20 minute wait for our table even though we had reservation. They asked us to wait on the patio. Nobody taking drink orders. Had to track someone down. Smoker on patio and we asked hostess about policy. Was told it wasn't allowed. She asked him to put it out. He did not. We finally were seated. Server seemed rushed. We asked about brown rice sushi. Server said sushi rice is 20% brown. Seemed like white rice to us. No water refills, not enough soy sauce. When we had finished, we were given a check. Didn't even ask if we wanted dessert so we went elsewhere. The food was decent but the server made no effort to explain menu, enhance our experience. She only took order, answered questions minimally and delivered food. Very disappointed.

I don't normally go to a sushi place mainly serves rolls with various twists - but Taka executes them beautifully, it's worth a visit. Their non-sushi Japanese food was really good - we were a group of 4, and of 3 were Japanese - and we all went home happy.

The sushi was sub-par, the bathroom did not work (had to go next door, outside of the restaurant...and I believe that is a health code issue), and the service was slow (even with the restaurant half full). I would/will not go back or recommend to a friend.

This is the only place in ATL that we ever eat sushi. The service is amazing and the quality of the food is always top notch. The staff now knows who we are and, as we walk in the door, they bring our beer and edamame as we are sitting down. The best!

My party of three were seated on the patio, but when we requested to be seated in the covered section of the patio we were told seating was limited to the uncovered section. After recieving our appetizers we noticed a couple of two arrived and were seated at a table for (4) in the covered section. There were wasps flying around us, and we agian asked to be moved. The waitress honored our request, but was obviously not happy to do so. We were re-assigned to the waitress in the covered section who too seemed a bit put off. There was no more waitress to patron interaction except what was minimally required to deliver the meals and pay the tab. The sushi was excellent, but the service was poor.

Very good sushi. Unpretentious. Many fresh items on the menu. Noticeably superior pickled ginger - they make it themselves. This was so good we ordered more several times! They accommodated gluten-free however the waitress said something had very little wheat in it so ok to try a little - people are still not educated well enough on food allergies to understand this is a life-threatening issue for some. But since soy sauce is a staple - (they do make their own) - it's clearly your own risk. They brought a bottle of 100% soy sauce & we're helpful in selecting items prepared w/o a soy/wheat blend. Good sake offering w/taste of 3 to choose. Lovely experience. We were there for almost 3 hrs and never felt rushed. Calm, attractive setting.

The sushi was very fresh and there were some interesting new rolls on the menu. The food came out as ordered and very quickly. We sat in the covered porch area and it was very nice. The inside of the restaurant is nicely appointed for a good dining experience. The only downside was we asked for a sake recommendation, since we knew nothing about a "good" v "bad" sake, and the server wasn't very helpful. Overall, though, the food was excellent.

Taka Sushi is fantastic! We focused our meal on small appetizers, mostly variations on sashimi. Each was delicate and distinct and delicious. The hot shrimp and crab appetizers on thin cucumber was really special. The two sushi rolls that we had were creative and first rate. Would love to live near Taka Sushi!

Having lived in Japan, I'll only say this is pretty close to an authentic experience as I remember and they serve exceptional sushi. TAKA Sushi is the real deal. I've lived in ATL for a long time and there's only one other place in the entire Atlanta area that I know of similar atmosphere and comparable food, and that one is Tanaka, in Alpharetta.

While visiting Buckhead where everything seems to be large restaurants these days with the help of Open Table I found this gem of a restaurant. Decent location except parking is kind of tricky. We went early on Friday evening, and the place became busier and busier through our meal. Our server was kind and polite. The food was very tasty, but coming out slow, which got us to order another sake... probably part of their plan ;) We will definitely make the drive again from Johns Creek.

We took the opportunity to go to Taka for our Christmas Eve meal. The place was lovely, warm atmosphere. Though we know that Taka offers a terrific menu of specials and entrees, my wife and I can never pry ourselves away from his fantastic nigiri. Fantastic quality, expertly prepared. Usually (always?) has special fish imported from the famous fish market in Tokyo, the name of which I can't recall at the moment. Regardless, always great quality and a strong sake selection as well. Highly recommend. Small dining room with a casual feel, even though it's very well decorated and suitable for a special occasion. They also have an outdoor dining area, though we've only eaten inside.

I was a bit underwhelmed. While the sushi freshness was average, it was merely a piece of fish laid on top of a rice-ball. I could have made it at home. The edamame looked and tasted as if it had been reheated several times. That said, this is Buckhead, a destination known for things other than cuisine.

We've been to Taka twice, now, and realize it will take a few more times before we get a handle on the menu. They seem to offer the most traditional sushi, made of the most fresh and flavorful fish, but there are more contemporary, Americanized dishes as well, but we could use some guidance with the menu. Our waitress spoke with a very heavy accent and seemed to be in a great rush, so that combined with the noise level made our selection experience feel like bobbing for apples with a blindfold on. All that said, I cannot emphasize how good the sushi and sashimi were.

  • Tricky to locate, the address
    OpenTable Diner Since 2014
    Dined on 11/9/2013
Tricky to locate, the address is a different building then the actual restaurant. When we reserved, I had requested a seat at the sushi bar . We we arrived, the chef/owner had other plans . After some confusion and having another couple move down a seat, we sat down. I reviewed the menu on line but they didn't have a number of things we had planned on eating. There was a great deal of confusion between the chef/owner and the server as to what was available. . We ordered a number of dishes that were surprisingly small (I have ordered these dishes in sushi bars around the world) and incorrectly seasoned. The sushi we ordered was fine; nothing exciting, but nothing wrong. I felt it was overpriced. Don't see any reason to return.

I had driven past Taka Sushi on Pharr Rd. for years but never dined there till last week. The sushi was nothing short of sublime. The atmosphere was very down to earth, like a neighborhood sushi ya in Tokyo and because of its authenticity, seems to attract Japanese customers, we will definitely be dining there again.

This was truly some amazingly good sushi. I've yet to have the ATL fish markets to compare it too but it was really very good. Quite a few Japanese businessmen where there. My only complaint was the sizes of the rolls just felt slightly small in comparison to the price paid which did fell a little high.

Taka is solid. Good flavors, good service, and really decent sushi at a decent price. We had a lovely evening--stand outs were tuna tartare, a special roll that consisted of spicy tuna and shiso leaf on top (yum!) and the udon noodle soup. For a Japanese spot, they also have a good dessert selection. Green tea mocha was tasty, as was the tempura pound cake--it was like a spice cake--with vanilla ice cream.

Been in Atlanta for six months and tried a few sushi restaurants that quite frankly have left much to be desired in terms of quality of the food. Taka serves excellent cuts of fish all around. I'm a nigiri and sashimi lover had the Hamachi, toro, salmon, cobia and more and I was truly impressed with the cuts and quality of the fish. Not a loud or great bar scene restaurant, go there for the food.

Taka never disappoints. The first time I went there years ago, I was disappointed when they were out of some of the most basic sashimi (tuna, salmon, yellowtail). Taka himself came out to apologize saying the fish delivery was rejected because it did not meet their standards. Hmm, not a bad thing especially when dealing with raw food. We ended up getting a bunch of stuff we normally would not have, and it was delicious. We have been coming back ever since. Be sure to ask about the specials that night as well. Enjoy!
