Service was excellent. Wine by the glass very good. Food was plated beautifully. But the taste for almost every dish was just ok. The Scottish salmon was served in two small strips that were dry as a bone. That was for two of the three people at our table. We should have sent it back. The chicken in the pot was good. Would likely not go back.

We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings, and it was fantastic (for a reasonable price). The salted chocolate creme brûlée was the best dessert I've ever had. I also loved the gnocchi with sake pairing. Some of the food was a little flat. The highs were way high and the lows were good, not great. I definitely recommend and will be back. The downstairs is more quiet than the upstairs.

Celebrated the hubby's birthday with two good friends over the weekend. None of us had ever been to Takashi; so we were looking forward to a new experience. Takashi did not disappoint. Takashi offers small-to-medium-to-large plates or a variety from a tasting menu. We decided to try a little of everything and share among the group. We had sashimi wrapped in proscuitto, scallops in a parmessan foam, steak and pork belly open face sandwiches, and a whole host of other tasty dishes, each better than the one before. I would certainly recommend this place for couples or a small group of friends. The service was friendly and attentive. The wine and spirit menu was suitable and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Will definitely return!

Interesting tasting menu but some definite highs and lows…. highs - octopus salad, salted caramel dessert, cabbage soup lows - duck was dull, pork was also a big disappointment wine pairing was haphazard and didn't really reflect the meal content Overall felt like something that hadn't evolved much…..

We were celebrating our anniversary and went with the Chef's tasting menu. Wow! It was 7 courses of amazing food cooked and presented to perfection. The soup with the soft boiled egg is the best soup I've ever had, and every course brought something new, interesting, and delicious. To top it off, we met Chef Takashi and his wife who were wonderful hosts. We hope to return soon!

  • Sunday Omakase

This past Sunday, we dined at Takashi for the first time. The restaurant has a special tapas and noodles menu on Sundays, and an Omakase derived from that menu. We chose the seven-course Omakase with wine pairings, and were delighted—the food was fabulous, the wine pairings were interesting (and sometimes brilliant), the service was well paced and warm. We'll definitely return, perhaps to try the regular menu next time. I was a bit surprised at how casual the ambiance is, but not unpleasantly—actually, the approachable, unstuffy feel of the place was quite welcome.

We stop here on our way home after a Chicago weekend for their noodle brunch. Everything was wonderful with the exception of the Fois Gras sushi. The fois gras pieces are so small that you can't taste it over the other ingredients. The noodle bowls were tasty though.

We expected a quality meal, and we were blown away. The chef's tasting menu stellar from start to finish - especially finish - the creme brulee was one of the most amazing desserts I have ever had, and I don't normally even like creme brulee!! The timing of service was a little uneven, the courses came a little too fast at the start and a little too slowly at the end, but that's a small complaint. I would go back again in a second.

There was a wonderful tasting menu but unfortunately it required that both if us get it, and dietary restrictions made it not possible. The skate was elegantly presented on risotto which was delicious, and it was surrounded by veggies and mushrooms that were a perfect contrast. Food restricions were accomodated. Apps were equally exquisite, and dessert was a decadent dream. Only disappointment was duck, which although tasty, was a bit chewy.

We recently attended brunch at Takashi. The restaurant is small, with tasteful decor, and a small outside patio. The service is friendly, professional, and they know the menu. The food is excellent! Elegant plates of nourishing food. Delicious flavors; we sampled six dishes. Each dish was expertly plated, presented well, and executed to perfection. From the cucumber appetizer, through the duck fat fried chicken, to the red miso ramen, each dish was delectable. The meal made us happy. Thank you Takashi!

  • One Michelin star?
    BingEats

The Michelin Star drew us to this place for dinner on a Saturday, celebrating my birthday. Japanese/French fusion sounded so good! Unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectation, even though we did have an enjoyable evening. The latter is mostly because my husband loved everything he ordered -the baby octopus, the pork belly and the scallops. My dinner choices, the soft shell crab and the monk fish, were totally unimpressive and actually quite tasteless. We both thought our Egg and Macaron dessert was too gimmicky. There wasn't enough creme brulee in the egg to taste! Overall we are split on the food, which has too many misses for my liking. I’m seriously questioning the Michelin Star thing!

