Diner Reviews
  • "Busier than expected for a weeknight, but they couldn't seem to handle it. Had a special deal for two drinks, two tapas, two entrees and deserts. Took longer than reasonable to get all courses. For dessert, we ordered and waited for 20-25 minutes for a brownie and ice cream. The waiter kept saying he would check on it. Even if the chefs were busy, we couldn't understand why the waiter or manager or someone couldn't dish up a simple brownie and ice cream rather than just providing excuses and apologies. Really unacceptable. After all this wait, we never got the brownie, just another final apology. The tapas and drinks were good. One of us got the ribeye entree and it was quite fatty. The other got the crab cake and it was good."

  • "Food came out really quick, drinks were really good. Felt a bit rushed by the waiter, but it wasn't very busy, so he may have just been bored. Great first date spot."

  • "Everything on the menu is done in a unique style, at least compared to other places I have been in Baltimore. I have eaten there 3 times and keep going back. I am sure I will continue as the food is great!"

  • "It was recommended by a Fells Point resident to have dinner at Talara before our concert at Pier6. We parked on President's Street across from Pier 6 and walked 1 block to Talara. We had a 5:45pm reservation on a Tuesday eve, but the place was not crowded at all. The host was also our waiter. He did a great job at explaining happy hour and giving recommendations. Unfortunately the busier it got, the less we saw our waiter and had to ask other servers for help a couple times. Other than that,my crab cakes were ok, but my boyfriend said the crispy duck was excellent. I tasted the coconut rice on his plate and it was to die for delicious. The tropical shrimp/calamari ceviche was really good. I enjoyed the sangria the best."

  • "My boyfriend and I love going to different restaurants with new ethnic cuisine. The reviews (and a tipsy couple on the way out hahaha) recommended the fire and ice seviche so we tried it! Definitely not something we were used to but glad we tried it! Our meals were amazing and we really enjoyed ourselves."

  • "We had an 8pm reservation and it seemed very empty to me, a lot of open tables. I would have liked a more lively scene, but the food was good and the drinks were okay. I would go back, but would try other places first."

  • "Interesting menu, had vegetarian options which we needed. Attentive service. Restaurant is a bit noisy, but attractive and pleasant."

  • "The kale salad and crispy duck was delicious. The presentation for the fire and ice was beautiful and it tasted great too. It was quite spicy, though. My husband really liked the crab cakes and he usually never likes them fried. The chef was very accommodating for our vegan diner which is why I gave service a three. Otherwise maybe a two because the server never checked on us unless we flagged him down. Also we were sat next to the kitchen and it gets very smoky. Don't sit there. All in all very impressed with the food."

  • "Loved. We had a great time. The waiter was very helpful. Other waiters gave food suggestions. The tapas were amazing. Also the desert was delicious! ! I will be coming back."

  • "We had a great evening at Talara. I was very impressed by our server. She gave great descriptions of the food and great recommendations. The jalapeño marg was outstanding. The fire and ice seviche was also tasty. Don't order the Brooklyn Pale Ale. It tastes like Coors Light."

  • "The FOOD was outstanding and the prices are beyond reasonable for the succulent dishes this restaurant serves. Faves: - Asian Tartare (Amazing little bites) - Mussels Cataplana (Divine... make sure to dip your bread in the broth) - Sesame Glazed Ribs (Braised for four years and served with a scoop of mashed potatoes) - Crispy Duck (Cooked to perfection!)"

  • "Came here on a first date; my reservation was not honored and we were set by the bar even though other tables were open. The entrees we wanted were unavailable. The food was mediocre at best. Would not return there."

  • "I booked my reservations blindly. This was my first visit. The food, service and prices were great. I had the shrimp and grits. They were the best that I had. I can't remember the name of my guest dish because I kept talking about mine. I planned to go again for happy hour this week and take my mom one day after church. I really enjoyed my experience"

  • "Food was excellent, shared all the appetizers and they were all fantastic. Mussels were tender, meat fell off the braised ribs, flatbread was terrific. Also shared pitcher of white and red sangria and both were very good and large pitchers for the price."

  • "This is my 3rd time there and I can't get enough of their great food. I try something new every time."

  • "Our experience was overall a positive one. Food was very good, wide variety with many different sauces. The main negative was our waiter was less than knowledgable about the menu. We had never been to the restaurant before and had several questions about the menu. For each question asked, our waiter didn't have an answer and had to check with the chef. It would have been more enjoyable had our waiter been more informed."

  • "This was the second visit to Talara. Each visit has been nothing less than outstanding. The food and service is excellent. The management staff has this restaurant clicking on all cylinders. It was my birthday and I was honored to celebrate it with at least four other birthday folks who know a great place when they eat at it."

  • "I have been here a number of times and found the experience to be consistantly outstanding. High quality, diverse food, good service and an atmosphere that is fun. One of my GO-To's in Baltimore... "

  • "We have dined at Talara twice now, and it is one of those places where we enjoy the appetizers more than the entrées. They offer ceviches, tapas, and sushi, all with a Latino flare. I was most impressed with the ceviches: choose the preparation, choose the fish (raw or cooked). Try the Fire and Ice with cobia. My wife had the delicious crabmeat and avocado sushi called the Jimmy Roll. The cocktails are creative as well. We were wowed by the jalapeño-infused Fiery Blood-Orange Margarita. Entrées were not of the same calibre. While my dining partners' dishes came out piping hot, my tepid crabcake chili relleno had obviously been sitting for quite some time."

