A word from Talavera Cocina Mexicana
Mexico.... home of Talavera, the unique fine art pottery from the 16th Century, native of the city of Puebla.
This genuine and refined Mexican spirit of the Talavera art sets the ground for the spirit of our menu. From the "Huarache" grill, a series of delicate dishes served on a corn tortilla base, to a variety of regional specialties from Sonora to Oaxaca, from Michoacan to Puebla, from Jalisco to Yucatan. Talavera, the art of a genuine and refined taste of Mexico.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "It is a beautiful place. They seated us right away. They brought still water without asking, which was great, and filled water glasses all around. The waiter recommended a passion fruit margarita, which was pretty good, the second one was more like Hawaiian Punch - did they forget to put in the tequila? We had a round table and with all the dishes and glasses etc it was very tight. Lots of passing back and forth and no place to set anything down. It was kind of hard to order because there was a mariachi band that was good, but loud. Cochinita pibil was by far the best entree. Quesadillas were bland. Stuffed fried poblano pepper was ok, too much blah tomato sauce surrounding it. Overall the food was underwhelming, but ok."

  • "One of the few real Mexican food places and a great spot in Coral Gables!"

  • "Some of the best Mexican food I've had anywhere, best in Miami. I would call it auhentic/upscale Mexican at reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere too. Only complaint is that they were very busy and seemed short of staff, so service was slow. Had to flag down the waiter...never came to see how things were going after taking our order."

  • "I love mexican food. This place serves a great variety of dishes. There is something for everyone. Dishes are very well presented and not as spicy as in Mexico. Quesos fundidos (melted cheeses) are to die for. The margaritas, excellent.Try the moles, they are one of a kind. In all, a gem!"

  • "Went there with a party of 10 for a bridal shower luncheon and the hostess and waitress were so kind and helpful. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the food is amazing! Be careful, the green salsa is SPICY lol The margaritas are awesome :)"

  • "I've been to this restaurant a few times. I really like the food and ambiance of the restaurant. However, service could and should be better to make the dinning experience complete."

  • "Great Food, but Restaurant does not want to credit you Open Table points. This has happened to us about 4 times. Sneaky Management and Front Staff."

  • "Great margaritas (many varieties- try pineapple-jalapeño or cilantro!) and excellent guacamole. The cochinita pibíl was too salty for me, but my husband loved it. Awesome chocolate cake, served alá mode with spiced almonds on the side. With a cortadito, n excellent ending to the meal. Would definitely return again anytime we are in the Miami area, even worth a special drive from 20-25 miles away."

  • "This was our first time at Talavera and were very impressed with the food, service and ambience. The wait staff was awesome and explained to us some of the dishes on the menu which we were not to sure of. Everything flowed from the time when we arrived until the time we left. We were not rushed or hurried in any way. I highly recommend this restaurant. We will return for another pleasant evening at Talavera."

  • "Excellent freshly prepared food. Stellar service. It was our first time eating here, and we will most definitely return. Deliciously authentic regional Mexican cuisine. This is not your average taco/burrito bar. The menu at Taravela reaches into Mexican culture, and history, to conjure up flavors that delight, and speak to it's rich heritage. To find a Mexican restaurant that's doing Mole's is not such a common task. Taravela's Mole is spectacular. The menu has a great range of choices. Fantastic!"

  • "Heard about this place from my husband's co-workers. So far their recommendations have been on point! The food here is authentic, flavorful and presented beautifully. I had the sabana de res which was good, though a little too much sauce for my taste (also wish the chicharron was on top so it remained crispy as opposed to soggy). Tried everyone a little of everyone's food which were all pretty good-tacos de carnitas, enfrioladas, Cochinita Pibil. Next time I want to try one of the Quesos Fundidos which I have read are delicious. Though my food was not my favorite I will definitely be back to try more as it is hard to find fresh, authentic mexican food in my part of town. Also-the guacamole is not to be missed!"

  • "I will never go to this restaurant again. It all started with the rude and inconsiderate behavior of the hostess. Extremely disappointed."

  • "Talavera could be a great restaurant if they professionalized their service and paid more attention to the customer. I've never had a professional server in Talavera, but this time, we had a terrible one. He was rude, kept interrupting rudely, would walk away in the middle of our questions, and would speak at the top of his voice when going around taking our orders. And when we needed something, including the check, we had to chase him by asking others in the staff. Sorry, but there are other Mexican restaurants in Miami that want to keep their customers. If you expect good service, this is not the restaurant to go to."

  • "This Restaurant does not honor Open Table. Service Level was so poor that we had to call the manager to get our Drinks two times. They did get a little busy on Friday night, but the waiter messed up the 2nd time - the last time we had the same waiter. The reception gals are busy watching facebook and catting online vs. attending to customers"

  • "Went with the kids for Valentines dinner. Everyone was happy. The food was delicious, the service was good and the ambiance was lively. The "flat breads" were outstanding. They are not what you would traditionally call a flat bread, they are a large meal. Outstanding experience all around."

  • "it was my second time there in a week. I went to celebrate mu birthaday with family, we were 11, and we have a very good time. Food was amazing and service was excellent. They just forgot to bring my classic tortilla soup (I love it) but it is ok, my "Sabana de carne" was to die for."

