Diner Reviews
  • "Loved the food, the place, and the waiter. Great experience. Even though we were stuffed and didn't want dessert they still brought out a little something to send us off with."

  • "charming in every aspect- food, service, environment. I've dined here several times- repeatable quality"

  • "First time going! Food was awesome. Service was great and drinks were very good. Not too pricey. Good for a date!"

  • "I live in the neighborhood and have been here many times. When it first opened, the food was unparalleled. My last couple of experiences were lack-luster. Everything we ordered was a bit bland. For the prices, I expect to be wowed. It's still one of my favorite places to dine; Stellar service, great wine list, great atmosphere, and superb cheese platters. However, folks in the kitchen need a wake up call. "

  • "We adored Talula's Garden! We traveled from DC for a weekend jaunt. When we visit, we try to never go the same place twice, as there's such an abundance of wonderful restaurants in Philly. But this place was extra special, extra-wonderful. We might have to make it a point to dine here every time we visit. Beautiful setting, gracious service, astounding deliciousness."

  • "We went to Talula's for a celebratory dinner (my wife and I). The experience was average at best. At the table we were not able to hear each other - the noise level was something akin to being at a football stadium just after a touchdown. We had our table changes to a more 'quiet' area - still loud but bearable. My duck breast was nicely presented and the confit was delicious but the breast was totally bland, even the glaze was essentially without distinguishing taste. My wife's wild striped bass was also a disappointment - quite bland and undistinguished. All and all a disappointment in what was supposed to be a special dinner (and the bill of $130 (with wine) was no help!"

  • "My wife and I went for our 10 yr anniversary. The service was impeccable, the food was complex, flavorful, and plentiful. The cheese plates have amazing selection and a very educated presents the options. A great experience overall. If there is one critique it would be the seating. There are very few tables that just 2 people can sit at. Close quarters made us feel like we were dining with strangers at times. We would definitely go back. "

  • "Food arrived after a looooong interval lukewarm. Sent back and came back lukewarm. Was otherwise good. "

  • "Talula's Garden was a fantastic spot for brunch - the restaurant, including the bathroom - was absolutely adorable! The food was amazing and the service was exceptional! Definitely looking forward to going back to try dinner and their outside seating!"

  • "If you arrive earlier than your reservationyou are directed to the outside bar to wait. However there were 20 mph winds so not a good option. Anyway we waited there for about 10 min. and then checked if we could be seated. The main room is very noisy but we sat near the indoor bar which was quieter and had a beautiful view. Service was slow (not the waiter, the actual food) but eventually the manager advised there was an issue in the kitchen. After we ordered desserts we were told they were on the house due to the delay. It's nice but I don't see what all the fuss is about with the locally grown/organic label. Food was fine but nothing spectacular. Basic feel was it's a little pretentious...but maybe I'm just old school."

  • "I waited a long time to come to Talula's and it was definitely worth the wait! The service was excellent and every dish we had was absolutely phenomenal. I already want to go back!"

  • "This might be my favorite place for brunch. The people watching was fun. We had the duck turnovers for an appetizer and they were delicious. My husband had the breakfast burger and I had the fritatta and both were exceptional. The potatoes were great. We had the donut appetizer for our dessert and nothing disappointed us. My Bloody Mary was spicy and excellent. We will definitely return."

  • "I enjoy dining…as much as anybody, don't think i expected to be rushed, but we only ordered fish, not sure why it took so long. The server knew it too was very attentive and sent over extra tastings. Food is always excellent, just noticing, and happened last time too, orders coming out of the kitchen at a snails pace."

  • "First time at Talula's and we were totally impressed by the whole experience. We were seated right away and we chose to eat inside as it was a bit windy and a little chilly in the garden, though outside was quite crowded. We had a quiet spot in the corner and really enjoyed dinner. Warm rolls served with onion butter melted in your mouth. My husband started out with the Foie Gras, very good. My scallops were prepared perfectly seared on the outside and tender on the inside. His pork chop with clams and grits were just as splendid. Service was spot on without being intrusive as some places can be. Dessert of pistachio ice cream & biscotti was the perfect ending. Looking forward to next time so we can try some of the other menu choices."

  • "Wonderful dinner, fantastic setting, and terrific service! Talula's Garden hit all the right notes with their tasting menu. It was amazing from start (fluke crudo w/citrus) to finish (a decadent chocolate morsel with salted caramel). And the small things rang high notes too - a shout out to the house made ricotta crostini and the brioche with Spring onion butter. The service was attentive, without being stuffy. The atmosphere is "upscale, relaxed, and energetic," Truly on of the best meals I've had. If you are ever in the Philadelphia area, you should go! Definitely worth the splurge."

  • "We have been to Tulula's a few times and have always left feeling happy and satisfied. The food is top notch and is presented with gourmet artistry. The staff should be included in my review as well. They are knowledgeable and very attentive. We look forward to our next visit!"

  • "This is quite a nice place for a special occasion dinner. I love the rustic ambiance that is the motif of the entire place. Food was good, clean and simple. I wasn't particularity blown away by anything--but I loved the simplicity of the bright spring flavors."

  • "This was my first visit to Tulula's Garden. The food was amazing especially the cinnamon donuts. The ambiance was energetic, fun, and full of life. We want to come back again and sit outside on the patio. Would recommend for a great brunch with friends and family."

