Waited long time to get seated. Waited more once seated for any service at all. Very small and uncomfortably dark. Took 10 mins to even get water ordered once seated 20 mins after reservation was made. Sadly disappointed in staff/restirant itself. Food quality was slightly redeeming, but did not justified cost.

There was nothing particularly bad about this place but none of the indian dishes were all that good. They seemed very tame about using heat and I like my Indian food on the spicy side. For the price, I just think there are better places. On the plus side, our server was very friendly and we had plenty of attention (although that could have been due to the fact there were only a few parties in the restaurant).

This is a delicious Indian restaurant! I am shocked though that it's the only Michelin star restaurant in OC. It was fantastic, but there was nothing special about what I ate that I haven't eaten at small hole in the wall, family owned Indian restaurants. They had a great list of delicious cocktails and overall our meal was delicious, but I was expecting some special dish that I wouldn't see or have tried at other places and that was missing for me. This is also a super mellow, romantic, quieter type of restaurant. It's not a loud, vibrant type of place.. great date night place though.

Our experience was absolutely wonderful. It was my fathers birthday, which I indicated in the reservation. Our server, Christian, was outstanding. He went above and beyond. To start, he asked what my dad liked to drink, as he could see that my dad was having trouble deciding, and recommended a cocktail (old fashioned). It was delicious! Then when his drink was empty, Christian came by, after having gone to ask the bartender what he would recommend next for my dad, and came back with another recommendation which was even better than the first (sazerac)! The food was great. We had lamb biryani, chicken tikka masala & onion kulcha. Everything was hot when it arrived and tasted delicious. We look forward to going back again.

Celebrated 5 year anniversary here. Amazing food and Stephanie the manager was very flexible when we asked for a tasting menu. And the chef did not disappoint. Excellent food. Will be back. Friendly staff, but understaffed, perhaps? Overall, one of our best experiences in this region. Well done, Tamarind!

Tamarind of London really has their menu clicking on all cylinders. The staff is very friendly too and really shows their appreciation for their customers each visit. I brought my girlfriend here with her parents for our first dinner out as a group together, and it was such a hit. They love Indian food already and were pretty blown away by the quality of the menu items here. We will definitely keep coming back and I think I got her parents hooked on the place now too - instant brownie points!! ;)

Excellent find. The restaurant has a great vibe, comfortable seating with a lovely outdoor area. We were seated immediately. The servers were wonderful, they were attentive, but not overly fussy. The food was amazing we tried the Sea Bass, was the best Sea Bass I have had. Additionally we tried the cauliflower and potatoes side-dish, garlic naan bread and the lamb biryani. The lamb was tender and plentiful with a flakey crust. I have a food allergy and they easily worked around it. It is easy to see why this is highly rated. We would definitely return.

We looked forward to Tamarind and I was very disappointed. The food was just "plain" and "bland". They are a London based Indian rest with a great rep. But pointed out they lowered the heat level for Orange County. Why would you do that? Your a 1 Star Michelin in London and you dumb down your recipes for the US. Plus the waiter didn't deliver on the promised Papadums and Chutney sampler before the meal. Overall--take a pass until they get serious about thier own recipes.

We dined here the other night. The hostess at the front was the best part of the evening...She was delightful...It went down from there. The place has a very negative, dark, dreary energy. We ordered iced tea, and they were out! How does that happen? At dessert my husband ordered chocolate gelato...they were out of that too. There were 3 different servers who waited on us, and the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. One took our order, then another came up and asked for our order, it was crazy. The restaurant was pretty empty, but they definitely have staff problems there! The food was good, but there is more to a restaurant than just food. Will not be going back

The ambiance was my kind of dark but for a Monday the type and loudness needed to be turned way down wish they readily did for us. The server David was impeccable and very nice and helpful. We had the Quinoa salad which was to die for, and the potato naan, and then the grilled prawns. The wine was top notch as was the exit mint frosted thin cookie. A great time was had by us two.

We enjoyed Tamarind if London. Indian is my favorite cuisine and we frequent several restaurants a year looking for new gems. The food was very good, and the ambience much nicer than what one might expect at other Indian places. We chose to done family style, sharing dishes, but many did not. You can order a single dish just for you , or share. All were well prepared, very tasty, and in generous portions. This restaurant is more expensive than most Indian restaurants, but you will likely have leftovers and a second meal. Dress casual nice or business casual while I usually drink an Indian Beer with my meal, Tamarind of London has an extensive wine list, and my melbec went well with my lamb. Not familiar with Indian cuisine?

Tamarind of London changed it's sign near PCH; Tamarind Indian Cuisine and thought the management had changed. We made reservations for 12:15 on a Friday but truly there was no need, the entire place was empty. We ordered; Cheddar Cheese Naan, Goat Cheese Naan, Garlic Naan, Spinach Saag, Tikka Chicken, Lemon Curried Scallops and coffee pistachio ice cream. The portions were extremely small and very expensive. The place was dark and univiting, the patio had little to no shade, no misters for a hot day or fans. I won't be back due to price our meal without drinks of any kind was $104. What bothers me is India is a very inexpensive country to visit and eat at, but when Indian food comes to America they jack up the price

Overpriced food can be overlooked for the location but service was atrocious. 6 pm Monday, only 3 tables were occupied during our entire stay. After our drinks were delivered, a bus boy wiped out table, that was odd. Nobody else had sat there for the day since they opened at 5:00. Wait staff checked in on us once after our food was delivered, okay that's great and then it went downhill. The bus boy tried to box our leftovers while stacking plates, nearly knocking the bus tray over with weight on 1 side. Then he confused the leftovers for each person. We ordered dessert and 3 coffees. Water and coffee never refilled when he brought us the check or after we paid bill. We lingered another 20 min after that with no refills.

We tried something new for my son's 21st birthday so we headed to Tamarind of London almost to Laguna Beach. The small plate scallops and goat cheese nan were great-tasty and different. The shrimp curry and chicken tikka were expensive and unspectacular. I had to flag the waiter to order and to get the check. They brought a small dessert for the birthday boy which was nice. For the price and the caliber of food, I couldn't recommend it for Indian food in the OC.

I have been to Tamarind on many occasions. Recently i i read an article in OC MOM dining section, it was an excellent article which pretty much covered everything about the restaurant. It is very rare that such a high end ethnic restaurant is in OC. I would expect Tamarind to be in LA, NY or Vegas. Anyways its great for me that they decided to open in Newport, i absolutely love each and everything about this restaurant the food is to die for they are known for their lamb chops and sea bass which is from New Zealand and they make it in their clay oven in an open kitchen. Cant ask for more.

I have travelled multiple times to several areas in India and was looking forward to great Indian dishes. This was far from any normal Indian cuisine. It looked like California food made to look Indian. But even the spices and the sauces lacked flavor. A basic dish such as vegetables looked like it was made in a school cafetaria. I lived in the 80's in London and it reminded me of the then prevailing craving for grease and bland food. (Nowadays one eats better in London)

This was my second time dining at Tamarind my first experience was excellent so i was hoping they would be able to keep up the first amazing experience. I got the Kamalas Kiss to start with and it was really nice maybe they could have put more vodka in it. My server got me these amazing lentil chips to start with along with 3 dipping sauces this was similar to a Mexican restaurant setting. I got the prawn curry and sea scallops for my main course they were both excellent. The server was great too however both the times i came in the restaurant was about half full so I'm hoping they keep up with the service on busy nights too.
