TamariReally fascinating fusionReally fascinating fusion cuisines, very spicy and varied/ Outstanding!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways good!We love this place. Always an interesting menu. Great cocktails and wine selection.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent tapas! What a great dinner. It was fun sharing and it was reasonably priced!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSushi and empanadasIn my opinion among the variety the menu offers the best choice are the empanadas and the sushi. Delicious food with the right amount of spicyness.
They also have good drinks too.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's great to have outstandingIt's great to have outstanding food in a well designed environments5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the chefsWe really enjoyed talking to the chefs. Not only did we learn alot about what we were eating, but we learned about the obento option and fixed prix Sunday brunch for which we will be most definitey returning.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was wonderful,The service was wonderful, our server was willing to help with suggestions. She checked back often, but no so often as to be annoying. The food was excellant; the combinations of flavors and the presentation were great. My only complaint is because it is small and the tables are close, it can be noisy making a more intimate conversation difficult.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAcross the board very good/excellenAcross the board very good/excellent. We did 3 tapas dishes and two house rolls. The Tamari roll was the best of all.
Friend calamari also very good. Good wine list, and better cocktails.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. Duck special was great4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMVery creative fusion of foodVery creative fusion of food and flavors, beautifully presented. Exciting menu, loved the small plates for tasting.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food - Service needs workCreative ingredient combinations and presentations give this restaurant a "WOW" factor. Roger Li is one of the most talented chefs in Pittsburgh. While the food is very good, the service really doesn't measure up - servers are not forthcoming with the specials and can be slow to bring drinks, pick up food. On the other hand, they are quick to try and take your order even if you have obviously not even looked at a menu. And for as many times as I have been there, they never recognize me nor rarely acknowledge me as a returning customer - even with their Open Table notes.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThanksEven though there was reservation mix up they made
arrangements to seat us at a table the gentleman at the front area
was awesome as was the wait staff. We were told that we could be ther
until a certain time a d never felt rushed as we stayed a little longer
as we lost time talking to friends. Food was awesome as always.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food will bring me back!If there is ONE thing I liked the most about TAMARI, it was the food. The walls and bar backdrop were hip, but the dining area failed to match the vibe. It cannot be called a special occasion place, even though our bill was not small. But the FOOD was well worth it. The kitchen did a great job of creating culinary masterpieces of Latino Asian fusion. On this Friday night, it was busy, noisy on the same level as bars and clubs. The entrance to the restaurant gives a sophisticated feel that gives way once seated on the bare wooden tables in a cramped dining room. I am not sure how to classify TAMARI, a great restaurant or a hectic bar with great food. Maybe this fusion is intentional but I will definitely be back!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as always. LovedExcellent as always. Loved the Trout Special and the Muscles4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMTamari excels at taking classicTamari excels at taking classic ingredients and re-imagining them in delicious and adventurous ways. My eggs benedict took on new life with salmon and fresh herbs instead of the traditional ham. And the prix fixe brunch menu gives you the freedom to sample while remaining very affordable.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find! Asian/Latin fusion! After we found a place to park on the street (not always an easy task in Lawrenceville) and walked into the restaurant, we loved the decor and were blown away by the menu. Tamari is one of the few truly creative restaurants I've seen in Pittsburgh, a combination of Asian and Latin (mostly Argentinean) dishes, served mostly tapas style. They also serve a more traditional maki (larger plates of sushi and other rolls).
The robata grill isn't well explained on the menu, but it's fantastic. The prices are cheap because it's just a single skewer of meat, but they were delicious. The beef teriyaki was particularly good.
The maki was also outstanding (definitely check out the TNT for a nice Asian/Latin fusion) and the wine list was fantasti4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was wonderful, andThe food was wonderful, and beautifully presented. Excellent service, very accommodating to the special needs of one of our party.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a delightful surpriseIt was a delightful surprise for our first time. Plan to visit again. We were delayed by traffic (rush hour)but we called and asked if they could push our reservation back by 20 min. When we got there our table had been kept opened, and we were grateful as the crowd of patrons had started to build up. This is definitely a hopping place with very tasty tapas and maki.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe evening we were there,The evening we were there, the bar was hopping! This was the first time we had sat upstairs and although it was pretty loud, the atmosphere was great. Service was a bit slow though. Maybe that was because the bar was so busy that the staff couldn't get to the tables. We had a reservation for 6pm and concert tickets for 8pm so we didn't stay for desert and we were late for the concert:(:( Great food and cocktails though.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe visited the restaurantWe visited the restaurant at the suggestion of a friend and were delighted with our meal. We went early on a Saturday evening (5pm) so as to avoid crowds so it was pretty quiet. We had dishes from the Tapas side of the menu which were all interesting and compared favorably with similar offerings at other restaurants.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThree of us went to TamariThree of us went to Tamari for brunch on a Sunday morning. It was absolutely fantastic. The food- Out of this world. The cocktails- Far superior to anything I've ever tasted at brunch. The only sad part? The coffee. It was weak. However, I like my coffee dark and strong. The coffee, however, is NOT going to dissuade me from going to Tamari again. I can't wait to go to a Tamari Happy Hour...3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMLucky Search ResultI found Tamari on a lucky Google search, and I am so very glad I did! The tuna tartare, the angry lobster, the TNT, the cinnamon cardamom churros - everything we ate was incredible, and the Ninth Ward and St. Germaine's Rosé were both fantastic drinks. The service was also fantastic. I heartily recommend trying it out!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to Tamari forWe have been to Tamari for dinner, but this was our first brunch here. The food was fantastic, and there was a little something on the menu for all different tastes. Will definately do it again!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe selection of both TapasThe selection of both Tapas and Sushi/Maki dishes was, as always outstanding. The tuna tartar is the best we've had, and the shrimp tacos were excellent. It is great to keep ordering a selection of small plates and even with a full dining room the food service was uninterrupted. When it is full the dining room/bar is a bit loud for table conversation, and a broader wine list would be a nice add. We'll definitely be back soon, probably when outdoor dining is open.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently good food, service,Consistently good food, service, drinks. Really a go-to place for a fun night out.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot for sushi and more.My husband and I had four courses consisting of small plates and sushi, and really enjoyed everything we ate. Our server did a great job of coursing out our food as we always had something to eat in front of us but never felt rushed. We sat in a booth facing the sushi bar. We really enjoyed watching the food coming and going and people watching. We were pleasantly surprised that it was not too loud. We were able to converse at a normal volume and were able to hear everything our server said. He was knowledgeable about the food menu as well as cocktails, and I always enjoy getting the server's opinion on various dishes when asked. He gave great recommendations, was friendly, and really added to our experience. We will definitely be back soon.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
