I was going to the Grey Box Theater for a show and decided to try Tamari. I got the Rainbow Roll and the Chef's Special Maki for dinner. I was impressed with the freshness of the fish; best that I have had in the city.

This place is the bomb. Bartender was very attentive and friendly. She made a lot of good suggestions and let us try some different liquors that I hadn't had before. I ordered edamame first. The dusting that they put on it is really tasty. We then ordered the shrimp tacos. Fantastic, tons of flavor. The sushi rolls were great as well. I can't remember what the special was but one of them had jalepeno in it with spicy tuna and it was one of the best rolls I have ever had. Definitely recommend this place.

We happened to mention to the waitress that it was our Anniversary when we asked to see the dessert menu. The desserts on menu were not worth the calories so past on dessert. The waitress surprised us with two glasses of champagne. It was a nice touch to very good dinner.

I went with my boyfriend for a Lawrenceville date night and although my high heels weren't excited about the stairs it was a great environment. We love our craft beer and the list was decent but I would have liked to see a couple more local breweries on it. We shared the hangar steak robata which was very tender ascend had awesome flavor, the spicy tuna maki that was unexpectedly yet delightfully smoky and not too spicy, and the chef special of braised pork belly with scallion cake and braised red cabbage. The pork belly melted in my mouth and although is fatty in nature didn't come off greasy. Over all, the whole dish was incredible, well balanced, and cohesive!

I took my boyfriend to Tamari for his birthday and it was to die for. Great service, great food. I don't like sushi very much and my boyfriend does, so it was nice that both of us were able to enjoy dinner with our different tastes. I had put as a comment in my initial reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, and they brought us creme brulee on the house! You don't often find that in nicer restaurants. We will be going back soon.

A bit precious. The menu was a little difficult to understand for someone who had not dined there before. The explanations provided were not all that helpful. Some of the food was on the greasy side. When I needed to change my reservation to 6:30, the only reasonably close choice igiven was 6:45 -- so why were there plenty of empty tables in the restaurant when my guest and I arrived a little early to sit at the bar and wait for a table?

I took my out of town guests here after enjoying cocktails and appetizers here before but was very disappointed with our meals. All of us felt our meals were too salty. My husband joked his pork shank was good but it was so salty it was going to give him a heart attack. I had the scallops and the sauce was so salty I could not eat it. I should have sent mine back but I did voice my concerns to the hostess. I have never had such salty food anywhere. My brother had the Korean chicken ...he always eats everything but left half his meal although he said it was good. The Edanamee, sushi and cocktails were good. For the price, I could not recommend this restaurant and I will not eat there again. I was embarrassed I brought my guests here.

The term Latin-inspired always puzzled me so I had to check out Tamari for myself. I went during Pittsburgh restaurant week and had one of the best tasting meals ever in Pittsburgh. The meal started with an empanada followed by a summer maki roll with tuna nd mango, and finally sea bass. Delicious food and friendly attentive staff.

THis is the second time we have been to Tamari together and both times have set at the chef's table with a view into the kitchen. To say that it was fun is an understatement. The kitchen staff was engaging, their food was even better - from the sushi to the muscles to the lobster mac n cheese - worth the price of admission! The service was prompt, friendly and efficient without being overbearing - turned a great night into a very romantic night... We will be back - over and over again. Thanks guys!

Tamari is one of our favorites, but I was disappointed with Open Table service. We were given a choice of either 5:30 or 8:00 on a Monday night for 2 people. We got there at 5:30 and the restaurant was barely occupied and was never more than half full the entire time we were there. We would have much preferred a 7:30 seating that was clearly available. I would recommend the restaurant, but not Open Table.

I made a reservation for my birthday, (I like to try places I haven't yet gotten a chance to go to) and it was the best decision I have ever made! It can be a challenge sometimes to find a place with a diverse menu for me to choose from but with this menu I had a hard time deciding what to get! Both my partner and I were blown away by each course, (the mussels were my favorite). Great portion sizes, excellent plating, and outstanding flavor. I can't wait to get back! Best dining experience in Pittsburgh!

The lobster mac-n-cheese was too rich with cheese, very little lobster. Claimed that claw meat was mixed in - really? My wife's flank steak was mediocre at best. Over-priced for dishes that were not great. Will likely not visit again.

Our second experience at Tamari was not as good as our first (in February.) Service was iffy, we waited a long time for our drinks...they came after the forst 2 courses. I also hate when tapas places bring more than one at a time. If we are sharing, we only need one at a time, please. Also the food did not seem to have the bright flavors we remembered. The best item was the Angry Lobster Roll, which was delicious.

I made an online reservation for a table for the five members of my family to celebrate my son's graduation, and while I couldn't get the time we wanted, I figured it was worth it to ensure that we had a nice table. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed to find that we were seated at the back of the sushi bar section, an area that turned out to be very chaotic and noisy, and a real comedown from the much nicer upstairs section. It struck me that we would have been better off just showing up at the time we had wanted to be there anyway, and waiting for a table to open up, since i can't imagine anyone choosing to sit where we were placed. For a very expensive meal, this wasn't a terribly pleasant experience.

The family celebrated my son's graduation from high school here and had a fabulous meal. My 18 year-old picked this restaurant based on good memories from about four years ago when my husband and I had celebrated our anniversary here. Our server was well versed in every aspect of our meal including a "strong" cocktail for my husband. Have the pork shank! I will be returning sooner than another four years. Thank you for an awesome meal.
