TakashiExcellent kaiseki menuThe Sunday kaiseki menu was incredible. Artistic yet true to original flavors. Presented and explained nicely by the servers.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good mealWe had the asparagus (just okay and bland) and the duck confit (fantastic and a large portion) cold plates as well as the sweetbread and escargot (fantastic) to start. Main courses of pork two-ways (one of them was exceptional while the other okay) and duck breast (very well presented and very good). Desserts were panna cotta (very good) and chocolate mousse (very good). Overall food was very good and well presented, the service very attentive/warm and atmosphere very warm. Definitely will return. We did feel rather "rationed" with the bread and the wine offerings are very limited.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best birthday dinnersOne of the best birthday dinners I have ever had.
The food and the service were both outstanding.
Memorable evening.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Meal at Takashi!Super creative menu, fresh ingredients, and fantastic service. I'll definitely be back!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMTakashi A special dining experienceVisted Takashi after rave reviews from a friend. It is a universally appreciated Chicago restaurant. I truly enjoyed, and each person I speak with, who has dined there, is equally enthusiastic. Beautiful presentation. Intriguing food combinations. Loved It!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat's not to love about Takashi?I was skeptical at first of the concept of French and Japanese fusion, but was delighted to be proven wrong. The food is outstanding in every way -- taste, presentation, and creativity -- and surprisingly easy on the wallet for a Michelin-starred restaurant. We've eaten at most of the Michelin restaurants in Chicago, and Takashi is our clear favorite. The staff is attentive without being bothersome, and the wine list offers great selections at reasonable prices. A sure bet for a great meal in Chi-town!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Dining experienceMy husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Takashi.
We ordered a la carte because our 4 month old was with the sitter and we did not feel we had the time to try the tasting menu.
From the cold appetizer we had the beef tataki.
For the hot appetizer we had ordered the foie gras and scallop.
Our main entrees were the veal and duck.
for dessert the valrona chocolate cake and the coconut financier
I highly recommend the foie gras, scallop and gnocchi, duck and the coconut financier!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMChef Takashi Inspires GeniusTakashi impresses me every time I go. This is, hands down, my favorite restaurant. Enough said.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food, great serviceThe food was amazing. I was a bit leery of "french-japanese" fusion, but I think Chef Takashi is able to blend primarily Japanese inspired cuisine with some truly spectacular other elements. Each dish was unique. The plating was simply unparalleled. They clearly put a lot effort to source good seafood. Their product in general was excellent. I did not do omakase, but it was reasonably priced nevertheless. Will go back again.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Dining ExperienceMy Fiance and I were really big fan of Takashi on Top Chef Masters, so when we were in Chicago we decided we had to check out his restaurant. We did the tasting menu with the wine pairing and were thoroughly impressed. It was almost $120 each, which is high for a normal night out, but since it was a special occasion it was not a big deal. The wine pairings were right on and the food was delicious.
The waiter was very helpful and was even kind enough to bring out Takashi for a photo. It was really nice having a chance to meet the chef and made for a really great experience.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall portions but incredibleSmall portions but incredible flavor. A true fine dining experience.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely and inventiveSubtle asian influences with beautifully prepared and presented food. New cuisine without trendiness, i.e. not much foam.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AM7 course tasting menuOutstanding meal. We loved every course from the seafood sausage amuse Bouche to the dessert. Service was very attentive yet a laid back feeling. I would definitely go back5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMSo many great options! My husband and I were slightly overwhelmed by the number of things on the menu that we wanted to try. Per the recommendation of our server, we each ordered an appetizer (plate), main entree, and dessert. I found this to be a very satisfying amount of food. We loved everything. The scallop and gnocci is every bit as wonderful as promised. The only negative thing I have to say is that the wine list is not very user friendly for a wine novice. I did love the laid back atmosphere. It's remarkably low key--especially for a restaurant with a Michelin star. We will definitely be returning to try all of the amazing dishes we didn't get to this time.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!Takashi never disappoints!. Even though the ambience and service are top-notch, it's the food that shines. Every dish is a flavor surprise -- delectable, fun, and interesting. You won't find these dishes anywhere else. We were happy to see brand new items on the menu and tried a few along with our "old standards" and every bite was delicious. The new duck dish was a knockout and my husband was wowed by the new short rib and pork belly plate. We can't wait to go back SOON to sample more of the menu. If you haven't been there before, you must try the scallops with soba noodles. And everyone should get the egg custard dessert -- I seriously could have eaten six of them.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting experienceIt was a interesting restaurant. It was a renovated home so it is cozy. The food portions are very very small, but delicious. The scallops and gnocchi were the best. Great to try it out.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceTakashi was awesome. We had a special 6 course tasting menu with the pairing. I loved every minute of the meal. The staff was very attentive and made the experience great. We enjoyed it so much that we have already made our next reservation. Highly recommended!