  • "This restaurant used to be very good several years ago, but recently, it has declined. The food is just fair. Things are over cooked or omitted. We ordered kale salad which comes with cranberries, however, we told the waiter and manager it was missing, and they said we "assure they were included". It was. It there. The tuna meatballs were over cooked and flavorless. Truly declining. Not planning to return anymore."

  • "The mushroom "flatbread" was good, but the "flatbread" was tortilla chips. My wife got the shrimp and grits and I got the 6 hour Malbec braised short ribs. Both entrees were far too salted for my taste. My wife agreed as well. Also, my short ribs were actually pulled and shredded. Unless otherwise stated, I expect my ribs (any type) to be on the bone. Service was adequate. We will not go back."

  • "As a foodie I appreciated the exciting mix of cuisines presented in Talara's menu. We ordered one of the triple orders of ceviche - however, each serving was tiny (keep that in mind considering the price). However, that being said it was DELICIOUS, and worth the money for a special occasion (mine was college graduation). Cocktails were phenomenal - we had the pisco sour, mojito, capirinha, and another I can't recall the name of - a tequila drink with some pinkish/orange fruit juices. Paloma maybe? All wonderful - and my mom has spent time in Peru, Argentina, and Cuba - so her opinion is worth something. The food itself was all great, and presented in fun, decorative displays. Everything was absolutely delicious!"

  • "The kitchen is in the same room with the dining area - too noisy. Service is so so. Food is good but overpriced. The restaurant doesn't have very good scenic view (busy street)"

  • "went for brunch and food was mediocre at best (cold tater tots at the brunch buffet-c'mon seriously?) and poorly presented, they ran out of certain drinks (iced tea and bloody mary)and had to run to the grocery store down the street for refills, overall not impressed."

  • "When we arrived, they tried to cram us all in a table meant for 3 instead of 6. The staff realized it was silly and gave us another table. For Mother's Day there was a buffet set up which is not optimum with the layout in the restaurant. It was very confusing which way to start (the staff kept pointing us in the wrong direction). The majority of the aluminum picnic trays (not chafing dishes) were empty. We had to keep asking the staff whether there would be more food. They finally made some ceviche for us. The salmon platter was empty, and the cook made me pick up the dirty platter so it could be filled up. The polenta looked like cement, everything else was cold and tasteless. On a plus, the drinks were decent. Will not return!"

  • "Talara was great find we arrived in time for happy hour which included mango mojito’s, bourbon drinks and appetizers for five dollars each. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I enjoyed the Crispy Duck entrée moist with just the right amount of sweet and spicy flavor. My husband enjoyed the apple wood pork chop. Parking garage on Exeter Street after 5:00pm for five dollars with restaurant validation. "

  • "The location of the restaurant is great. The starters and the butternut squash soup was yum. Was disappointed with the main course. Its Americanized Latin food. Probably wont ever go back. "

  • "Definitely try the ceviche, crab cakes and shrimp and grits. The food is delicious and well made. The service was also great and the chef went out of his way to accommodate all our food allergy requests! Great service and great food. Definitely put this on your list of restaurants to try in Baltimore-you won't regret it!"

  • "Overall we had a great meal at Talara. It took a little bit for us to be seated at our reserved table, but the manager took care of us because of the wait. The food was well crafted and delicious! If you are expecting traditional ceviche, it's not quite offered in the way I've seen in most other places as you mix and match seafood with a preparation. Everything we ordered was excellent, and the drinks were good as well (a little slow on the bar, but well made.)"

  • "This was a pleasant surprise, used a zootravel voucher and was not expecting fabulous, but food and service was excellent. Reservations needed because it’s a very small place, so use opentable to reserve, but well worth the wait if you decide to wait for a table. Great appetizers including excellent sushi (Fire and Ice Seviche was very tasty), very creative drink choices and very good Latin America entrees, we had the Rib Eye with an excellent chimichurri sauce and the CRABCAKE CHILE RELLENO. Service was Excellent. "

  • "this was my first trip to Talara. I'd heard good things and was really looking forward to checking it out. We got the trio of ceviche for two- the Fire & Ice with Octopus was fantastic. Also enjoyed some of the tapas- particularly the woodfired mushroom flatbread. Everything was very fresh and tasty. by far my favorite thing though was the blood orange margarita with the jabanero infused tequila. I didn't try any of the entrees, but if you plan on sharing tapas and ceviche like we did, just know that the cost adds up very quickly and portions are obviously not large. overall our experience was good and i would recommend Talara, though I do feel it is a tad on the pricey end for what you get."

  • "We've been to Talara a few times before and always had great experiences with good food and service. My only complaint this visit was that my entree, shrimp and grits, was oversalted. I like things salty, but this was too much. I'm hoping this was a fluke as everything else on this visit and past visits was great."

  • "A Foodie's dream.... unique flavor combinations, the freshness of the food... it was Amazing! Our server was very helpful in helping us pair up particular seafood with ceviche combos. Mojitos are ALWAYS DELICIOUS, perfect every time!"

  • "Now menu is pricy and we paid $115 total but honestly you get what you pay for. The seviche is made fresh to order right in front of you if you sit at the seviche bar but if your sitting at a table then the staff will give it to you. We tried something different on the menu for the main entry and the crispy duck taste like orange chicken. The coconut rice was extremely addictive and my boyfriend had got the braised short ribs which was so tender it melt in your mouth. Give it a try please make reservation because the place isn't that big, the seviche bar is full service, and ambiance is moderate. We went at 6:30 this time so it's semi quit but at night it can get loud. Service always great but the drinks isn't much different anywhere else"
