  • "I really don't like seafood, and the few times I've tried sushi in the past have been less-than-pleasant. We tried a bunch of different small plates from the tapas menu and loved everything that came to the table - even stuff that I know I normally hate, like tuna tartare. The food is so good here that it makes me like things I'd never eat otherwise. The service was also really nice - attentive but not intrusive. Our waiter was extremely professional. The evening was so enjoyable - we'll definitely be back."

  • "Love, love, love this place. I have never had a bad meal. Service is always fantastic and the food is amazing. I even have a shellfish allergy so sushi is a toss up for me, but they are so good about allergies here that I never have to worry. I just let the waitress/waiter know ahead of time and they double check everything!"

  • "Everything single thing we ordered--from the wine to the small plates to entre was so flavorful and thoughtfully prepared. We were unrushed, though it took us time to settle in and make decisions. Our questions were answered with friendliness and service was attentive. You have to try: grilled quail eggs, grilled romaine salad, tuna tacos, chorizo tacos, asian sea bass,...I have to go back to try many other interesting looking offerings."

  • "This is a favorite restaurant of ours. The services is impeccable, the wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the food is awesome! One really cool thing about it is that there are mostly small plates for sharing, so you come away from the meal satisfied but not stuffed to the brim and also this way you get to sample a lot more funky dishes. Love it. Can't wait to go back."

The sushi is very good but some of the specialty rolls were pricey compared to more of the standard rolls and individual pieces. If you are going to have a drink and leave full then you're going to spend at least $40/person if not more."

  • "We have dined here 4 times. All 4 times the food is excellent. We always secure a seat at the counter. However, our last time here we sat at a table because the counter was already reserved. The service was horrible. We were forgotten multiple times by our waitress. In the middle of our dining, we asked to move to the counter which was completely open. We finished our dinner at the counter, watching them prepare the food and the service was exceptional, (how it had always been). I don't think we will ever sit at a table here again."

  • "I loved Tamari! The food was excellent and the drinks were great too! I started out with the Jalepeno Margarita, and all I can say is WOW! We got the sampler next, and I loved the sauces, especaially the one with the cilantro. We then got the calamari, which had their great pico salsa on top, great combo. The sushi was next and it was everything that I had expected. Everything was reasonably priced as well. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!!"

  • "Tamari has officially become our place to go for a nice meal out. I love the sushi, but all the food is amazing. They are able to layer so many flavors and keep them all balanced. However, this time we had a little surprise. Being a fan of Zombie movies, I had to order this new drink called, I believe, Dead Man Walking. Well, while the tequila and blood orange are the main ingredients, there were many others mixed in as well. I've enjoyed drinks here before, but this one was a categorical step up. When our waitress returned, I told her I hadn't had a drink that good since Embury on the strip closed several years ago. She smiled and said, that's because Spencer Warren from Embury designed it. :) Keep it up Tamari, you know we will be back."

  • "We take our daughters out for Valentine's Day every year and like to try recommended restaurants. Don't get me wrong, the food was good. It was just less than expected. We eat at a lot of nice places and we like very flavorful food. It was good but not outstanding. The short ribs were very good. The sushi was good. The fried rice was not what I expected at all and was very dry and not very flavorful. Would we go back again, probably not. We do not mind paying good money for great food but it just fell a little short. Waiter was excellent. No real complaints just a little lacking on overall wow-ness."

  • "This was our 3rd or 4th visit to Tamari, and it never fails to delight. Each "small bite" has a distinctive taste, and the cumulative dining experience is always exciting. If you have a hungry group, it can get expensive to feed everyone, but Tamari is perfect for a light, interesting, and delicious meal."

  • "Do be fair, we were only there to do a bunch of small plates, so we didn't sample entrees of the sushi. That said, I expect a lot of unique flavors from Asian/Fusion small plates, and we both found those flavors lacking. The best one was a pulled pork quesadilla, which I don't really consider Asian anyway. My fish taco was fishy (and, to their credit, they didn't charge us) and the skewers were, again, "just OK". Lots of good reviews here, so it may just be that we aren't sushi lovers, so didn't get their best offerings."

  • "This is more than a sushi restaurant. From Small to Large Plates, you can find a a lot of different influences in the dishes, South-American, Creole and European. Always ask for the Specials, because you'll be surprised - like a was with baby ribs veal. Must-try: the Robata Sampler."

  • "Upon arriving, the maitre de graciously seated us in a spacious booth, as requested. The waitress was attentive and willing to answer our questions about items on the menu. The food presentation was well done and there was not a long wait for our entrees. At the end of the meal, we were treated to a shot of their limoncello, a lovely end to a delicious meal. The staff was friendly and all made an effort to make us feel welcome, including those cooking in the open kitchen behind the bar, who greeted us as we walked by. There is a space for outdoor seating when the weather is more accommodating. We would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "The five people in our party all ordered a different menu selection. We all tried each one and we were amazed at how delicious every dish was. Stand out was the beef short rib that melts in your mouth. The presentation and staff are delightful. Restaurant small yet very accommodating. Perfect intimate dining experience. We were able to have a conversation at normal level which was a pleasant surprise. We will go back!"

Our waitress didn't even come to ask us how everything was or if we would like to order more sushi. And overall she was not so friendly. I would definitely recommend the sushi some of the best I have had in pittsburgh."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Tamari in Lawrenceville for dinner during Pittsburgh's Restaurant Week and were not dissapointed! The food was superb and the presentation was beautiful. From the moment we walked in, we received a warm welcome and a comforting yet trendy vibe. Everything about the menu, ambiance, presentation and service was purposeful and top notch. The first course was a salmon spring roll, second course volcano tuna maki roll, and third course was a petit fillet with gorgonzolla cream. My words are not doing the dishes justice so please try them for yourself as well as their delicious cocktails. Having experienced Restaurant Week many times, I am happy to say that this was the best Restaurant Week special I've had to date!"

  • "I had been to Tamari in Lawrenceville previously and had a terrific time! so when I had the chance to select the restaurant for dinner with an out of town friend, it was my first choice. A little more sacual than my first visit, but that's a good thing. Friendly wait staff, perhps she was new? (seemed a little nervous) Recommendations were great, food was prompt and delicious. The only other memorable moment was the sous chef banging a tray during prep: once, twice three times...guacamole? Maybe we should have tried it?! All in all...good food, good fun, a great evening. I have to come back in the summer...that patio is just too cold this time of year. Thanks!"

  • "Great spot and incredible food. Sharing a ton of different small plates is such a great way to make the whole dinner experience more interactive and a great way to keep a date fun!! Did Tapas and then finished with Sushi. The lobster mac and cheese and pork cheek tacos were incredible. The kale and brussel sprouts was a little disappointing as it had more beans than brussel sprouts but still tasted good. Finished it off with an Angry Lobster Roll and was stuffed from a great meal. Will definitely have to make it back here again."

  • "We went with some friends on Black Friday. Our friends were stuck at work and in traffic and didn't arrive till almost an hour after our reservation. My wife and I were asked if we wanted to wait for the rest of our group at the bar or sit down. We sat down, from this poit everything was spectacular, the service was great we ordered small plates we had two of them while waiting. No rush from the server great food presented beautifully. We will definitely be back. I can understand whit it's hard to get in."
