The bar provides a great pre-dining setting with a good choice of draft ales, bottled beers and well drinks. Then available large round tables in one of the dining rooms allows for continued conversation while enjoying perfectly prepared prime rib with a good selection of wines to choose from. We brought a relative who was visiting from Europe for the first time here because of the old world charm & atmosphere as well as the wonderful prime rib. There is only one other restaurant that I know of in the Los Angeles area that can claim to be this old and still have a good reputation for high-quality food and service. The service at the Tam o' Shanter is always top-notch and the food, though not avant-guard or trendy, is always reliably well-prepared with high-quality ingredients. It is definitely more comfort food than nouvelle cuisine but a welcome throwback in this age of culinary experimentation and tapas-sized portions that are found elsewhere.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI was a bit disappointed withI was a bit disappointed with the limited fish choices on the Sunday lunch menu. Had not been recently and found the menu changed without some of my favorites. The filet steak was generous and prepared just as ordered. It was served on top of a minimal amount of green beans and small roasted potatoes. I thought they could have been more generous with these items. The wine was the smallest amount I have ever been served in wine by the glass. For serious carnivores like us, their excellent prime rib selections with the traditional sides of Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes & gravy and choice of creamed corn or spinach make it difficult to stray tot he other wonderful menu offerings & specials, but we sometimes do -- Toad in the Hole, Fish & Chips and many other less-traditional and delicious items. Love the Scottish-themed decor and don't miss their holiday events and the extra-special Christmas decorations and Dickens-costumed carolers. I like it better than Lawry's (same company) because the place looks like an old Tudor home, decorated with lots of Scottish touches.
