  • "I have been here three times and each meal I've had has been an incredible amazing experience. I took my wife here for her first experience on a groupon for the 9 course Omakase. She was blown away and summed it up by saying it was the best meal that she has ever had in her life! Our waiter, Victor, was very nice and gave us perfect service. He was very knowledgable and helpful with the menu. Get your reservation way in advance if your planning on going here for a special occasion. Also try his other restaurant The Slurping Turtle. If this was your last meal on earth rest assured you would die incredibly happy and all the saints will be jealous of you! Bring someone very special in your life . They will love you for it!"

  • "My experience at Takashi was just a notch above disappointing. I've dinned at Slurping Turtle many time and have had nothing but a wonderful experience each time. I was very much looking forward to a wonderful dinner at Takashi but it fell short in a few ways. We ordered the Omakase menu with wine pairing. The amuse-bouche was fantastic, but then things basically went downhill from there. Each dish was visually presented within my expectations, but flavor of nearly all of the sauces and dishes seemed off or non-existent. With many of the dishes, I was expecting some amazing and interesting flavors, but was was not given that experience. After the meal, we actually went back to the menu to try the big eyed tuna. It was good but, not great."

  • "I really wanted to like it, but it was hit and miss. The Sauteed Maine Scallops and Soba Gnocchi was amazing. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the gnocchi was an added bonus. The cauliflower soup was also creamy and delicious. On the other spectrum, the ceviche was not edible. First, it was not ceviche, which was a disappointment. Further, the shrimp was at various stages of being cooked, with some of it completely raw. I tried it, but I really don't like the taste of raw shrimp, and the menu did not state that it was raw. Real ceviche is cooked with the acid of the lemon. This was not cooked. Finally, the trio of crudo was ok. The cuttle fish was delicious and melted in my mouth, but the other two were just ok."

  • "Our family (2 adults + 15 and 13 year old) enjoyed a lovely dinner at Takashi on Saturday. The food, a subtle blend of contemporary French and Asian influences, was very good. Service was poised and relaxed. Portion sizes, which can be too small at similar venues, were perfect. Our family enjoyed every dish - especially the crudo and the pork belly small plate. The duck was very nice as was the monk fish. Takashi strikes a wonderful balance between fine dining and a quiet, welcoming neighborhood gem. We will definately be back."

  • "I chose to dine at Takashi this past weekend to celebrate my husbands birthday. It was fabulous. We had the omekase tasting menu with a few extra courses that our server, Carlos, recommended. Each course was outstanding and we really enjoyed the generous beverage pairings. As mentioned in previous reviews, each course was presented in a unhurried and professional manner. They were all excellent with the standouts being the pork belly, and the chocolate egg course. We would definitely return for another meal. Wonderful experience. Thanks Takashi"

  • "Food was almost perfect. They overcooked our proscuitto wrapped monkfish but otherwise everything was excellent. The one knock I had was that they were too aggressive about clearing our plates. We were dining as a group and due to some issues finding agreement with the omakase menu, we went a la carte but shared each of our orders. The kitchen and staff were very accommodating and the courses were nicely paced. They were gracious despite the fact we stayed for 3 hours. Overall, I am happy to have gone again but I do think the service level dropped off in the intervening months since my wife and I's first visit. We would do it again, mainly because we are interested in kaiseki dining."

  • "I had heard a lot about Takashi from my friends before I dined with my husband. In spite of its wonderful reputation, we were very disappointed with the food! We expected more sophiscated Japanese & Western fusion type of cusine, but actually Omakase menu ( chef's recommendation) we had were Korean & Chinese cuisine with strong flavor and spices, except for scallop and soba gnocchi, which was nowhere near Japanese dish. I love both Korean and Chinese food but from the name of the restaurant and the fact that the chef is Japanese, we could not help but expecting something different. If you expect somthing Izakaya type of asian food, Takashi may be a great place to go. Having said that, if so, very pricey."

