Diner Reviews
  • "We had a work dinner here with a group of 5 and it was perfect. John was our waiter and he did an excellent job taking care of us and also giving us recommendations. The food was delicious and we even got to take a tour after dinner. I highly recommend this place."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Tableau. The fried oysters were amazing. The Courtbullion was outstanding and the gumbo was great. I was just a bit surprised I had to take the shells off the shrimp in the gumbo! We had a frozen lemon dessert which was the perfect complement to our rich dinner. We will definitely go back on our next trip to The Big Easy."

  • "Our poached eggs plates were perfectly prepared and delicious. Trio jazz group really terrific and added to the ambiance."

  • "Our group each had a different entree for brunch and of course each person had to try everyone else's plate. It was completely worth it. All dishes were fantastic."

  • "My wife and I went here for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We figured Dickie Brennan's wouldn't disappoint. Buuuutttt, as we walked in to enjoy a high end dinner, we were greeted at the front door by other guests in shorts and ball caps. Not exactly my idea of high end dinning. Bad taste in my mouth, instantly. Food was good, not worth the price though, in my opinion. Service was outstanding! They made sure to note that it was our anniversary and thanked us for sharing this special event with them. Atmosphere was was a little bright, a little loud, but still enjoyable. I wouldn't deter anyone from going here. But, it's not at the top of my list to visit again. Nothing really to write home about but everyone has an "off" night."

  • "Four international foodies (one who works in the wine and spirits industry) met for dinner in NO. Tableau had great reviews and as a part of the Brennan's group, I expected a polished dining experience. It was ok. Our waiter was new in his position, but quite sweet. His major failing was forgetting to bring one of the coffees we ordered after our meal. The food was hit or miss. A couple of our dishes were outstanding - what we expected. A couple were quite salty, and one was cooler than it should have been. It is a beautiful restaurant in a lovely location, but I think there are other dining establishments nearby where you can get a better meal for the same cost."

  • "Had a very good experience from drinks at the neat bar to meal at our table. Service was excellent (at the bar and table), drinks were very good, and food was explained exceptionally well during ordering process and then Tableau delivered on quality food. Our first trip to Tableau; it will not be our last."

  • "Menu lists Creole Court bouillon. It’s a poor Cajun version with undercooked roux that tasted of flower. Duh! Creole is synonymous with tomato! Not a single piece in this dish. Second dish – seasoned batter, sautéed red fish with praline liquor. It came as a nicely cooked fish but with treatment totally indistinguishable from praline liquor and with blackened (burnt) pecan halves strewn about the plate. It does not work! We suffered through these for fear any menu replacement might be worse. And what impression left on tourists? Obvious nobody cares! Paying those prices you expect excellence in every menu item but won’t get it here. Shocker - it’s a D. Brennan restaurant. None in our circle will try it, we’ll see to that."

  • "In addition to having exquisite crepes and seafood options, the service and value pricing were excellent. Demi portions were offered at very reasonable prices so that many dishes could be sampled. Even the desserts were outstanding, and with generous portions."

  • "I've been visiting the French quarter for over 15 years. I've always walked past Tablaeu and wondered. It send too pretentious and spendy. Neither could be gather from the truth. Albeit, the dress code is "smart business" this is NOLA in June. Needless to say, we wore smart men's shorts and my business lather wore a cpvery casual summer dress. We were more than welcomed. As for the cost, most dining ides have them 3 or 4 $ - which typically tanslates to EXPEN$IVE. again, not true. We had an outstanding meal, with above notch service. Thank you and we look forward to our return."

  • "I was very happy to experience the much talked about Tableau! Of course the atmosphere was superb, as I had been told by others. Our cocktails were delicious and refreshing! From our appetizers to our desserts, the good was simply amazing. I must admit that my redfish almondine was the bet I have had in a very long time. We had the Pecan Pie Vol-Au-Vent for dessert which was fabulous and worth every calorie! All at a very reasonable price for a wonderful meal. I highly recommend this dining experience to you!"