  • "I must say I was very disappointed with the service - our waiter literally forgot about us. We were a group of 8 with kids; the service was slow; we waited too long to order our drinks, then our meal, then our food took long to come out. In the meantime, the waiter was missing. We had to literally ask another waiter to call our waiter. We even asked other waiters for utensils and refills. Quality of food was good, but to my surprise the meal was small in comparison to the other meals, both with same cost. I have had great experiences with both food and service at Talavera many times before, it is one of my favorite places, I even hosted my baby shower here. My review is simply to point out that Service is very important."

  • "Very friendly service and excellent food! I went for lunch with 2 family members and we were thoroughly satisfied at the end of our meal. The waitress recommended an excellent cerviche to start, our food came out promptly afterwards and dessert was also a treat. I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in Miami."

  • "My spouse and I went there to celebrate my birthday. I am a vegetarian and did not want to go to another steak place. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his dinner and especially his ceviche appetizer. He ordered the large size and ate the entire portion himself. He raved about it so much. He travels quite a bit and has had wonderful meals all over the world but said this ceviche was most excellent. We thought out dinner selections were inventive and delicious. Not just your typical Mexican fare. The deserts were also really delicious. The only negative I can say is we had a hard time hearing each other. I don't believe it was especially loud in there I just think the acoustics were not that great."

  • "No complaints here! Everything came out on time and was delicious. Our party ordered the chile poblanos, enchilada suiza, and the beef tenderloin with grilled vegetables. It was delicious, well seasoned, and the portions were very generous. The desserts were fantastic; we tried the flan de queso, postre de chocolate abuelita, and the guava cheesecake, and finished everything. I would definitely recommend this place."

  • "This place would be a home run if the service was on par with the food…Waiter took the order, never saw him again. Runner brought the orders. Food was actually good, but water wasn't refilled, never got our second round of drinks. Manager and Pseudo manager come over and offer me a dessert to make up for the lack of service. Unfortunately there was no service at all and a dessert is a no go. So here is the riddle: If one orders a meal and it is sub par, should one pay full price for said meal?"

  • "This is my husband and my favorite Mexican restaurant in Miami. Location in Coral Gables is just off Miracle Mile (not so much of a miracle any longer). Food always good….margaritas. We normally get the queso flameado, shrimp cervice and the chicken with mole sauce. Absolutly wonderful. While the latino influence is obviously everywhere in Miami, it's hard to find good Mexican food. Try this place…you won't be disappointed. Service can run a little slow at times but nothing ofensive."

  • "The chefs are excellent. They have just the right blend for their sauces. The brunch items are delicious. The bus man made the experience better by watching for needs like water, tea, chips, and sauce. He is a great asset. The waiter was better on a previous visit."

  • "Talavera has done it correctly. We tasted the tlacoyos azules, the tortilla soup, the cochinita pibil, the crepas de cajeta, and the margaritas de tamarindo. First of all, this is the only place in Miami you'll find a tamarind margarita. Go. Now. All of the food was amazing - with the exception of the tlacoyos. The tlacoyo itself was nice, but there was a sauce on top remnant of ketchup that toned it down a little too much, in my book. The broth in the soup was so warming - the small portion is plenty to leave you warm and cozy inside before your main entree. Cochinita was great - love those pickled onions!!"

  • "I had the chuleta with cactus salad and it wasn't bad but just nothing special. My friends had tacos which were fine too. Ambiance was ok. This restaurant pales in comparison with the many excellent restaurants that surround it."

  • "My wife wanted to try a glass of Tequilla and ordered from a separate drink menu with No prices in it. When I got the check the glass cost $22. It was a premium brand and the more reason there should have been prices next to the drinks. Not everyone is a seasoned drinker and knows all the brands and their costs. The waiter was no help at all."

  • "Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Coral Gables! You can immediately tell the difference between Tex-Mex dishes and the dishes offered at Talavera. The ingredients they use are wonderfully fresh, and the herbs and spices they use are vividly tantalizing. This was my 2nd time dining at Tavalera (once for lunch, and this time for dinner),but I'm sure I'll be back again. The portions are so large that I had to take some of my meal home with me, and the food was so delicious that I wished that I could've sampled every item on the menu. The restaurant's decor is very unique."Talavera" is a style of pottery, and you will see huge urns and vases in the Talavera style which create an artistic atmosphere. My server,Vanesa V.,was awesome. I love Talavera! BRAVO!!"

  • "Talavera Cocina Mexicana in Coral Gables,FL is exquisite. They impressed me in every aspect of their operation (beautiful decor, immaculate appearance, wonderful ambiance, large portions,authentically-spiced Mexican fare, and a professional bar/wait staff).I rate them at 5-stars.My server,Erixon, did an awesome job.I chose the RED SANGRIA as my beverage. It proved to be so perfectly balanced that I ordered a second glass. My appetizer,GUACAMOLE,was the best I've ever had.My entree,CHILE RELLENO(roasted poblano pepper stuffed w/Oaxaca cheese, served w/grilled zucchini and white rice)was scrumptious, and such a large portion!Dessert,CREPAS DE CAJETA(crepes topped w/Mexican style caramel and topped w/walnuts) was decadently rich. BRAVO Talavera, BRAVO !"
