Diner Reviews
  • "There were 2 new bartenders on a Friday night, which seemed to be a poor decision as our drinks took very long to reach the table. Our server did not seem to know what was going on: she didn't know who ordered what, she had no menu suggestions, she was not very attentive (and we were very not needy), she did not take everyone's order, resulting in our table trying to flag her down. The food was excellent, the drinks were excellent, the ambiance was fun and comfortable. The manager did apologize for the transition phase of the restaurant (namely about the bartenders). Overall a great experience."

  • "Had lunch here for the first time. Bento Box selections offered great variety for a different business lunch. NIce toi have this unique option in the North Hills. Service was spot on."

  • "happiness is a bunch of really good, interesting, and fun maki. Had six awesome sushi/maki rolls, some apps, and desert. Bottle of cab [14 Hands] was really good as well."

  • "Tamari is one place were the quality of the food is consistent and always excellent. Their food is always fresh. Do yourself a favor and try everything on their menu; you will not be disappointed. Both locations are great."

  • "They opened a back room for the valentine's weekend that did not have the same vibe as the main restaurant but as usual the meal was delicious."

  • "One of my favorite sushi places. This will always be a stop on the sushi restaurant list."

  • "My fiancé and I loved the food. My family services the produce at this location. I was very pleased with the quality of food and wine. We would come again, and would recommend to others. We tried the TNT Maki, Sea Bass over Brussels Sprouts, Chicken and Scallion, and Lobster Mac & Cheese. Great job on all four meals and intimate setting. Nice Alfredo Roca Pinot Noir accompanied the meal very well."

  • "Food good, but overpriced compared to similar sushi restaurants, I would not frequent a place when I could buy rolls for 5 bucks less at a different place...."

  • "Service made for a long evening! Had to wait for table despite resv - when to bar, long wait for drink despite bar not being full Server was pleasant however service was slow an inconsistent - food was good as usual and atmosphere is nice but be prepared to stay a while. Desserts are lacking don't save room!"

  • "My husband and I rarely get out, so when we do we are looking forward to be able to talk. The food at Tamari is always very good; our service was excellent. However, when we made our reservation, we had requested to be seated at a table that was not right up against another couple, as we had been our previous time to the Lawrenceville location. They ended up seating us in a quiet room, not the main dining area. Unfortunately, the room was very brightly lit (not my preference) and we were very close to another two-top again. Without the background noise of the restaurant, it was awkward to try to hold a conversation so close to other couples. I was disappointed to spend $130 on a meal and not enjoy the experience as much as possible."

  • "Great food, easy to get to, and easy to get into on short notice. Good bar/cocktails, though not really a bar scene. Service generally is very good. 4* this time only because our waiter was a bit too laid back and not too smooth. We actually thought he was a lot of fun, but I think a lot of people would have expected a more polished level of service at a restaurant like this. (In the past, it has been, so I think this only relates to one individual!)"

  • "I had such a lovely night here for my birthday. The waiter went out of his way to make my night special, and treated my date and me to 2 complimentary small plates and champagne w/ churros for dessert. I would love to come back again. Have only been once before for 1/2 off night, which was also great. Can't wait to try out the brunch!"

  • "We love going to Tamari! The food is consistently excellent - a perfect blend of Asian and Latin cuisine. The sushi is amazing! I love having the option of small plates so you can try multiple dishes. My only complaint is that sometimes the service is slow but for the most part the staff is polite and accommodating."

  • "They consistently get it right here. Service is always excellent - and friendly. Food is great, especially love the Angry Lobster and Sexy Dragon rolls. A bit pricey, so we always try to find any deals we can ($20 for $40 worth of food, etc.). If the prices came down or I found more deals, I'd probably eat here every week."

  • "We tried Tamari for the first time this past Saturday (February 15th). Had a number of dishes including the Guacamole (which I normally don't like but their's was fresh and was fantastic) the Robata sampler (which was good, but we both agreed we would not get again and would instead order the Robata by the skewer from now on), the grilled romaine (this was the low point of the evening, would not get again. Just not our cup of tea) The Tamari Roll and the Sexy dragon roll (both were *fantastic*) and ended the night with the churros from the desert menu. When we come back, we will definitely be bringing friends."

  • "Reserved with OpenTable. Reservations accurate on arrival. Immediately seated. Waiter immediately at our side. Watered. Drinks came out. First round of sake was not hot enough but second was perfect. Appetizers were perfect. Sushi and Sashimi plate as always excellent in taste and presentation. Basically, Tamari does a great job of service and food preparation. Importantly this was Valentine's day and a Friday thus the client load increased a lot after for early 5 pm arrival. They management has staffed up accordingly -- not a bump in service do to understaffing. The mark of a mature orientation toward reputation building and long term reputation maintenance. Yes, will be going back -- soon I hope."