  • "This renovation of a historic building in the French Quarter is beautifully done. You can't beat the location, right next to the Cabildo & St. Loius Cathedral. Don't miss sitting out on the second floor balcony with its gorgeous view of Jackson Square. The food was great. We got the Demi appetizer plate, fresh fish of the day with an accompaniment of crabmeat & artichoke hearts, and a tart with a vanilla custard filling and caramel sauce that was to die for. The service staff were excellent, friendly and helpful without being in your face constantly. Special kudos to the Maître D, a middle aged man who was very helpful to 2 women tourists sitting next to us. He gave them excellent tips about where to go and how to do things in New Orleans."

  • "I arrived early for my reservation. Since I had to wait for the rest of my party, I decided to sit at the bar and have a drink. I found one of the two bar tenders very interesting and very knowledgeable. I was then escorted to a table with a full view of the open kitchen. We started with the Grand Royale seafood appetizer. Fantastic crabmeat ravigote, shrimp remoulade, truffled crab fingers and oysters en brochette. Just enough for the 3 of us. I had the waitress choose my meal and was pleased to receive a fantastic version of shrimp and grits. Along the way we enjoyed very well made cocktails and fantastic, very attentive and friendly service."

  • "A friend and I had been to Tableau last time we were in New Orleans for a cocktail. We loved the view so much that I made a dinner reservation this trip. The hostess told us that a table on the balcony would have to open up, so we waited at the bar. It took forever to get a drink. The tab took just as long. Once we paid it, we were seated on a balcony which turned out to be completely empty. Although we had 4 different servers ask us if we wanted anything, it took 15 minutes to order cocktails, and another 10 for them to arrive. Another lengthy wait for ordering/receiving appetizers later, we gave up and left to go find dinner elsewhere. Neither the bar or the restaurant were busy, so the lack of service is puzzling. App's were mediocre."

  • "Delicious food, great service. I had the petit filet with crayfis. Creole surf and turf. The wife had the red fish with lump meat crab equally good. Dessert was the monkey bread pudding. All In all worth every penny. GO!"

  • "Beside the confusion the restarant had with our Opentable reservation when we arrived, we enjoyed our time at Tableau on Sunday. We were seated in the dining room near the jazz trio, where we enjoyed the music and a Bloody Mary, with all the groceries, while waiting for a friend to arrive. Our server Regg was friendly. The meal and service were good. I really enjoyed the turtle soup; everyone enjoyed the appetizers and entrees. After we completed our meal, we sat around for awhile to visit; we didn’t feel rushed at any time. Regg assured us that we were OK to relax and visit."

  • "We went here for our 2nd wedding anniversary & it was very romantic! The service was unbelievable! We had 3 people taking care of us & they did an excellent job! The food was very good & the portion size was perfect! I expected the prices to be pretty high but they were very comparable to the portion size & quality of food! We will definitely come back to this restaurant!"

  • "The bone in ribeye that I ordered was a bit on the cold side. We waited 10-15 minutes before the waiter attended to us and ask for our drinks. The decor is typical of the Brennan's group of restaurant. The portion was satisfying but the flavor fell short of our expectations."

  • "Would not recommend. Nice atmosphere but food was not so great Paneed veal lacked flavor and sauce was non existent. Lamb chops mediocre. Onion soup with chunks of beef was not good at all. Service was very good. Not one of Ralph Brenan's best rest. "

  • "This is a Brennan's restaurant and I had high hopes! Obviously too high! It was my husband's birthday and I booked reservations months in advance. We didn't get seated for over an hour after our reservation time!!! They had tables open all over the restaurant!!! Only after an hour of waiting did a manager come to greet us and apologize. Unacceptable. We will not go back. I can eggplant sticks, which we soggy, and shrimp cocktail any where!"

  • "This is one of the more upscale places in french quarters. The servers were quit snobby and the food was good, but not that memorable compared to other local restaurants. The one amazing dish was Bellini steak."

