Takeda Thai by Moulay reviews from OpenTable diners
  • The word "mediocre" came up
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 3/18/2012
The word "mediocre" came up often during the dinner conversation. The spring role appetizers were crispy, but the fried oil over powered the flavorless cabbage filling. A sweet & sour dipping sauce reminiscent of budget Chinese take out didn't help. Our two entree plates were served cold without rice which was also cold when it arrived. The Pad Thai was one dimensional and very bland. The Thai Basil Chicken was supposedly spice level three, but neither heat or intense basil flavor made it to the fork. Dessert offerings were slim which seemed strange for such a high priced menu. My sister had two scoops of Cookies & Cream ice cream but was really looking for anything with chocolate.

  • Valentine's Day Review
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 2/14/2012
Valentine's menu was limited. However, their special dish of Mahi Mahi, shell fish muscles and Thai seasonings was excellent. It did take quite a while for the food to be served. Wine menu was also small. We enjoyed very much the belly dancing entertainment. Ava Fleming was wonderful. Ava's dancing and interaction with the customers was well received and welcomed by all. The owner, Sarah was very friendly and came to our table during dinner to ask about our meal and service. We had a good time and would go back again to try out their full menu of Thai food.

  • Went here based on recommendations

Went here based on recommendations by other diners for Valentines Day dinner. They had a belly dancer (this is a Thai restaurant?) Food was OK but not the best Thai we've ever had. Service was very slow but friendly. They played loud music even when dancer wasn't performing making it nearly impossible to have a conversation. Tables were jammed together cheek-to-jowl. Not what I had in mind for a romantic Valentine dinner. To restaurant's credit they did send e-mail indicating they would have the belly dancer and limited menu. But figured it would have a Valentine theme. (NOT!) Otherwise, it is probably an OK neighborhood spot. Place was packed and those without reservations were turned away.

It would be worth your while to give Moulay's Takeda Thai a try to experience what I have been experiencing for the last 2 years. That is, the quality of the food, the preparation time that he puts into each dish on his menu. As for his staff serving the food, they are friendly, caring and experience providing a comfortable dining experience. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

I really liked the food at Takeda Thai. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful about explaining how the spicy-scaled worked. It was nice that the owner came out to visit every table and chat with us, even as they got busy. The interior was dark and fancy as well as the front entrance. It is a small place but great food and ambiance.

Takeda Thai matches its superb food with excellent service. There are very few options for good Thai food in town and this restaurant sits comfortably at the top. The Tom Yum Gai was a superb starter and the Thai Basil is definitely worth a return trip. The owners were around for dinner and I appreciated their taking the time to discuss other items on the menu. An added plus was the restaurant's wine selection.

One of our favorite local restaurants. A great change of pace from the franchises. Wonderful food tasting very fresh. We've been here numerous times (we're going back again in a few days!) and find the food is very consistent. this is one of the spots we like to bring our out of town guests to.

Everything we order was outstanding. The beef jerky with wok charred edamame was an excellent appetizer . Sara recommended the mahi-mahi and mussels in a curry sauce for a main course along with the pad thai. Again, both were very good. I can't believe this restaurant has been around for three years and we are just finding out about it. Sara made us feel as if were dining in her home and everything was prepared just for us. Can't wait to return.

The four of us enjoyed the food and ambiance of Takeda Thai. The Thai Basil shrimp was nicely seasoned and generous although the shrimp were a little dry and overcooked. The Pad Thai was too sweet side to my taste. While attractively presented on a in a white and blue covered bowl, the Panang Chicken curry was surprisingly small. We were disappointed that Mango Sticky rice was not available since mangos are available at this time of year. Although the restaurant was not busy for a Saturday night our waiter who didn't introduce himself was less than attentive to our table. I would say that the service from him was the low point. Definitely room for improvement there. We loved Moulay's Moroocan Mint tea!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2005

I wrote that the service was poor but that was for PART of it! The poor part was that the dishes foe each in our party were brought out at WIDELY different times sow some were eating exile others were finished! This was not good! Later we realized that each dinner is made to order which, of course, explains the quite long delay between the deliveries! They should explain that UP FRONT so one is prepared. One dinner was TOO spicy (even tho she had asked fir mild) and the chef came out and even brought her a néw meal. This was nice but hers was one of three that came out late (THEY were not together either!) so she had snacked on others and ended taking most of it home. The waiter was new and not so good! Would NOT go back!

Seriously, I don't even know where to start because everything was incredible. The food, the service, the atmosphere, the extra attention and even the lovely owner Sarah. What an experience! There were 8 of us celebrating a birthday and we tried almost a dozen dishes. At the end of the night nobody could decide on a favorite because they were all so amazing. I am going back next week to try some more dishes off the menu just to see what I missed. If you have not been to Takeda and are looking at reviews to decide please don't hesitate......just go here!! As a former chef myself I think I know food pretty well and this was simply the best Thai I have ever had. All made from scratch and to order. It just does not get any better.

The sauce with the well-prepared chicken satay was not as good as the chicken. We had very good dinners. Our server gave us options for levels of hot and the meals were as we requested. They were tasty and aromatic, and quite fresh. The room was quite allowing easy conversation.

Our reservation was honored when we arrived. The food was prepared to order and was delicious. We had a nice conversation with the owner/chef about the restaurant needing to have better signage so that guests know where it is located within a shopping area that is not directly on Scottsdale Road. We were given a complimentary dessert of freshly made coconut ice cream. We definitely recommend the Thai cuisine of Takeda Thai.