  • "This was our third or fourth visit to Tamari. We like it because we can "mix and match" small plates. This visit, we especially enjoyed the tuna tartare, the quail eggs wrapped in bacon, and the grilled romaine salad. The service was a little slow, but it was Valentine's Day and the restaurant probably had a larger crowd than usual. In addition, they were offering both a special, fixed menu and the regular menu. But our waiter was very pleasant and efficient. I have noticed after several visits that their desserts are nothing to shout about. Better to order a few small plates and then get dessert at the coffeehouse in the same complex."

  • "Have dined here before on 3-4 occasions. The service was horrible despite not many people dining in the restaurant. I now know why there were so few people there"

  • "We have been to Tamari several times; the other night was for a birthday. Sushi plate -- done correctly and presented correctly. Hot sake -- hot to the table as it is supposed to be. Macaroni dish -- odd but this is a new style apparently. Very buttery and tasty. Seated quickly; set reservations ahead via open table; even the special instructions were understood (comments area in open table). Chef gave use a treat which was unexpected but very considerate. Bill done accurately. Waitress managed many tables exceedingly well. Kudo's. A pleasant, mature dining experience. Overall, this is a must go to place for sushi. The bar area is nice as well. Been there one time. Bartender engaged in his craft."

  • "I took my sushi loving son for his birthday dinner. The selection isn't as big as you would find in larger cities, but what they did have was fantastic. The service was excellent from start to finish."

  • "Initially we were seated in the bar, to wait for our table. Fortunately the wait was only about 15 minutes because we couldn't get anyone's attention to order drinks or anything else. First round of martinis were ice water but after complaining got much better. Service in the dining room was great, and the food was pretty good too!!"

  • "My Fiance and I have visited Tamari many times for their wonderful happy hours! They always have the tastiest drinks, tapas, and sushi. We decided to go during Pittsburgh restaurant week and sit in the dining area. It was quite crowded but the server was very nice and apologized for any delay due to the crowds. We both had the prix-fixe three course dinner and thought it was phenomenal. We love this restaurant and can't wait to go back again."

  • "Dinner at Tamari Saturday evening was a real disappointment. The food was subpar. We ordered the Robata sampler to start and it was overcooked. Most disturbing was the salmon portion tasted "fishy" , not at all fresh plus it was overcooked. The other selections were underwhelming as well. I used to love the Lawerenceville location was thrilled when they opened in Warrendale. I have been open and have visited many times since the opening walking away underwhelmed - this was my final visit. What a missed opportunity for good food in the Cranberry area."

  • "Finally--a restaurant that has a special menu for Vegetarians and will accomadate Vegans (and I don't mean by serving pasta options! We had a wonderful meal--mushrooms with watercress (yum!), the vegetarian fried rice (a generous, delicous portion)--and an amazing dish with white beans and roasted brussel spouts. While a past favorite (giganic mushroom kabob) was off the menu for the season, causing us initial disappointment, the dishes we had more than compensated. WE WILL CERTAINLY BE BACK!"

  • "This was our second visit to Tamari, and we got similar food to the first time: the Naruto roll and the Robata sampler. We also got the tuna tartare and the chocolate tart. The Naruto roll is delicious and refreshing. The cucumber adds a great crunch and light taste to the sushi. The Robata sampler is so good! I love the salmon and the beef. The quail eggs with bacon are also really great - the whole sampler is good. The tuna tartare was pretty good, although the spiciness was surprising. The chocolate tart is AMAZING. So good, with an amazing heat. Have it with the cafe caribe. Spicy goodness! The drinks are also fantastic at Tamari - I would recommend any on their cocktail list, and their beer list is great. Overall, a great time!"

  • "Great service and unique menu make this a consistently outstanding spot in the North Hills. Loved everything we had and can't wait to try some of the other great fusion dishes we saw on the menu. Service was spot on. They even went out of their way to help look for a lost necklace. Will return."

  • "Wanted to treat sushi-loving friends to a great meal; exceeded our expectation! Novel presentation of super fresh ingredients, from the guacamole and edamame starters to pho ga and fish tacos to fresher-than-fresh naruto, and a spicy chocolate tart that made you want to lick the plate! Despite a noisy pre-holiday bar scene, our booth lent itself to intimate, strain-free conversation. Only complaint--the straight backed booth seating is stiff and uncomfortable; pillows behind the back would help. Casual but attentive service, glasses stayed filled. We'll be back soon!"

  • "My wife and I got together with some, good friends. This was our first time dining at the Warrendale location. We have been to the original Lawrenceville location many times. We enjoyed a few drinks at the bar and then sat down for dinner. We ordered a variety of things from the menu including calamari, lobster and Korean short ribs. Everything was delicious. We look forward to dining at Tamari again in the future."