  • "Although we had a 7:00 p.m. reservation through Open Table, we were not seated until 7:20, and that was only after I spoke with 3 different staff on the matter. They said our table wasn't ready, but we saw several empty tables from where we were standing and waiting. There was also no apology offered when we were finally seated. "

  • "I had a business dinner at Tableau based on a referral and I was not disapointed. The main bar while i waited for my colleagues had a great ambiance, service and cocktails. Dinner was excellent with the best turtle soup I have ever had and the seafood was all fresh. All of our meals were stellar and the service was also very good. They have a ncie upstairs bar and it is conveniently located by Jackson Square and many hotels. I highly recommend this to anyone staying in the downtown area. "

  • "Reservation was late to seating us by about 20 minutes so we went to the bar. Bloody Mary's were very good. We asked for a balcony seating so the tables were limited. It was 30 minutes before the waiter took our food order. The manager felt bad for our service and gave us two free drinks and a free appetizer. I suspect they were short handed. Ordered a medium 6 oz. filet and it was on the rare side but tasted good. Bus boy was very good at refilling water. Overall the experience was less than expected. We ate at Tableau before with a private group and it was excellent. Bartenders were very good. "

  • "Foos was mediocre, service was awful, food was cold when brought to table, wine came after we were finished eating so we canceled it. Asked for refills on soda for my youngest child 3 times and never got it. Desserts came with melted soupy ice cream. Coffee was cold! Asst. waiter gave us wet dirty menus. Mine fell to the floor and then he picked it up and he put it onto the same cutting board as the bread , Gross! He had a hard time hearing our drink order and kept asking to repeat it, probably because it was so loud in the restaurant. Our main waiter rarely checked back with us re: how Our meal was or to bring us what we needed. My daughter's child's 3oz. Filet came undercooked (medium rare) when ordered as medium well. Bad experience."

  • "My wife and I cannot leave New Orleans without at least one meal at Tableau. It's usually Sunday brunch on the balcony overlooking Jackson Square. This past Sunday was no different. I got my usual crab fingers for my appetizer and they were delicious as always. The service was great and you can't beat the location. I really cannot recommend Tableau enough."

  • "rude and snooty staff, forced to wait for table with the place half empty. The waiter had rotting teeth, total turn off. My guest glass had a crack in it. Food was ok we had snacks. But strange texture to the cream cheese and pepper jelly. I live in Nola and work in the French quarter, have eaten there many time but will not be going back. To bad- it's lovely interiors. but to be this bad with soooo many great restaurants in Nola is really inexcusable. Anyone remember how Brennan's got run into the ground? same thing. "

  • "While Tableau is housed in a beautiful space, it is just another one of those run of the mill New Orleans dinner spots. The menu is quite pricey and the food is nothing special. The seafood gumbo had a nice dark roux and 4 overcooked oysters with no other seafood. My friend and I both ordered soup to start. Before we were finished? our entrées were shoved in front of us. The server stood there and waited for us to finish. Before we were finished eating our entrées they cleared everything including the bread-and-butter. Both ladies rooms had long lines coming out during the theater intermission. With all of the wonderful restaurants in New Orleans why would I go there again? The staff was nice yet we felt like an unwelcome demographic."

  • "We dined at Tableau last weekend. We were a party of 5. We all ordered different apps and dinners and all were A+…french onion soup with bacon, app sampler, filets with crawfish on the side, monkey bread pudding. The atmosphere had an old southern feel, service was excellent and I would definitely go back. The location was also central….right on the corner of Jackson Square."

  • "Had a gastronomic experience at Tableau. Great ambiance, attentive service, delicious food. Had Eggs Sardou at 9 pm. Fresh and delicious, perfectly poached. Reservations for 8:30 pm with my family. Service as good as it might have been for earlier dining. Never felt rushed as one does at that hour in most other restaurants. Well rounded menu and good portions. Liked the open kitchen décor and the trim on the pass through. Enjoyed the dining experience as did my family. Definitely worth a repeat visit with friends."

  • "It may be unfair to rate Tableau, since I had an incredible lunch at Peche before my visit. Trout Amandine and Meuniere? There was nothing on the menu that I could not have found thirty years ago in every French Quarter restaurant. We ordered the 3 small steaks, which were drowned in too much sauce, too sweet, too thick. As to service, it seemed well-meaning but amateur. The drinks took forever to arrive. Our seating was at 6 so the restaurant was mostly empty. It is huge, however, and in any excellent location. Great for pre-theatre meals at Le Petit. Probably good for a private party."