Our crew of five was "first in" on a Saturday evening at 5:00. Our orders included the Trio, a good and generous charcuterie, a plea sing salad of asparagus and beets and a less successful ceviche of shrimp, which suffered somewhat from an unannounced substitution of salmon for Maine sweet shrimp. Among the hot plates, the pork belly, a deconstructed steamed bun, was great. For mains, monk fish and the chicken in the clay pot were winners by a small margin. The food is a great reason to go, but there were a few service issues. The table was missing utensils upon arrival and they were streaky. Wine service was uneven, with the waiter leaving most of the pouring to us. We thought the wine list was excellent, though. Will be back.

We did not have the omakase as we just can't eat that much. What we did order yielded mix results. The starters were very good but not outstanding (nasu and tako). The mains one good but a bit too much salt (mochi and mushrooms). The other, (katsu-don) was not edible as it was so salty. They apologized and removed it from the bill but this is such a classic dish. Difficult to screw up.

Takashi is here, and a "celebrity" chef on-site is all too rare these days. It makes a difference. I love this place: Perfect dishes, interesting and unusual but not contrived. The food is sophisticated, but a young child at a nearby table ate with gusto. Lovely little terrace, small ground-floor room, charming upstairs room.

I came to Takashi skeptical that it would measure up. I left thinking it raised the bar and set the standard. The tasting menu was consistently tremendous, plate after plate of beautifully prepared dishes that never disappoint. The Mediterranean glaze with Cumin on one of the dishes forced me to pick up my bread and finish it. Yes I made sure no one was watching. The baby octopus salad was packed with flavor after flavor. All of it felt healthy, a juxtaposition of spices and thoughtful combinations of ingredients. And the service was very accomodating and never intrusive. Jake and Giovanni were fabulous. An absolutely great night. Go to Takashi! I will be back.

My friends and I were eagerly awaiting our reservation. The starters were pretty good but our main dish (chicken in a clay pot) was so salty that we couldn't even finish it. One of my friends had to take her rings off because it effected her that quickly. The server was friendly but not on top of things and very slow. She didn't even notice our uneaten food. The dessert was delicious. Unfortunate for Takashi, there are so many restaurants in Chicago that I feel confident in saying that we will not return to give them another shot.

We loved Takashi, and happily spent more than we expected! We ordered the Omakase for four - and it was brilliant. The chef was completely accommodating to the fact that one of our party doesn't eat gluten or dairy, and made her lovely special dishes with elements of what the rest of us were served. One tiny gripe, and that's that we felt a little "encouraged out" at the end of the night - about 9:45 on a Friday night, which seemed a bit early to be rushing us along. It wasn't egregious, but it was real. We were one of two remaining tables, and we were spending a ton, so I didn't like that much. But otherwise, lovely service, amazing food, a very special treat.

Since this was my first visit I went with the tasting to get acclimated with the menu. The scallops, duck, and pork belly were delicious. Up there with the best I've had. I hadn't heard anything about Takashi's Sunday brunch, so I was surprised to see that they serve a Sunday noodles and tapas menu. This reminded me of Yusho's Sunday noodles menu, although here there are more snacks and tapas available. Noodles are definitely the more affordable option, since you will fill up on a big bowl of broth, meats, veggies and noodles for less than $15. My friend and I opted to split a selection of tapas though, and they have some really interesting ones. We highly recommend the pork belly bao and the spicy cucumber kimchi. Save room for Pastry Chef Courtney Joseph's interesting Asian desserts too – matcha tofu cheesecake with azuki beans, kumquats and tofu ice cream was heavenly.

We went for dinner after having enjoyed the tapas/noodle brunch one Sunday. We opted for the 7-course omakase - staff was awesome/accommodating, the chef came out to say hello, and every bite was delicious. We chose the wine/sake pairings, and all of it was excellent. We felt full at the end, but not uncomfortably so, as the courses/pours were portioned well. My favorites included the crudo of baby octopus/hokkaido scallop and the egg dessert. My partner's favorites were the sauteed scallops and soba gnocchi and the Moroccan glazed duck. We paid a reasonable price for our meal, as well. We went early in the evening and received excellent service - everyone was incredibly attentive. All in all, a wonderful pick for a celebratory evening.