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe BEST!An amazing experience all the way around! From the quaint atmosphere to the superb service and, of course, the exquisite food. Chef Takashi really nailed it with this one. If you have a chance, stick around for dessert - one of Chef's signature desserts, "The Egg" is phenomenal.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMinteresting but not blown awayall six of us enjoyed dinner and the scallop and tuna taco appetizers were memorable. Good desserts but fish was pedestrian. Enjoyed sharing many appetizers and the ambiance was casual chic. Yes I recommend Takashi but it's not a "don't miss it" experience.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent mealI e read reviews complaining a out small portions but everything the four us ordered was perfectly sufficient. Highlights were the tuna taco app, pork belly with rice bread and wasabi, but everything was delicious.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat tasting menuWe tried the tasting menu with 7 courses and wine pairing. Everything was delicious but the highlights were the beef, the scallop and dessert (a chocolate creme brûlée with caramel and sea salt). The pairing wa nice as well. Restaurant is very quiet (which we liked). Staff is present but not too much. Highly recommended.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA little pricey but so good!Small, intimate restaurant, good service, awesome food. I liked that it's not sushi, italian, mexican, steaks, burgers, an over-priced gastro-pub, or any of the other usual suspects. Would recommend for a special occasion.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeWe eat out a lot, this is one of best food we ever had. Everything was great. The service, the wine list & the food were all high quality. We will definitely go back again & refer to our friends.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMTakashi may be the best in ChicagoThis is simple....just go to the wonderful restaurant, order the multi course fixed price menu, with wine pairings, and have maybe the best dining experience in Chicago.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to Takashi atWe have been to Takashi at least 3 times. The food is always very interesting and delicious. I had the fluke and my husband had the short ribs, both were very good. Our friends started with the salmon/crab appetizer and were raving about it. All in all a wonderful way to spend Friday night with friends.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food and ServiceWe went for our anniversary and had a wonderful evening. We chose the tasting menu, but my wife does not eat pork. They were very gracious and substituted for her with no problem. Our server was great and explained every item in detail and really made the night terrific.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNice dining experienceWe had a table for the five of us, quiet and private. Especially enjoyed the veal entree.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMInventive, Delicious and WelcomingThis was not our first time at Takashi, and it won't be our last. I love this place! Takashi's has both small plates (hot and cold) and Main Plates - all highly creative, beautifully presented and delicious!
They also have an interesting cocktail list and great wines, many really good ones available by the glass.
The space itself is cozy and casual, very comfortable and homey... and the service is great as well!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMPhenomenalTakashi is a master chef. His creations are unique and flavorful. Every dish we tried was phenomenal.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Food + Great AmbianceLoved the small, intimate setting of Takashi. Service was attentive but not over-bearing and very helpful with menu selections. The tuna tacos were great to start with, the pork belly was savory, and the scallops were to die for. I've never been a big fan of duck, but Takashi has converted me! A tad expensive for the small portion sizes, but overall a great dining experience.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic meal!My husband and I went there to celebrate our anniversary. We had the cold salmon and crab appetizer along with the hot scallop appetizer. Both appetizers were amazing. I had the duck and my husband had the short ribs and pork belly. Again, both were fabulous! We ordered dessert and they brought an extra dessert as well with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate. It was such a nice gesture and once again we were so pleased. I cannot say enough about how great the food was and the service as well. We'll definitely return next time we're in Chicago!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWe did the wine-tasting menuWe did the wine-tasting menu which was excellent!!! The food and wine were outstanding, and the service was good although our waiter was a bit hard to understand at times. I was quite surprised that the restaurant is in a converted 2-story house so it's very cozy with tables fairly close together.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular food (notablySpectacular food (notably the Scallops and Pork Belly), and even better service. We were even treated to meeting Takashi himself, which was a real treat.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, great service.Great food, great service. Had a wonderful meal, one of the best we've had in the city in a long time.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBRAVO! Returning for rest of menu! We're going back to eat the rest of the menu...once we have more OpenTable gift certs. Amazing flavors, fresh and balanced with fruit, veggies, and decadent proteins. Chef Takashi's offerings were everything we hoped for after watching him work magic on Top Chef. Service was impeccable. Pacing of the meal was perfect. Cocktails are delicious and unlike anything I've seen elsewhere in Chicago. We went as a couple, I wouldn't go with more than party of 4 as it could kill the atmosphere. It's intimate, and meant to be that way. BRAVO!!!!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing restaurant. We wereAmazing restaurant. We were lucky enough to meet the chef! Outstanding service!
