciate the validated parking in the Colony Sq lot which significantly increases the convenience factor."

  • "We had a great meal. The appetizers of calamari band dumplings were delicious. The entrees were a shrimp patai, shrimp and scallops and minced chicken all of which was delicious."

  • "I visit the Tamarind Seed for most of my special occasions and whenever I have company in town I take them there. I always start my meal with the Kung-Thod appetizer which is amazing. I highly recommend their Duck or their Snapper special when it is available. You won't be disappointed."

  • "The food was good, but service was slow. Also, the floor of the restaurant wasn't very clean."

  • "We were downtown visiting the High museum and stopped here to eat. Service was friendly, food was on time and hot, everything had well developed flavors. It was pricey, but I thought it was worth the price."

  • "Tamarind Seed seems to be losing its polish and excellent food and service each year it stays at Colony. Very disappointing."

  • "We've been here four times now and never had anything that wasn't outstanding. The service was very attentive and helpful. Everything we ordered, from the basil rolls and calamari appetizers to the seafood basil fried rice and the spicy Asian whitefish with eggplant and green beans, was awesome. The amount of spice and the flavors were perfect. If your looking for great Thai food, just go here and enjoy."
