  • "I'm at a complete loss for why this restaurant always seems packed on weekends. Tried the rojo guac, three different tacos, and a salad. The best of these was the guac - it was good, but nothing special. Two tacos - a chicken pozole special and a shrimp taco - were both very poor. Flavors were very poorly balanced and not particularly complex. The final taco - a steak taco - was only okay. Again, not very interesting or complex flavors and the meat was very over-cooked. Finally, the salad was little more than a plate of iceberg lettuce and some black beans."

  • "The service was quick and the cost per person was very reasonable. We had 2 types of guacamole, salsa and chips to start and then got 2-3 tacos each. Our server was really helpful, friendly, and patient with us as we were having trouble choosing from all the options. I had been to the Lincoln Park location before and was equally satisfied with the River North location."

  • "Being from Texas, I love my margaritas. Unfortunately, Taco Joint's margs have minimal, if any, tequila in them. The two of us shared a pitcher of the standard frozen margarita (about 5 full margaritas) and felt less than tipsy afterward. As I am 5'2" and 100 lbs, I am used to feeling pretty good after one or two margaritas. Other than that we really loved the food. Shared the choriza queso fundito as an appetizer (definitely recommend!) and each had two tacos of our own. The tacos are small so you have to get at least two with an appetizer or three with a side. Definitely recommend this place, but if you are drinking alcohol, I would stick to beer or tequila shots!"

  • "The tacos were the perfect size for me. I love the estilo baja taco, my favorite! The service was great. The waiter was nice and attentive. This was my second visit to taco joint in one week and I'm ready to go back"

  • "Bartender was slow and seemed annoyed to have to make drinks. Service was much better last time we were there. Maybe understaffed this time as it took 10 minutes after we were seated for someone to even approach our table. The table next to us said they had the same problem and offered us sssome of their pitcher of margaritas. The server was friendly just too many tables. After dinner, went to the bar for a drink and it was nearly empty but the bartender was ignoring us and then took way too long to make a margarita and grab a can of beer."

  • "We enjoyed our first visit to Taco Joint. We had a Groupon for a taco flight, which included a choice of six apiece. The were all very good, with generous portions, as were the margaritas and choices of guacamole. The desserts were also great--the flan was the perfect texture. Make sure you get credit for the Groupon--our server forgot to deduct it and had to redo our bill. Otherwise the servicw was fine."

  • "The service at the River North location and the Lincoln park location is awful. Our reservation was for 9 pm and we didnt get sat until after 930. Our server was inattentive and seemed annoyed that he was working. The food is really good tho!! Margs are large and strong!"

  • "My first time to this 'joint'. We were a party of six and despite having reservations, we were seated next to the door in the bar. The draft was not too bad on this very cold night, but every time people crowded the host stand waiting for a table and as the bar filled, I was bumped by traffic to and from the door. Despite this, the food was excellent and reasonably priced. We shared several great guacamoles. I had one duck taco, one pork taco and spilt a chorizo flat bread. All excellent and I was stuffed. Margaritas were good, but a little pricey. This is a great place to start a night of partying in River North."

  • "Good for a night out with friends. Taco Joint has a clubby atmosphere and a scene ambience. The margaritas were a little sweet for my taste, but the beers were priced well and the tacos were very tasty."

  • "We had dinner at Taco Joint over the weekend and were very taken back by how rude the hostess was. Their computer had a "glitch" in the system and didn't have our reservation, even though I had my OpenTable confirmation number and a voicemail from the hostess earlier that day. She proceeded to challenge me and my reservation. Her manager was very helpful and helped resolved the issue, but the hostess was awful. She really needs to learn the service industry and how to be a good hostess. I wouldn't go back to that location just because of her. Overall, the food was very good, quick and delicious. The margaritas were AWESOME -- so many different options."

  • "The food and drinks are amazing here...but what was so special and really stood out to me was their amazing customer service. I was running late to my reservation due to trouble getting a cab, and they were so nice about it despite being very busy. The host still sat us within 10 min. Our server was so friendly and didn't rush us. Everything he recommended to try was so unique and impressive. Perfect dining experience and a fun night out!"

  • "The tacos were creative and offer something for everyone. The chips and guacamole come in different variations, we got the tomato one, which wasn't as good. However, the chips are amazing. Plantain chips are a must try! Service was attentive and welcoming. Great spot overall."

  • "Excellent Zocalo Margaritas and small tacos. The tacos were of a variety and very reasonable. Sad to see that the parent restaurant - Zocalo D.F. on Ontario Street closed, as we enjoyed go there and their food/drinks were excellent and that hug wooden bar was beautiful. But at least the Taco Joint stil stands."

  • "I have been to Taco Joint in Lincoln Park and loved it so I was excited when the River North location opened. I bought a groupon to do a taco tasting and margarita for 2. We ordered chips and salsa as an app and their salsa had a kick to it which was great for me. The Zocalo margaritas were strong but really good! For tacos I ordered the Lomo, Cochinita, and Chile Relleno (Monday special). The Cochinita definitely had a kick to it but it was not overpowering if you like spice. The Chile Relleno was actually my favorite out of the 3 though. The atmosphere is open, busy, and can get loud. This location is much bigger than LP's and the service is better too. It took a little while to get the check but otherwise everything was great!"

