Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant was excellent. Get the flash-seared sashimi and sushi tacos to start - fantastic! Also, keep an open ear for the seasonal/periodic specials - how often do you get pork cheeks? We requested to sit at the chef's counter to for an inside look at what to order and what a double special treat that was...professional chefs performing their symphony and we also got some insight for things to order. Troy Guard really has something special with this group."

  • "Loved it. Service was quite good -- attentive and yet not in the way. Nice wine list. They made a mistake and nobody blinked -- corrected and with no issue. The sushi was very nice -- made for a fantastic appetizer. Loved the lamb I had."

  • "My favorite is the miso black cod. Every dish I've ordered here has been executed well. Generally a very good dining experience however this last visit, the seating was a little tight for our group and the restaurant was extremely loud."

  • "I have eaten here maybe 25 times in last five years - never had anything from the kitchen that wasn't delicious. ate there last week - had the miso cod - melted in your mouth with deep flavors. do yourself a favor and give it a try."

  • "We went on a Friday night - food was great as always (probably eaten there at least 10 times). However, restaurant was cold with draft coming through and the noise level was very high and we aren't old folks, must have said "what" to my wife at least 30 times during dinner. The music along with the conversation, kitchen and brick walls don't work well near the back of the restaurant. Probably would lose the music on a busy night, can't really hear it anyway over the other noise."

  • "As usual, the food was excellent and the waitstaff were very helpful and fun to interact with. Our waiter was super helpful with our 2 kids (8 and 10) who can be picky about "adult food." They were so happy with the selections our waiter pointed out and had fun interacting with him during the course of our meal. Thanks, TAG, for making my husband's 40th birthday dinner an excellent experience for all."

  • "The food was great and our servicer was extremely nice and gave us great service. But, it was extremely distracting and a bit awkward to have our server's derriere in my dinner companions face all night. We were there for a work dinner and by the end of the meal we both felt pretty uncomfortable."

  • "We started with a couple of appetizers and then each had a salad followed w dessert. The tuna tacos were great. And despite the waiter kind of dishing the kale salad, it was perfect."

  • "Service food and atmosphere was great. The menu, while short, has a broad selection so everyone in your party will likely find something they like. All of it was great and the service was great. Highly recommend"

  • "The food was nice, didn't wow me. I thought the kale salad was awkward and hard to eat. The Salmon was also hard to eat. with lots of bones. The service was fair. Slow for drinks and the waiter was a bit patronizing. I love session kitchen, bones, Humboldt farm fish and wine and parallel 17. This was just okay."

  • "Everything we ate off the small plates and raw section was so good! Our server had great recommendations too!"

  • "From drinks & appetizers to dessert everything was wonderful. Service was friendly, funny & attentive. Would definitely go back and recommend to others."

  • "I have been to TAG about a dozen times... Always bringing new friends. The food was exceptional as per usual, however I found a few items a little overly salted (ahi on the sushi tacos for example.) TAG remains one of my favorite spots for food, ambiance and service. Thanks for another great meal!"

  • "I consider myself a bit of a food snob. I do a lot of gourmet cooking at home so my expectations are fairly high when we go out to dinner. I've been to TAG on two other occasions and my experience was very good. On this last one, it was remarkable! Starting with the tease they give you at the beginning of your meal, to the brussel sprout/cauliflower appetizer, scallop appetizer to the main meal, every dish we had was an explosion of flavors. There was three of us dining and we each had three different fish dishes. The flavors of each dish was different but outstanding! It has fast become my favorite place to dine."

  • "Best meal and experience in Denver. We were given seats at the "chef's table" where we can see the chefs create their masterpieces and was a very interesting experience. The service was amazing- very attentive and also very friendly. Since I was only going to be in Denver for a few days, I researched and made reservations at other highly rated restaurants (Vesta Dipping Grill and Fruition). Tag was the best and I would be a regular here if I lived here."

  • "TAG was so AWESOME! This is our first time eating here and while we have thought about it in the past, we finally decided to give it a try after reading the other great reviews and we were heading to see Chicago at the Performing Arts Center! And got to say, from appetizer to dessert, it did not disappoint. The brussels sprouts and cauliflower were fantastic but the butter fish took the show! It was like butter in your mouth. And the cioppino (fish stew) was so so fresh and the flavors just melted together. This is a must on the Denver dine scene and can't wait for our next reservation! Love it!"

  • "Though we know there are several excellent restaurants downtown, this is our standby. We rarely order entrees and instead focus on the starters and creative sushi rolls offered and enjoy them as small plates. Service has always been outstanding."

  • "This was my first dining experience at TAG, and it was fantastic! Our server was very attentive and helpful! She kept us informed on ingredients of dishes for any allergies, and recommended a couple dishes and drink that were spectacular! I will definitely be back to TAG again soon!"

  • "I've celebrated my birthday at tag twice in the past three years. Tag never disappoints! The manager made the downstairs dining room available for a large party, even though it is typically closed on Thursday. The food was stellar, and the service was top notch. I highly recommend that you try this restaurant."

  • "The menu was filled with so many unique items; everything from sushi selections to full plates. We started with the muscles then I had a steak, which was cooked to perfection, and my date had two sushi rolls and the Korean short ribs. It was all so great I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite amongst them. Even their cocktail list was full of original drinks. I had a jalapeño kumquat mojito … delish. I would definitely recommend TAG and look forward to going back someday. Thank you for a great night."

  • "We sat outside and it was a beautiful night with comfortable seating. The best part of our meal was the taco sushi. We ended up having two orders as it was so delicious. We also had ribeyes and a seafood dish. They were good but nothing like the taco sushi. The desserts were amazing as well. Banana cream pie was taken to a new level. Out bill was pretty pricey by the end of the night but everything was really exceptional."