  • "A surprisingly wonderful experience in such a great neighborhood. While we got seated near the door which was not ideal for a winter's day in Chicago, everything else was pretty much spot on! The crudo trio and the pork belly appetizers met every bit of our expectations. Our entrees (duck and braised short ribs) were amazing, and then came dessert! The egg and pistachio macaron swept us completely off our feet. Not to mention, Chef Takashi came by and greeted my friend for her birthday as well. It was an all around, very, very great experience."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a cold and snowy night out at Takashi thanks to a gift certificate from my sister-in-law. We both loved the cauliflower soup with spareribs for a starter. I also liked the squash terrine and apple salad (which my husband calls "rabbit food"); a light and satisfying starter. I had the duck breast entree, which came with some awesome deep fried scallions ("those are some fancy onion rings," said husband). He liked his pork loin two ways except that he needed a sharper knife to cut his soy-ginger glazed loin. I ordered the delicious sticky chocolate cake. My husband ordered a spoon to share it! Appreciate being arrested on first floor though it was drafty. Hostesses moved a space heater to help out. Excellent service!"

The space is intimate and quiet, the staff is warm and informative, and the food is out of this world good. We had the 9 course omakase tasting menu and wine pairings. Each dish was a delight, both in palate and presentation, and the wines offered a lovely compliment. Highlights include the scallop served with the baby octopus, the yuke beef tartare, and the chocolate creme brulee. Our meal lasted about 2 hours and was expertly paced. We cannot wait to go back."

  • "I am French, and my wife and I went to Takashi to celebrate her birthday. It was both our first time to come here. Dinner did not start too well (we had to wait for more than 30 minutes for our table), but the overall experience was excellent, and I will definitely come back here for the outstanding food. While waiting for our table, we sat at the bar and had a drink. The bartender was skilled and time flew by quickly. We were not really attracted to the tasting menu, and we both ordered a starter, a main course and a dessert a la carte. All our dishes were very well executed. Ingredients taste, texture and French/Japanese combinations were simple, yet very well-balanced and refined. Definitely one of our favourite in Chicago."

The service was extremely attentive without being annoying or obtrusive."

  • "Attended Takashi for their 9-course menu for the evening (also their 6th year anniversary). Elected to order a bottle of wine rather than do the wine pairing for the evening. Very pleased with our wine selection. For this evening, the beginning courses featured light, sea-based dishes (oysters & monk fish). The rest of the courses were very rich and flavorful. Left the evening very full. The standouts of the night were the Celery Root Soup With Peekytoe Crab Agnolotti, Seared Day Boat Scallops With Chanterelle Mushroom Risotto, and "The Egg" dessert. The low of the evening was actually the first course: Miyagi Royal Oyster With Pearl And Caviar. The taste was not were I'd expect an Oyster to be at for this event."

Takashi is a creative and entertaining tour of Asian fusion cuisine. The food is amazing, prepared with only the freshest ingredients and the highest skill. We absolutely love the chef's tasting in order to maximize our experience of the kitchen staff's creativity. We also find the wine pairings to be quite expertly done. We took first time guests along during this visit and they enjoyed it as much as we did. We won't wait so long to come back again!"

  • "Because this was a special occasion we took in all three courses offered in the al a carte menu. Cold & hot appetizers and main dish. Everything was stunningly good. Each course we thought was the best. As we drove home, so satisfied that we skipped desert-not because we didn't want it, but there was no room for it, we said that the appetizers were outrageously stunning. Get different appetizers so that you can share. This meal was so much more than I anticipated, and having been here before, I anticipated quite a lot with the highest standards. The three of us were completely pleased with this meal. Now how often does it happen that each person feels they got the 'best'?"

  • "Was very happy w the meal but expected a bit more on the seafood fare and less chicken. Don't get me wrong, it was great but don't expect a pure sushi experience. each course was paced erratically. Some would come out right away and others would take 12 minutes. Be prepared for a 2+ hour experience. I also did the drink paring but would nit again. Just pick a medium bidied white or red and you'll be fine. All in All, worth the 1 Michelin star but see the room for improvement to number 2."
