Diner Reviews
  • "Wonderful food and service. Lovely atmosphere. We'll definitely be back."

  • "there're is nothing better than a well orchestrated staff. Talula's Garden is a symphony of service considering the runners that serve your food are able to describe the contents of your dish. My favorite NO AUCTION, they know who ordered what dish. Some of the best food I have eaten comes with the auction, awful. The steak Tatar was as good as I have eaten a great blend of spices with tremendous quality beef. Looking forward to returning for dinner."

  • "The ambiance was amazing with the outdoor space, particularly since it was a cool and nice evening."

  • "Talula's garden never fails to impress!! but brunch was a wonderful surprise. The homemade English Muffins, the amazing home made cream cheese, savory mushrooms in my breakfast strudel. Everything was just great!!"

  • "I took my wife for her birthday. Food was great! Wait staff was attentive, yet not obtusive. I dont write reviews, but Talula's was so good I had to!"

  • "Awesome. Every bite was full of flavor from the cheese tray to the dinner, including the wines. Really a great combination of Talula's attention to local and fresh with Steven Starr's attention to setting and scene. Really worth a visit."

  • "It was a fabulous experience! Harris our waiter had an abundance amount of information. The service was quick and efficient from the waiter to the busboy. Compliments to the chef's."

  • "I highly recommend Talula's Garden. It was a great dining experience!"

  • "Love this little gem, just wish the entrees were a teeny tiny bit larger - not much and I know it's not "in fashion" to want huge, hulking portions, but most men will leave just a tad hungry even if ordering an app, entree, and dessert."

  • "Great restaurant. Great service. We went on a rainy night and sat inside. Drinks were delicious. The tuna appetizer with watermelon was great. My scallops were as good as I have ever had. My wife's lamb meatballs unfortunately were just gross. And I love lamb. They were served basically at room temp; they did not taste that great, and the sauce they were served in requires a more sophisticated palate than mine. The dessert with sweet corn ice cream was fantastic. So avoid the lamb meatballs when going to this great place."

  • "We took a long time deciding what we wanted because the menu was full of amazing options. When we asked for a recommendation from the person who delivered our drinks, it ended up being a manger and he gave great suggestions. The cocktails were flavorful and unique, the cheese board perfectly paired, and our entrees were well cooked, executed perfectly, and bursting with flavor. Our waitress was patient while we were choosing, though still attentive, and service was fantastic."

  • "We sat outside in the garden for a Sunday dinner. The temperature was close 90 at 7 M but the breeze coming through the garden was lovely. I really liked the ambiance and the wait staff. I will return soon. My new favorite in downtown Philly."

  • "Impressed from the moment we walked in. The hostess, wait staff, and busers were all friendly and effecient. Their brunch menu has many options and I don't think anyone would be sorry no matter what you decide on."

  • "Where do you take a friend who's visiting from San Francisco who's a world traveller and has eaten at many of the best restaurants around the world? You take them here. Talula's Garden breaks the mold of what people assume food will be like in Philly. I've never dined here before and it was a risk, especially given we'd just come off eating in New York City at Gramercy Park Hotel's Maliano's -- an amazing restaurant. Talula's didn't disappoint. The food was fresh, delicious and although the service was slow to start, it picked up and got much better. Wine was fabulous and we dined for hours enjoying all aspects of the place. Don't worry if you don't get seated in the garden too. It doesn't matter. The inside is fab as well."

  • "Wonderful experience. Service, food and decor inside and out. Seated on time with smiling faces. The new bus guy were not paying attention to the beverage I was drinking. The only one at the table. He was filling glasses without thinking first. Abigal immediately corrected him. Returning once again."

  • "Went on our wedding anniversary. The place is great for a special occasions. The food and service was off the hook. They even did a little something for our anniversary. You have to try the cheese plat. It was so good we got two of them."

  • "Had dinner there before show at Walnut Street Theater. Arrived and 6pm and despite the short amount of time we had to eat, the staff were very accommodating, the food wonderfully prepared and presented, and we had a simply wonderful experience. Will return again when we can spend more time."

  • "Highly recommend this restaurant for its first class service, delicious food and magical ambiance. The food is all locally grown and sourced and is wonderfully fresh. Only caveat is that the food and drinks are a bit pricey so would consider dining here for special occasions. Our waiter, Harris, was the best waiter we've had in a long time; a consummate professional."

  • "The little brioches were fabulous, as was most of the meal. The trout was meaty and delicious. The ricotta donuts were custardy, quite wonderful."