Every dish on the menu was unbelievably delicious!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing, creative food! TheAmazing, creative food! The best meal I had in Chicago.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMReally top notch food, butReally top notch food, but service couldn't turn over tables fast enough, so we endured a long wait with a reservation (the staff were very apologetic and offering free cocktails/dessert which just about made up for it). Cocktails were tasty, but wine menu is fairly limited. Recommend the scallops and the terrine (one of the best I've had in Chicago). You are in good culinary hands here.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat! What a great meal. I literally loved every bit. The service was wonderful, portions just the right size. I really can't wait to go back. My friend and eye took the chef's suggestions off the price fixed menu. We did not think that we could each eat all seven courses, but we tried them all and were wowed.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent experience. ClosenessExcellent experience. Closeness of tables problem for private conversations particularly upstairs.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I chose the 7-courseMy wife and I chose the 7-course chef's tasting menu and were impressed with the presentation and the clean balance of flavors, paired with the Riesling suggested by our waiter. While it is nearly impossible to choose our favorite course, the crudo of yellowtail and monkfish "foie grais" brought the meal to another level with chef Takashi's miso mustard sauce.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMImpress your date at Takashi!I was very excited to go to Takashi and left very pleased! The food, service and environment was perfect for me and my special visitor from out of state. Great place for 'date night'!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMChoose this restaurant!Beyond wonderful experience with the Omakase tasting menu! Tofu amuse bouche was etherial. Interesting wines with the integrated pairing, too. Will recall the experience fondly for a long time!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMI love this place. The foodI love this place. The food is, every time we've eaten here, perfect. Each and every course of the tasting menu has been perfect, which is a rarity. Takashi makes me wish I lived in Chicago. The space is a bit cramped, and we always seem to be seated beside loud obnoxious people with nothing to say, and a need to say it at top volume. The food and sake, however, trumps everything.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were entertaining out ofWe were entertaining out of town guests and Takashi came through with a delicious meal for all! Service was attentive and the chef gave us a warm greeting as we left which left a lasting impression!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a good time here. ServiceHad a good time here. Service was excellent. Food was not what we expected, but it was excellent.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delightful. The food was delightful. The restaurant is in a house, so that was a little weird, but we enjoyed the food and service.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I hadn't beenMy wife and I hadn't been out for over a year since the birth of our triplets. We decided on Takashi from a recommendation from a friend who had been there once. I called ahead and let them know that while it wasn't a birthday or anniversary, it was still a special occasion. We had the omakase, tasting menu, and the wine pairing. All of the food and wine that we had were great! The scallop and gnocchi dish was one of my favorites. The texture of both main components was prefect. I don't think I have ever had a better scallop. I really like the double braised pork belly too. It was sticky and gooey and almost like candy. I had never had a macaroon before that night. Wow! Our waiter was awesome, knowledgable but not pompous! Go to Takashi!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, great service,Great food, great service, great experience. Will definitely return.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic, going again ASAPWe had the Soy Marinated Tuna with Crispy Tortilla, Terrine of Squash and Goat Cheese, Sautéed Maine Scallops and Soba Gnocchi, Roasted Indiana Duck Breast. The food was incredible. Everything was so delicious. The wait staff was attentive, not overbearing at all, and really catered to our table. It is on the expensive side, but so worth it for special occasions or if you got the Groupon!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
