Diner Reviews
  • "After a disastrous meal at City Tavern we were skeptical of rankings of restaurants however Talula's Garden was a delight and surpassed its ranking. The service was impeccable, the beer selection perfect (Lost Abbey) and the food the freshest and most beautifully presented. Our special requests of dressings on the side were honored, the warm complimentary brioche were delightful and my only wish would have been a more simple dessert selection. Gelato with chocolate sauce and a cookie would have made a perfect ending. The chicken under the brick was delectable, the pork belly was rich and decadent, moist with a crispy skin. The beets and ricotta were memorable. Thank you Talula for a fabulous meal."

  • "We had a Sunday brunch to celebrate a birthday. The waiter was very helpful by giving additional descriptions of the dishes. The service was prompt too. There were four of us and we each had a different dish. The were all excellent."

  • "Talula's was recommended to us by a local friend. What a fantastic choice! For starters, the place is very cute. The service was great, too! Now, let's talk food...It was so fresh and delicious, I couldn't get enough. I had their hand made pasta, which was to die for.I had a Pinot Gris (A to Z, white whine)which was fabulous. The cherry on the cake was the AMAZEBALLS sticky bun for dessert. You MUST have it!! Definitely a place I would go back to,if I lived in Philly!"

  • "The food was fantastic as was the drink menu. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is beautiful, though a little crowded and therefore it can get noisy. I'm a little disappointed that I had requested an outdoor table in my OpenTable reservation and they were unable to accommodate me. I think the outdoor area would have really put the experience over the top."

  • "We started with a cheese course and a pairing wine recommended by Corey, our waiter. It was delicious. My husband and I shared a 1/2 portion of pasta, zucchini salad and scallops. All were prepared VERY WELL and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal."

  • "The lights and the flower boxes make Talula's Garden my favorite outdoor dining spot in all of Philadelphia. Unfortunately on a recent visit, the food was very disappointing. We started with the mushroom soup which was unbearably salty, and a salad with far too much dressing. I opted for the chicken entree which was well presented, but the caper sauce was also excessively salty. The friendly service and ambiance at this restaurant are exceptional so I would like to give it another try."

  • "This place is fantastic. The food is amazing and it a beautiful place. We had brunch and every mouthful was delicious. And this is a place where you can come with your vegetarian and meat eating friends and everyone will be in heaven."

  • "We had not been to Talulah's since a year ago and we enjoyed it then. But the menu, portion sizes and flavors have improved greatly since then. We have always enjoyed Talulah's for its menu and ambiance but I always felt it was a littl pricey and the portions small but typical for a foodie type restaurant so we only went on special occasions. But this time the appetizers were much larger which almost filled us up before even having our entree. I asked the waiter about the size of the steak since I suspected it would be a tiny portion. But he explained they have a new chef and the portion has now gone from 5 1/2 oz to 7 oz. Worth every bite and the price was reasonable at $30. The only thing I feel is still overpriced is the alcohol."

  • "This was our second time and again, the food and service were wonderful. I enjoyed the crab salad, and we split the cheese course. Both the eggs Benedict and crepes were very, very good. Service was fine. I also was glad they had valet parking."

  • "Delicious from the cheese boards and appetizers through to dessert. Expensive, but worth it for those who savor fine dining. Excellent and knowledgeable staff. Beautiful space indoors and out."

  • "We sat bye the window on the bar side. It felt over crowded & obtrusive. There are four tables when there should only be three. Waiters don't have room to stand next to the table without bumbing into you, your unavoidably overhearing strangers conversations. If felt like an overpriced diner bacause of the seating experience. It's not worth the extra revenue to pack people like sardines into tiny tables."

  • "My daughter and I went there pre-theater and were so pleased! The service was attentive and knowledgable. She recommended a PA blush wine that was dry and wonderful - who knew? Salads were fresh and crisp. Zucchini and summer squash salad was unusual and a real treat! My daughter had Chicken Under a Brick, which was so tender and flavorful. Foie Gras mousse was incredible as my entree! Overall, just a wonderful experience!"