  • "Food was great! The service by our waiter was the worst I've had in a long time. He told us he was training, but no one was helping him. My husband wanted to order a side and the waiter talked him out of it. He told him it would be too much food to eat. It was cucumbers! When he finished his drink, instead of asking if he'd like another, he just silently picked up the empty glass and left! I had to flag him down to order a glass of wine. Took 15 minutes to get. He barely spoke to us. Just dropped the dessert menus down on our table without asking if we even wanted dessert. Never even asked if we wanted coffee or anything! We saw a table get seated after us ut leave before we got our entree! I probably won't be back soon."

  • "After a disastrous meal at City Tavern we were skeptical of rankings of restaurants however Talula's Garden was a delight and surpassed its ranking. The service was impeccable, the beer selection perfect (Lost Abbey) and the food the freshest and most beautifully presented. Our special requests of dressings on the side were honored, the warm complimentary brioche were delightful and my only wish would have been a more simple dessert selection. Gelato with chocolate sauce and a cookie would have made a perfect ending. The chicken under the brick was delectable, the pork belly was rich and decadent, moist with a crispy skin. The beets and ricotta were memorable. Thank you Talula for a fabulous meal."

  • "The lights and the flower boxes make Talula's Garden my favorite outdoor dining spot in all of Philadelphia. Unfortunately on a recent visit, the food was very disappointing. We started with the mushroom soup which was unbearably salty, and a salad with far too much dressing. I opted for the chicken entree which was well presented, but the caper sauce was also excessively salty. The friendly service and ambiance at this restaurant are exceptional so I would like to give it another try."

  • "This was our second time and again, the food and service were wonderful. I enjoyed the crab salad, and we split the cheese course. Both the eggs Benedict and crepes were very, very good. Service was fine. I also was glad they had valet parking."

  • "This place is fantastic. The food is amazing and it a beautiful place. We had brunch and every mouthful was delicious. And this is a place where you can come with your vegetarian and meat eating friends and everyone will be in heaven."

  • "The food was fantastic as was the drink menu. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is beautiful, though a little crowded and therefore it can get noisy. I'm a little disappointed that I had requested an outdoor table in my OpenTable reservation and they were unable to accommodate me. I think the outdoor area would have really put the experience over the top."

  • "We had a Sunday brunch to celebrate a birthday. The waiter was very helpful by giving additional descriptions of the dishes. The service was prompt too. There were four of us and we each had a different dish. The were all excellent."

  • "We started with a cheese course and a pairing wine recommended by Corey, our waiter. It was delicious. My husband and I shared a 1/2 portion of pasta, zucchini salad and scallops. All were prepared VERY WELL and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal."

  • "Always an excellent meal with unique creations. It's nice to see an inventive chef who knows how to create unique combinations. Always a great experience."

  • "We sat bye the window on the bar side. It felt over crowded & obtrusive. There are four tables when there should only be three. Waiters don't have room to stand next to the table without bumbing into you, your unavoidably overhearing strangers conversations. If felt like an overpriced diner bacause of the seating experience. It's not worth the extra revenue to pack people like sardines into tiny tables."

  • "My daughter and I went there pre-theater and were so pleased! The service was attentive and knowledgable. She recommended a PA blush wine that was dry and wonderful - who knew? Salads were fresh and crisp. Zucchini and summer squash salad was unusual and a real treat! My daughter had Chicken Under a Brick, which was so tender and flavorful. Foie Gras mousse was incredible as my entree! Overall, just a wonderful experience!"

  • "Talula's was recommended to us by a local friend. What a fantastic choice! For starters, the place is very cute. The service was great, too! Now, let's talk food...It was so fresh and delicious, I couldn't get enough. I had their hand made pasta, which was to die for.I had a Pinot Gris (A to Z, white whine)which was fabulous. The cherry on the cake was the AMAZEBALLS sticky bun for dessert. You MUST have it!! Definitely a place I would go back to,if I lived in Philly!"

  • "I love Talula's, live in the neighborhood and am a frequent patron. On this evening however, service kind of stunk; slow start to finish. They asked what kind of water we wanted and then it took 15 minutes before they filled our glasses with tap. Long lulls between courses and finished course plates sat waiting to be cleared way too long. Not sure why everything was off....for a steamy Monday, patio was pretty full, so maybe they had more guests thank expected outside and were under staffed. Food great...loved to charred string beans. I also feel wines by the glass are a pretty short pour."

  • "Service was extremely slow. Dinner for two took over 3 hours. Very disappointed, although the food was good. Street parking is metered with a 2-hour limit. We had to get up and re-feed the meter while we waited for our food. We were celebrating my wife's birthday, which I had specifically noted at the time I made the reservation. The wait staff failed to recognize the special occasion. Overall, not a great experience for our first time dining at Talula's Garden."
