I came back for another visit after having great service and excellent food the first time but left being very disappointed. The real disappointment was the food. Didn't taste fresh, some things were under cooked, and a bit sloppy over all. Could be that it was much busier this time than the last time we visited but that shouldn't be an excuse.

We have been to Talara many times and always been happy. This visit our service was so slow. It took forever for all of our food to come out and our two appetizers came out at different times. Our server was very friendly, but seemed as if he could not keep up. We had to flag someone down to get a second round of drinks. The food is good, but the service this time really turned me off.

We were seated immediately and the waiter came quick and we ordered drinks. But that was the end of the good service at Talara. Our waiter was pleasant enough but he either couldn't handle his tables or he wasn't paying enough attention - or the kitchen was poor. Our appetizers came out at different times. We ordered our entrees. We were finished with the appetizer when he came and listed the desserts to us. When we said we hadn't received our entrees he was so surprised he shouted an expletive which made us laugh.15 minutes later 2 of the entrees came. 5-7 minutes later he arrived with the others. 3 were hot, one was room temperature. The diner was afraid to return it. The food was quite good. But the service is what we will remember.

We recently had an enjoyable meal at Talara. The ceviche offerings are unrivaled. Our service was slow to begin, we waited ten minutes from seating to being addressed for the first time. Once the service began it was good but the delay nearly had me get up and leave. The location is excellent, next door to the Harbor East theater. Convenient from the hotels, Little Italy and all of the Baltimoer attractions.

We chose Talara for my birthday celebration with my husband, our son, and his girlfriend. It is our second year for doing so! Once again, it was wonderful, due in no small part to the same server as last year, Casey. He is very knowlegable about the wine list and made our experience just lovely. And the food! The selection is excellent, and none of the 4 of us were disappointed in what we ordered. We will be coming back. Thank you!

Ya know the drinks were expertly mixed and the food was inventive and special. BUT there was only one bartender when there should have been 3 so my 2nd cocktail never arrived until dessert time. They ran out of glasses??! so we were served in plastic cups. The kitchen was having the same problem: they were out of the first few things we tried to order which made it a very limited menu. Once we got our food the ceviche was tasty the fish was fresh the small Tapas we had was well executed. TRAIN YOUR STAFF and hire a few more of em!!

I can't tell you how amazing it was to have Talara host my aunt's birthday. From the moment we got through the doors they greeted her enthusiastically, offered a customized meal from the chef, and gave her a free desert. The service was a little slow but I imagine that's because they were short staffed and one of the waiters was new. Overall it was a wonderful time and my aunt couldn't have been happier.

This is a unique restaurant with a very unique menu - if fact, the seviche menu is more of a build-you-own guide - selecting proteins to match with different preparation/ingredient treatments. We'd have stumbled through it without the guidance of our over-the-top-awesome waiter, Wallace. He listened to what we like, advised us through the protein selections, then suggested preparations, eating order and even the right cocktail to complement our selections. It was awesome. In fact the only parts of the eating experience that were a letdown were the choice we made without his input. Great drinks, fun menu (don't get me wrong, the non-seviche portion of the menu is easy to navigate), hip atmosphere -- and did I mention a great waiter?

We had an opportunity to use a TravelZoo voucher at Talara while in Baltimore for an overnight getaway. The deal was great and allowed us to try different options. The Blood Orange Marguarita (with infused jalapeno and habanero pepper tequila) was excellent. Nice appetizers (mussels with fantastic broth to dip bread, and a shrimp, onion and cracker app), tasty entrees (rib eye with garlic mashed potatoes, and shrimp and grits), and a large dessert to share with ice cream, gelato, and tiny doughnuts. We had a very good waiter, but I did notice the other waiter seemed very lackluster so glad we didn't get him. Overall, a nice experience.

This was my first visit to Talara. Overall, it was fine, convenient for a casual meal before a concert at Pier 6. However, do allow yourself enough time before your show because the service here is quite slow to the point of nervousness that you won't get out ontime for your event. Our waiter did not stop by our table to refill water or to check out how our food was. The food was good: I had the Carne Asada, she had the Shrimp & Grits. They offer a gluten free menu which was great for her. And they carry Clausthaler, a very nice German non-alcoholic beer. It's always a PLUS when I can get something other than O'Doul's. A MINUS, however for the outdated menu link from the Open Table website. Prices are at least $5 more on the actual menu.

Our experience at this Talara was awesome! Parked at the hotel next door & used the valet service, which provided a convenience for us. We were seated right away and greeted a few minutes later by a very friendly waiter. He proved to be VERY knowledgable, patient, and efficient. He gave suggestions for us and made us feel like we were the only ones in the place. I recommend the ceviche (any one would be great), the ribs as an appetizer (fell off the bone) and the crab cakes dinner. My husband and I, as Marylanders, swear that these are the best that we have had in the whole state; loaded with crab meat and lightly crispy on the outside. The ambiance was great with detail given to light fixtures and decor. A place to brag about!

We just love the food and drink selections at Talara. I do wish you got a little more food for the money, but it's nice for a special occasion or splurge. I had been to Talara before when I recommended it as a dinner date spot last Saturday night. Again, the seviche was fresh and presented creatively, the drinks were different and tasty, and the server had plenty to recommend after an appropriately energetic conversation with us. Everything was great. The drinks took a while, but we enjoyed the scenery and music (cool playlist!) while we waited. It was all worth the wait and I will be back!

Busier than expected for a weeknight, but they couldn't seem to handle it. Had a special deal for two drinks, two tapas, two entrees and deserts. Took longer than reasonable to get all courses. For dessert, we ordered and waited for 20-25 minutes for a brownie and ice cream. The waiter kept saying he would check on it. Even if the chefs were busy, we couldn't understand why the waiter or manager or someone couldn't dish up a simple brownie and ice cream rather than just providing excuses and apologies. Really unacceptable. After all this wait, we never got the brownie, just another final apology. The tapas and drinks were good. One of us got the ribeye entree and it was quite fatty. The other got the crab cake and it was good.

It was recommended by a Fells Point resident to have dinner at Talara before our concert at Pier6. We parked on President's Street across from Pier 6 and walked 1 block to Talara. We had a 5:45pm reservation on a Tuesday eve, but the place was not crowded at all. The host was also our waiter. He did a great job at explaining happy hour and giving recommendations. Unfortunately the busier it got, the less we saw our waiter and had to ask other servers for help a couple times. Other than that,my crab cakes were ok, but my boyfriend said the crispy duck was excellent. I tasted the coconut rice on his plate and it was to die for delicious. The tropical shrimp/calamari ceviche was really good. I enjoyed the sangria the best.

The kale salad and crispy duck was delicious. The presentation for the fire and ice was beautiful and it tasted great too. It was quite spicy, though. My husband really liked the crab cakes and he usually never likes them fried. The chef was very accommodating for our vegan diner which is why I gave service a three. Otherwise maybe a two because the server never checked on us unless we flagged him down. Also we were sat next to the kitchen and it gets very smoky. Don't sit there. All in all very impressed with the food.