  • "Ket them know ahead of time that I was coming in after proposing to my girlfriend. When I got there the hostess asked if she said yes, discreetly of course. Then they brought to the table a card that everyone there had signed congratulating us. They also gave us a champagne toast. They did better than I imagined and would recommend them highly."

  • "Dinner was just OK. The ambience is nice and the service was great. My fish special was over cooked and a bit dry and the hangar steak really was a bit small. Especially for an inexpensive cut. The french fries were tasty but soggy. No great reason to rush back."

  • "I made this appointment on Open Table. I had noted on our reservation that we were going to be closer to 1:45pm. When I called to let them know that we were going to be closer to that time, they said they didn't have a reservation and that all of their reservations were already checked in. She went on to say they close at 2pm to get ready for dinner. Then WHY take my reservation when in the notes it clearly stated my timing? She suggested that I go to Tag Raw bar; not the same in my opinion in terms of ambience and service. I had a friend in town from out of state and was excited to share one of my favorite restaurants. Instead, we ended up at Tom's Urban 24 and LOVED it!! So great, we ate there twice this past weekend."

  • "Comfortable, casual but attentive service. Food was overall very good. A little loud so I wouldn't go here for a romantic dinner. Try the Carmel Cake"

  • "Went for restaurant week--suspected that it would be good because couldn't get reservation until 9:45 pm. Food was amazing--particularly the pork belly appetizer, duck entree and panna cotta dessert. I will definitely be going back very soon!"

  • "Four of us went to TAG for the last night of Denver 5280 Restaurant week. We go to TAG every couple of months, and we're never disappointed. Highly recommended!! The food is complex, interesting, and deeply flavored, with twists on the classic dishes they are based on."

  • "Tag is always a wonderful experience. One of our favorites spots in Denver!"

  • "We took some clients out for dinner here and had a great time! The menu was fun, creative and delicious. We also really appreciated our waiter's wine knowledge. We had some really good stuff! Thank you TAG!"

  • "We just moved from the Bay Area, and we took advantage of Denver Restaurant Week to try a few places. TAG offered a special menu, with a huge scope and good-sized portions. The steelhead crudo was better than the salmon at many California sushi bars! The Vietnamese beef heart was a lovely offering for Restaurant Week diners. We will be back!!"

  • "We took advantage of restaurant week to check out TAG and it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The flavor combinations of the dishes were bright and interesting, everything was cooked perfectly, and despite a full house the wait staff was quick and attentive. I'd highly recommend the sweet n sour smoked pork belly with green papaya slaw. I'll be trying out TAG Raw in the near future."

  • "For the past three years, we have chosen TAG as one of our restaurants to visit during Restaurant Week in Denver. Every year, we leave satisfied. We've sampled kangaroo, sweet breads, pork belly, Vietnamese beef heart, duck fat fries, and more. Delicious cuisine that gets your mind wandering, heart racing, taste buds yearning, and stomach craving more. The one thing that I would like to see some improvement on is the desserts. Although they have been adequate, they do not finish off the meal in an exemplary manner and are often not memorable. Being a dessert freak, this is the only issue I have with TAG."

  • "The service was inviting, friendly, and top notch. Wine list was impressive with price points for a range of budgets. The Food was excellent! Every dish from appetizer to dessert was incredible. My entree was the East Coast Cobia. It was the best entree I have ever had in my life. Ever. I will remember (and crave) that dish for years to come."

  • "We made a reservation at TAG based on Yelp reviews. We expected a decent, but not over the top experience. Wow, were we surprised! Everything we had was amazing! The Kobe Beef sliders - great start. The steaks - our friends' reactions made my fiancee want to stop being a vegetarian. The Miso Cod - yes, please! And finally, the dessert...oh, the dessert! It doesn't matter what you get, it will be amazing. Every dessert we sampled at the table was a win! TAG is definitely a must go, especially at the price. Average is a bit high at $25-$30/plate, but quality for the dollar is unbeatable!"

  • "The food was absolutely INCREDIBLE! We were so impressed with each dish. This food rivaled celebrity chef restaurants that you can find in NY and Vegas."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "The food was great, the service was just ok. The food runners were very knowledgable but our server was awkward and kept pushing a second cocktail on us when we didn't want one. We opted for family style small plates and ordered about 5 dishes. The food was fresh, creative and excellent but was very over priced for what you get. I love small playes but it's only worth it if you aren't being gauged for it. Maybe next time I'll skip the small plates and try the Entrees. We were stuck in the basement which wasn't very appealing and was very loud."

  • "TAG made our Valentine's Day wonderful. I was kind of worried about the prix fixe menu because they are hit or miss at some restaurants and sometimes when chefs are making the same food over and over their standards drop over the course of the night. However, the food at TAG was AMAZING and left us talking about how great dinner was all night to our friends. TAG has a lovely ambiance although it is rather noisy but that was to be expected given how busy they were. The only thing that was not as great as everything else was the service. It was rather slow and the server forgot to bring out my wine pairing with my dessert until I asked her. Not a big deal but only noticeable draw back and certainly won't stop us from coming back."

  • "I hate to use such a remedial adjective as blah to describe the restaurant but it is the best I can think of. We did that $95 a person Omasake. There was absolutely nothing special about this tasting menu and something I would expect any $30 a plate restaurant. All the flavors melded together, nothing stood out, and there was not one dish that I would rate about a six on the entire tasting menu. Everything was very flat and absent of complementary flavors. There was not a single dish that my taste buds go wow. The food was very disappointing. The service was quite good though."
