  • "The mushrooms on toast are excellent. Great selection of beer and wine. The creme brulé was very good. Having spent some time in France I have found it difficult to find many restaurants here that describe themselves as French to actually capture the simplicity of real French cooking. Tableau does. The menu isn't cute or fussy, just a selection of dishes that are light on pretense and big on process... Just like France. A couple of wonderful beers from French Flanders and some wonderful French wines. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The roast duck was fork tender. A definite yes for those who love French food."

  • "My wife and I had brunch wanting to try the Chicken n Waffles and the Shaved Brisket Benny. Very very happy with the flavors of both meals. The chicken stayed crispy to the last bite. The Montreal smoked brisket on the Benny was an awesome surprise. Our server, Ed, was excellent. Our only complaint was the extremely loud group of patrons sitting nearby."

  • "We went on a Wednesday for the special "duck confit" - excellent - very similar to our duck in Paris! My husband has a huge bowl of mussels, my sister the seafood tagliatelli - both very good! My sister is in a wheelchair and they accomodated us beautifully."

  • "We were pretty excited about a first bite at Tableau as we've heard some good reviews and love the decor - intimate French Bistro. However the food was a disappointment. It was simply average. I had a shrimp & calamari dish to start which was just ok. The seafood was grilled nicely, but lacked any real flavour, so was rather unremarkable. As a main I ordered a classic salad nicoise and that was a true disappointment. The green beans were overcooked, the lettuce seemed less than fresh, and the seared, rare tuna didn't really have a fresh firm texture too it. The eggs in the salad were cooked beautifully, but other than that, I was quite underwhelmed. Don't see any reason to rush back since there are lots of wonderful choices in the Van!"

  • "We dined here most recently for Father's Day brunch and were not disappointed. As with other visits (brunch, lunch, dinner), we received good service (with French flair) and enjoyed delicious food. I had the smoked salmon benedict, my husband had a chorizo omelette, and our daughter had steak and frites (not on brunch menu but they made upon request). Orange juice and coffee were excellent. I love the decor here - elegant yet welcoming. It is a bustling bistro (does have TVs in the bar - noticed on this visit because World Cup was on). The adjacent lobby (Loden Hotel) is a very comfortable place to wait a few minutes for your table if that is necessary. Love this place. Wish I could stroll here from my house."

  • "My husband and I dined here twice in the last three weeks, with two different sets of friends. The first time I had the trout, which was excellent. Others had the seafood pasta and french onion soup, all well received. The second time I had the halibut special, which was just average - on the dry side, no special flavour. My husband's steak was also overdone. We had such a good experience at the restaurant the first time that we did rush back. The atmosphere and service, as well as reasonable prices were great both times but the food didn't impress us this last time, so while we will go there again sometime, it won't be soon."

  • "Three of us were given a table right beside the busing station and cash register, so there was constant activity right behind one of us, and a lot of traffic and clanking of dishes right close by. That was not promising. Fortunately, our waiter, Eric, was outstanding and made our evening. Perhaps he is that way with all customers, but it may have helped that there was an indirect personal connection. Whatever the reason, his service was charming, more than courteous, friendly, witty: he made us feel "at home" and put us at our ease. The food, of course, was superb, from the rabbit terrine all the way the the desserts. We would definitely go again, but hope for a better table next time."

  • "I recall coming here five years ago, perhaps the restaurant was under a different name,I can't recall but the intimacy is no longer there. This place was a real gem, but now you are seated inches from another party who can hear every word you say and vice a versa. Great place for lone business travelers looking to strike up a conversation I suppose. Definitely choose something with more space for a special occasion, but come for the food which is outstanding."

  • "We arrived 15mins early on a Saturday night and was pleasantly happy when we were able to be sat right away.Our server was a bit too energetic/persistent in taking our orders.It's a girls dinner and sometimes 3 of us are talking to much at first to really look through the menu.We order 2 of the nonalcoholic beverages but both were pretty bland.My other gfs beer seemed to be good.Starters were a board of cured meats and cheeses & the special of the night a pork hock terrine. Mains were a pan-seared halibut dish which was another special for the night it came on mash potatoes with a few morels which was sort of lacking but the tagliatelle with lobster and clams was delicious.One of the girls ended up booking the private room for fathers day."

  • "This was my first visit to Tableau. I enjoyed everything. The Kussi Oysters were divine! The Pinot Noir was an excellent wine. Light and fruity. My friend and I shared the flatbread of the day and I had the Steelhead Trout served over quinoa. Everything was delightful. Our server was very attentive. A great evening and I will go back there."

