A word from Table Donkey and Stick
Located on the edge of Logan Square, Table, Donkey and Stick is a neighborhood restaurant offering seasonal fare and a unique selection of beer, wine and spirits honoring the eating and drinking traditions of the Alps. Chef Scott Manley's menu features creative, seasonally driven small and large plates, complemented by a rotating selection of charcuterie and artisan cheeses. The kitchen works with local farmers and whole animals whenever possible; all breads and charcuterie items are made in-house. The beverage program focuses on small-production wines from the growing regions surrounding the Alps and their new world cousins; unique craft beers; and brandies, bitters, liqueurs and house cocktails inspired by the rich tradition of craft spirits in Alpine culture. Table, Donkey and Stick is a place to gather with friends in a warm and comfortable environment. The focus is on the table: a place for food and drink, but also for story-telling and fellowship.Continued

  • "Can't say a bad thing about this. Great food, notable cocktails, wonderful ambiance and staff."

  • "I always go to TD&S for there Monday deals... I have never tried items off there full menu but the Monday specials are always awesome. I have probably gone 5 times so far and it was always good"

  • "They just added a bar -- great idea! Excellent small & unique dishes."

  • "Love the name of this restaurant. The staff was wonderful and friendly. Drinks delicious. The chartreuse was very good, but very expensive for the portion sizes--small. A tiny two bite of cheese $7. My sons burger was very good with latke-like potatoes. The grassfed steak was 4 small strips and costly! From where I sat in a small back room you could see the refrigerators. This I didn't like. They had just completed a renovation so maybe this was why, but really? One choice for dessert which had celery in it, making it a hard sell, but it was good--again small. The other desert choices were the same cheeses from the appetizer."

  • "We both ordered the chef's tasting menu and thoroughly enjoyed every plate. Much of the emphasis seemed to be on braised root vegetables, robust greens and sauces, even for the meat dishes, but this suited us just fine. Serving staff was very helpful and recommended good wines to go with the dishes."

  • "Fun restaurant, wanderteller is a great starter for a group to nibble on. Definitely get the crispy tripe with house giardiniera and the pork belly with lard drop biscuits! All biscuits should be made of lard. The vegetarian cabbage roll sounds interesting but ends up falling a little flat. Service is friendly and unobtrusive, the restaurant is cozy and they have a great gin & tonic!"

  • "We dine out a lot so for our Valentine’s dinner I chose an off-beaten path spot that sounded intriguing. Restaurant called in advance to announce that they’ll have a $70, 5-course menu V-day weekend, which sounded fine. Until we got the recommended glass of wine -murky and sour! I’ve never seen or tasted anything like that in a restaurant that charges so much for a pre-set menu! We settled for another wine by the glass but the “ by the glass” wine selection is uninspired and short. Food was mainly ok (but not first two courses: oyster &trout) but sizes were miniscule - we stopped for a snack after dinner - not an outcome you want after spending over $200 for a meal. I really regret I didn’t stick with one of our classic dinning choices."

  • "The Valentine's Day menu here was an incredible value and every course wowed me. From the cured sea trout with celery and celery root, to the beautifully cooked aged duck breast with fried garlic and candied kalamata olives to the gorgonzola cheesecake dessert that I was so skeptical of, but blew my socks off combining the pungent savory creamy cheese with brandy-soaked olive oil sponge cake and TCHO dark chocolate mousse and shavings. Plus, they have a mean grapefruit gin tonic that pairs well with everything."

  • "Very interesting food preparation. Warm, knowledgeable service. Very small space, some tables in hallway (less than ideal). Look forward to returning after they renovate this Spring."

  • "Rich, rustic, and affordable. The charcuterie board has amazing options, especially the pork rillette and smoked whitefish, and the main courses are all satisfying as well. The service was wonderful, and the drinks were great too. They could increase their prices and it'd still be worth it for everything. We'll be back, and often."

  • "I had dinner a few nights ago with the family at TDS and had high expectations. Between the history of the location (formerly Savoy Truffle many moons ago) and the creativity of the menu (not to mention the name), I was excited. In the end, the food was slightly above average and overpriced, which is unfortunate. In fairness, we did not survey the menu, but we did have several small courses, and a couple of the entrees. My measuring stick (judge as you might): if you are going to put a burger on the menu, it better stand out like your ambassador. Here, it was more like being greeted by the assistant to the ambassador-- dressed well, but lacking any real personality. Unfortunately, too many other neighborhood gems to try again."

  • "Donkey's food was very intriguing. The wanders' were small plates but with amazing taste and concoctions that no one has ever thought of. Very unique. Ambiance was filled with Radiohead and a touch of postal service. If the donkey renamed, it would be the bearded hipster. Overall I gave it a 4.5 because it was only close to perfect. I felt a minor rush throughout the night. Waiter coming by the table and asking if we were ready to order every 2 minutes. Also, while eating, if I were to have just one sip of water, there would be someone there to refill. Overall, I recommend anyone but the weak stomach to try."

  • "We have been here twice and the food is imaginative and delicious! The wine list is thoughtful and contains many imaginative selections. A great small neigborhood place with some communal tables for groups."

  • "Small menu but if you aren't picky and want delicious food -- give it a try. The service was fantastic and the ambiance and décor done to perfection."

  • "This is a place where you need to be a little adventurous! They have a lot of unique food like chicken livers, beef cheek and duck liver mousse. They all were wonderful - its a perfect place to push the limits in terms of food. The service was fantastic - try to sit in the back room, its farm tables with a fire place and is really fun."

  • "Cheese and the meat platter are good. Wine choices were lacking. We sent a wine back that had turned which we have only done one other time in our lives, over that time we have ordered thousands of bottles. Our party of 4 thought the food overall was not that good. Server was very nice."

  • "Food was both inventive and delicious. Also had some great cocktails and beer on offer. Wait staff was extremely knowledgeable. Small space means it fills up quickly. Located near intersection of Armitage and California, which some may find locationally challenging. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back again very soon."

  • "We had a great experience at Table, Donkey and Stick. The serving staff was super knowledgeable and clearly excited about the menu. The food was all excellent, especially the wanderteller selection. My dad is a bit of a wine guy and he was impressed by the interesting wine list. Overall a great experience, we will definitely be back."

  • "Amazing food, awesome service. As someone in the service industry I can only say good things about this place. The good was top notch, the server made sure we didn't order too much for our group and we were wonderfully happy. Thanks for making my birthday great!"

  • "What a great restaurant! our waiter was so personable and helpful, food was great, beer and spirits list is really interesting but not unnecessarily long. i just can't rave enough about this place. my wife and i take our dining out seriously and were just blown away."

  • "We sat on the patio around sunset and ordered 3 small plates, an entree, and some cocktails. The frog legs were phenomenal! So was the rabbit. The two of us disagreed over the cured salmon but it was my personal favorite. Our entree was the pork belly - a sizeable portion. Overall the food was perfect. Cocktails were a little strong, we really only needed one each after stopping for a glass of wine prior to dinner. The cocktails were reminiscent of Gilt Bar. Definitely worth a repeat visit."