  • "Such a nice place with extremely great service and food."

  • "in the Philadelphia restaurant scene. Philadelphia has great restaurants but it's the extremely rare combination that Talula's Garden brings that reminds me what a stunningly great meal can be like. Every aspect of our dinner (a date night with my wife) was wholly spot-on and we both left remembering what it is like to truly enjoy a meal. The service was more like having a butler than a waitress and she showed genuine care in our choices and food issues (my allergies). And each course was enjoyable without a miss. Seriously, the cheesecake dessert was stupidly good - not traditional - but stupidly good and potentially the best we have ever eaten."

  • "This was our second time at Talula's Garden and it was just as good the second time around. Service was prompt, fun waitstaff, friendly and very helpful. Food is well prepared, inventive combinations of tastes and textures. We really enjoyed the cheese plate and asked to take the menu home to find those cheeses again. Atmosphere is a bit bohemian with nice touches such as mason jars with candles on the table and plates that look as though they were hand made. It would be hard to find a place we like as much in Philadelphia!"

  • "My Husband and I were lucky enough to get a table on rather short notice, unfortunately it was too cold for the Garden; however, we were provided with a wonderful view of Washington Square Park. Upon recommendation from the amazing server, Abigail, we opted for the tasting menu and 3 HOURS LATER, we left satisfied with favorite new food items to try elsewhere. My Husband also did the wine pairing, and Josh was fantastic in providing great detail about the wine and why it was chosen for each course. I cannot wait for a new season to try the next tasting menu."

  • "It was spectacular. It's amazing how fast one realizes within a bite or two that you've moved to a whole different plateau and are in the presence of food greatness. That occurred at Talula's Garden. Only four or five times in my life have I been in a truly great restaurant like that. One is simply bowled over. Between us we had seven different items from the menu - Watercress Soup, Crostini of Chicken Liver Mousse, Smokey Pork Pate, Seared Scallops, Mediterranean Lamb Tabbouleh and Rhubarb Glazed Duck, followed by Chocolate Parade dessert - we all had the same reaction to every one of them - great pleasure. Very pleasant terra-cotta coloured dining room, and attentive service throughout. We are already talking of our return visit."

  • "Menu had good variety, server was very pleasant and helpful, presentation was excellent. Good food, prepared well. Will be back. Not a restaurant for wine snobs or quiet romantic dinner."

  • "My daughter and I took my husband here for a birthday dinner. It was a very good experience. Ambiance was warm and inviting. Food was amazing and the service was excellent. We happened to be seated near the bar, which became a little noisy when a large group converged to wait for their table. However, the staff was very apologetic and was able to seat them pretty quickly. We would definitely go again."

  • "Second time we've been to Talula's Garden and were not disappointed. Food and service were great with staff that was attentive and knowledgeable. Portions were a good size and we were more than filled with an appetizer and main course each and one side that we shared. Wine list was very good both by the bottle and the glass. They have a very nice selection of cheese samplers that we didn't have room for. The tasting menu at $100 per is probably worth it for those with a large appetite. Only downsides were that my duck was medium/medium-well instead of the described medium-rare and the noise level was fairly high, although not overwhelming. We will definitely be back."

  • "The food is great. Four of us had different dinners and all delicious. Very fresh ingredients and wonderful taste. Service and atmosphere are both excellent. I highly recommend."

  • "We had the tasting menu and the wine tasting menu. The food was wonderful. My wife and I both got to try a few items that we had never had before. I enjoyed the citrus cured fluke, foie gras, rye fazzioletti, and NY strip with sweetbreads. The ricotta was good but not overwhelming, the stripped bass was OK, but just good not great. There were some great cheeses to be had and a killer panna cotta followed by a chocolate mousse bar. You may think the portion sizes are small but prepare for more food than you can handle over all the courses. The wines were well paired with each course. I preferred the reds over the whites but I always prefer the reds. The pour sizes were very nice."

  • "My wife and I came here for her birthday. (We'd had a wonderful brunch here as well some weeks ago but wanted to visit for dinner. The only problem with the meal was that she kept interrupting it to exclaim "Wow, this is the best dish I've EVER had". She had a new duck recipe featuring rhubarb and several root vegetables. I was equally impressed with a Mediterranean lamb shoulder dish. Bottom line, the cooking is fabulous and innovative. It's not the same old same old. Go!"

  • "Pretty space, nice service. Food was pretty and good but not spectacular. Was hoping for more for prices charged. Too much watercress on each plate and too many menus to pursue but very nice evening and food was well prepared. Table was not balanced and spent evening trying to make sure table wasn't wobbling."

  • "I went here with my boyfriend for a celebratory brunch, and really all there is to say is that Talula's is the best. An innovative, wonderfully short, and seasonal menu make it a place I will return to again and again"

  • "My wife and I are both vegan, and even though this is not a vegan restaurant they were able to accommodate our dietary needs with no problem. The server notified the chef of our request to prepare something with no meat or dairy and came back saying that not only would the chef be happy to do so, but that he was excited to have the opportunity. The chef prepared two different salads as a starter which were out of this world. We were able to share each salad so we both experienced what may have been the best salad that I ever had. The vegetable meal that was prepared as an entree was out of this world. the ingredients were noticeably fresh and were prepared to perfection. The service was out of this world. I"
