The menu was varied and the food was very good, and reasonably priced for a "hip" eatery. The cheese grits were particularly tasty, and came in a huge portion. The bacon was some of the best I've ever had. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The place was fairly busy, but the noise level was not annoying. I loved the ambiance on the previous occasion: it was quiet and candle-lit, surrounded by wine and heavy wooden furniture. Unfortunately, we didn't find that same ambiance on this occasion. There was a large group that was quite loud, and so every other pair of diners had to raise their volume to be heard. It was almost like a cafeteria. I'm guessing it all depends on which night you go. If you want quiet ambiance, go on a Sunday night, as we did for our first experience. What a treat!
It is always a pleasure to visit and we had a wonderful meal, getting a special plate made for us "since we were at the Chef's Table". How cool is that??? We got to view the symphony that is a restaurant kitchen on a busy night and experience a delicious meal.

Tallula is a solid restaurant with very good quality food. I typically get seafood and I have had both the Flounder and the Scallops, both of which were cooked to perfection. The service is always good and the wine list is ample, with plenty of reasonably priced selections. My only knock is that the cheese plate portions have been scaled back, but they are still delicious. Service is great, well knowledged on all their food and drink options, but varies a bit in terms of style.
The only drawback I see is, though the food is fantastic, the menu doesn't change often. The decor, not so much, but when you're enjoying the food, the service, and the excellent and eclectic wine list, that's not all that relevant. The menu is small, but offers enough diversity so that even the pickiest diner will find something to like. The roasted beet salad was a small gem, with the earthy sweetness of the beets offset by the contrasting microgreens. My pork loin was superb, perfectly cooked to medium/medium-rare and smoky and delicious from the grill. Honestly the best pork dish I can remember having in many years. I took my wife and children to celebrate her birthday there and we had a great time. This is a stylish restaurant that is not pretentious, with a diverse menu. My wife had the pork loin that was juicy, tasty, and paried with apples and other sides. I had the scallops - tasty. The kids had hot sausages from the bar menu. The after dinner donuts were decadent (very good!!).

We went during restaurant week, and the tasting menu was outstanding and very reasonably priced. The wine list is one of the most extensive and logically prepared I've seen in a long time.