  • "Food was very good but we sat at a table behind the communal large table and it was so loud that I could not hear myself think."

  • "I love Talula's, live in the neighborhood and am a frequent patron. On this evening however, service kind of stunk; slow start to finish. They asked what kind of water we wanted and then it took 15 minutes before they filled our glasses with tap. Long lulls between courses and finished course plates sat waiting to be cleared way too long. Not sure why everything was off....for a steamy Monday, patio was pretty full, so maybe they had more guests thank expected outside and were under staffed. Food great...loved to charred string beans. I also feel wines by the glass are a pretty short pour."

  • "Service was extremely slow. Dinner for two took over 3 hours. Very disappointed, although the food was good. Street parking is metered with a 2-hour limit. We had to get up and re-feed the meter while we waited for our food. We were celebrating my wife's birthday, which I had specifically noted at the time I made the reservation. The wait staff failed to recognize the special occasion. Overall, not a great experience for our first time dining at Talula's Garden."

  • "The food was good but overpriced for what you got. Service wasn't what it should have been considering the price. Coffee was $5.00 for a small mug and I had to ask for refills. We had a reservation but still had to wait for a table - even though half the restaurant was empty. We won't be back."

  • "We had a really amazing experience dining here. We had cheese platter and grilled asparagus for our starters. It was very very good and fresh. I had scallops for my main course and my bf had pork belly, we also had cheesecake for dessert. the food was incredible and I would definitely come back. We had a really great night, the bartender Veena was funny, friendly, professional and knew the menu well! The drink menu was impressive as well."

  • "Food was superb, waiter was fantastic (he overheard it was my birthday and brought a special dessert), but the noise level, and a slightly less than warm welcome from the greeter brought the stars down from 5 to 4."

  • "My wife tried to get a reservation many times prior to no avail. But for our anniversary we managed to get a table - and it was worth the wait! The food was excellent, our server was great, and they adjusted our menu for our gluten free diet. Cannot wait to go back."

  • "The food and service were top notch but the noise level was extreme and virtually overpowered the positive elements. Because of the threatened rain, our party dined inside. If I return,I would only want to be seated in the garden."

  • "Amazing! Our waiter Gillian was so knowledgable and helped us pick the best items on the menu as we wanted them all! The dessert is out of this world. The s'mores cake is to die for!"

  • "Overall good experience. Food was excellent and the service was great. Only complaint is that even after having a reservation during the later evening hours there was still no outdoor seating available unless you were willing to wait an hour and a half, and a approximately 30 minutes for inside even with a reservation. Regardless I would still return here for dinner."

  • "I visit Philly quite a bit for business and have just found my favorite neighborhood restaurant. Great food. Great ambiance. Only thing I could think to improve would be the wine list, but that's just being a bit picky. Wait staff was great and allowed us to have a great business dinner while being respectful of good times to break in to the conversation. Great concept. Highly recommend."

  • "One more time, we had a great dinner experience at Talula's Garden, mainly thanks to the quality of the cuisine. Apart from what is deliciously in your plate, the decor is enjoyable and nicely thought through. The service is very friendly and professional."

  • "I am all about the visual and ambiance to accompany my food. I can create a great dish in my pjs and be comfortable so when I go out, Im going for a certain 'mood'. Talula's looks JUST LIKE the pics, I luv the garden and the interior. My dish was amazing, my drink wasn't watered down and I was in great company. I only wish they didn't shut down the kitchen during certain hours though. I feel like sometimes, you might wanna grab a second bite if you've been sitting and chatting so that wasn't so hot... Overall, I give this place a 9--taking off a point for closing the kitchen down"

  • "Though we never did see a sign for Talula's Table, it was easy enough to find on Washington Square. We were seated in the garden on a spectacularly beautiful June evening. From the moment we were welcomed, to the final farewells, the staff could not have been more pleasant or accommodating without being stand-offish. The food was beautifully prepared, farm to table fresh and interesting, and incredibly delicious. Portions were perfect; not too big and not too small. Wine Service was excellent. The scallops and Block Island swordfish were delicious. It really felt like Sonoma or rural France in Phillly."