  • "A solid restaurant to check out with your girlfriends, particularly if you're looking for something casual and in the mood for some margaritas and small bites. Adventurous menu with items such as crispy duck confit or roasted goat taco. Must tries: - Guacamole: Comes with a variety of different types of chips, including taro, corn, and banana chips - Crispy duck confit taco The margaritas were great as well! Try the grapefruit margarita if you want to venture out of the traditional margarita. Restaurant is definitely on the loud side with the crowd and the music. A DJ was brought in on Friday night after 9PM."

  • "I enjoyed the food and drinks. The service was great as well, this was my first time and the waitress made great suggestions. I have never tasted a tortas and I must say it was excellent now I want to try other mexican restaurants to compare."

  • "Very good, but we made a reservation for 7:30 and they didnt get us a table till 8:45. Ended up eating at the bar. Food was good, hostess seemed frazzeled."

  • "Loved the food, the service and marguerites. But, as a first-timer in your Ontario St. location, the sound/ambience was so loud and disturbing, we couldn't hear each other talk. Please do something about your acoustics!"

  • "The tacos at Taco Joint are some of the best in the city. Weeknights after 9 pm and weekends after 10 pm you can get all your favorite, already cheap tacos for a dollar off. The best taco on the menu is the cochinita, but beware, because it is comes with a punch of heat."

  • "There weren't many people in the place, however, our drinks took 10+ minutes to come out and in the mean time our order was not taken for appetizers or food. Then when the order was taken, all items were brought at the same time. Absolutely no spacing whatsoever. We ordered two appetizers and they were brought at the same time as the main meal. The tortillas were cold and soggy and overpowered the meat which wasn't correctly seasoned either. Overall the only really good item was the Corn elote."

  • "My boyfriend took me to Taco Joint for Valentine's day, not so much because it is a romantic spot, but because I had been wanting to try it for a long time. We had reservations and were sat right away. Our server was very sweet, as was the rest of the staff. We ordered traditional guacamole, rice, barbacoa tacos, chicken tinga tacos, elotes, and I had the Paloma Negra. The food was absolutely delicious and even though we were full halfway through, we ate every last bite. I loved my drink as well. The atmosphere was fun and lively, a nice mix of other couples and bigger groups of friends. I would definitely come back and try some of the other menu items."

  • "My girlfriends and I wanted to good venue for an Anti-Valentine's dinner and this was perfect. Good drinks, guac for everyone to share, and loud so we could be loud too. We brought in paper valentines and Heart-shaped chocolate boxes and just had fun with it. The only criticism is of the service- the waiter was very slow to come to take orders. At a Mexican place you want drinks brought quickly and there is no way we could have done multiple rounds here- they weren't taking our orders!!"

  • "What a refreshing and fun dining experience in Chicago! You can sample lots of different menu items for a reasonable price for downtown dining. The atmosphere is definitely casual. I started with the TJ Flight – This is a cocktail sampler with a margarita, sangria, and a beer over frozen margarita. Nice offering and the price point is good for a drink in the City. My dinner guest had the Coca Cola imported from Mexico. We shared the Tres Guac – a trio of three of their guacamoles and some nice and tasty chips. This was followed by a total of 6 different tacos that we shared. Also tried was the Jalisco Mule (a little too much lime?) and a flourless chocolate dessert. When I return I will concentrate more on the drinks and guacamoles."

  • "Taco Joint is one of my favorites! Great flavors, variety, and prices! The only downsides were that this time there were fewer vegetarian taco options than I remember, and the fruit salad was not what I expected; it was just slices of fruit and veggies arranged on a plate, not really a "salad.""

  • "Food was good. Service was ok but waitress didn't really know the menu. The special taco for the evening was a goat taco - waitress explained goat tasted a little gamey - like steak. Not sure about most people but I don't think steak tastes gamey at all. Other than this, the tacos are very good and the setting is relaxed. Overall its a good spot."

  • "Great food at Taco Joint, however, I don't see a need to book reservations ever again. I booked reservations for 4 at 7:30PM and were not seated until 8:30PM. Long wait and I am positive the hostess forgot about us. We went up a few times to check on the table seeing vacant ones available but were told continuously that she will text us when the table was ready. Lets just say we spoke to someone else, sat down finally and I received a text 20 mins into our meal that the table was ready. Aside from that experience, we enjoyed the food and drinks and would return despite the crazy wait."

  • "I went to Taco Joint for my birthday the other night with my boyfriend. We had read great things and were excited to try their tacos. When we first walked in we were rudely greeted by the hostess who insisted that we had booked a table for 6, when in reality we only booked it for 2. She made both us feel right off the bat that we had done something wrong, even after I showed her the open table confirmation for only two. She then told us we had arrived too early and would have to wait, we were 2 minutes early. I understand the restaurant was busy but there were open tables and no need to put the blame on us for why we could not be seated right away. Other than that our waitress was nice and are good was great."

  • "The tacos were awesome! Priced really well and very tasty. However, our waiter literally disappeared for 30 minutes at a time. Took almost 2 hours just to get out of there. And to top it of he was not even apologetic about the bad service, he took on the mindset "just deal with it". No bueno."

  • "We love taco joint. It is very quiet on Sunday for lunch/brunch. We ordered chips/salsa & 6 tacos (4 cochinita, 4 barbacoa,1 lomo and 1 al pastor.) As you can see, our favorites are barbacoa and cochinita. Usually we just get the 6 tacos, but threw caution to the wind and added the salsa. I'm so glad we did."