  • "I have experienced non-attentive servers and slow service in the past at Tableau. Recently I used my Tourism Challenge book at Tableau, and when we did not see the discount we were entitled to on the bill, we tried to bring it to the servers' attention. No one paid attention to us for a long time and when my husband walked up to a server, he was ignored. Then when the server finally came, she was extremely rude when she asked for my driver's license to verify the Tourism Pass, which I was perfectly happy to do but not when a server is being contemptuous and snarky. Even though the food is very good I will not return to this restaurant due to the negative experience and consistently rude service."

  • "The restaurant didn't official open until 10:30, which is when we had our reservation, so we were asked to sit in the lobby of the hotel, with back to the door of the restaurant. I was a little disappointed that no one announced that the restaurant was now ready. The seating was a little cozy, we felt a little close to the other tables (seating at the banquette), my latte took over 15 minutes to get to me after being ordered, but the taste and quality of the food made up for the initial frustration. My husband and I were enticed by the brunch specials; reasonably priced for the level of foodie experience for 16$ each. Crispy pork belly, boudin noir with morels, wild asparagus, egg and potatoes was AMAZING! He had the breakfast poutine."

The tables are extremely close to each other making it hard to get out of your seat. It was also ridiculously loud in there... definitely not a place to go to if you want to actually hold conversations."

  • "I took my mom for Mother's Day Brunch the other week and we enjoyed it very much. The service was great and the ambience made me feel like I was in a different city other than Vancouver. The food was good - but nothing unique or outside of what Vancouver usually offers. My mother and I enjoy seafood very much, so we had the oysters, spot prawns and salmon eggs benny. All three were delicious, but again, not out of the ordinary. If you want to enjoy good food with ambience included, you should definitely try Tableau at least once. I think their dinner menu is a little more unique than their Brunch Menu. The service was great and our server was very attentive. They also have a nice patio to enjoy the sun! "

  • "I went to Tableau for a birthday dinner a few weeks ago. The food was top-notch (my short ribs were melt-in-your-mouth delicious) and our waiter was stellar. The only drawback keeping the whole experience from being 5-star was that there was a large, obnoxious group seated close to us who were shouting (and often swearing) through a lot of their meal. This is not totally within the restaurant's control, but made it hard for people in our group to hear each other. We were in the back half of the restaurant with the high ceilings, so the acoustics may have been particularly loud. Other than that, my first visit to Tableau was great - I'll definitely be back. "

  • "Le Tableau is a little gem on Melville Street and little also refers to the number of seats which make it necessary to have a reservation. Many items would be great to share, the portions are small, but very tasty. The atmosphere is casual but charming. We had the Halibut special and it was delicious. "

  • "My lunch consisted of a 1/2 head of iceberg lettuce and a few pieces of chicken. There was may $5.00 worth of food on the plate that cost over $17. In addition, my lunch companion's salmon was terribly under cooked. Not impressed whatsoever. We won't be back."

  • "Our party arrived for mothers day, after having made a reservation several weeks prior. Upon arrival, the hostess could not find our reservation on their booking system. System failures do happen, so that was understandable. However, I did not appreciate her presumptuous excuse, that 'a lot of people book weeks or even months in advance' as a reason for her not being able to find us a table. No apologies were offered for the mix-up either. When finally seated, the food took over an hour to come. Our server was also very snappy and impatient, and did not check in with us at all. The food was mediocre at best - but it was really the poor service that left a sour taste in our mouths. Will not be returning, that's for sure."

  • "First time having brunch at Tableau and it was perfect. I prefer a simple clean meal with fresh ingredients that doesn't have you leaving needing to go back to bed! We had shared the Lobster salad with a poach egg, and Zucchini and Onion scones, both perfectly cooked and paired great with our mimosas! The best part was the featured grilled spot prawns and was happy we indulged in a 1/2lbs with breakfast. "

  • "Tableau wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that great either. My friend ordered the duck and I ordered the steak. Duck was quite flavourful and well cooked. The steak, in my opinion was quite bland. The seating arrangement is quite crammed. There was a table of 4 next to us who were fairly loud so it was a struggle trying to speak to one another. Service was superb though! "

  • "Tableau's burger is soooo delicious and the perfect portion!! The only thing I did not like was the fries that came with it. It was soft, soggy, and not seasoned. I like my fries crispy and golden.. The time we went was later in the day, so it was very quiet and nice :) I would come back for the burger, but I will substitute the fries with a salad instead."

  • "You are greeted by a friendly hostess. The waiter was VERY knowledgeable with all the specials and regular food items. He was there when you needed him and not there when you didn't want him. The food came at great intervals so that you could sit and chat and enjoy your company. Never interrupted. Fantastic food and fantastic ambience!"
