Everything from the food to the service to the ambiance was as good if not better than restaurants in town, but with out the attitude. After dinner we stolled down Canton Street to enjoy the energy of the area. We started with the hush puppies appetizer to offset the effects of the martinis we ordered. They were OK, a bit heavy (to be expected I guess with hush puppies) and we didn't finish them. We both had the scallops, and they were well prepared and tasty. My biggest gripe with the restaurant was the noise level, which was so loud (this was a Wednesday night) that I could hardly hear my companion sitting next to me. Canton Street is not very parking friendly, so we had to search for a parking spot for a while. For a quiet dinner with a little less background noise, I would suggest another venue. This restaurant is amazing!Smple southern cooking done to absolute perfection. The fried chicken is among the best I've ever eaten, and I've lived in the South all my life and eaten plenty of fried chicken. Service was stellar. WARNING: if you have an addictive personality do not, I repeat, do not eat the Bourbon Butter Pecan ice cream. Don't say you haven't been warned. The bar is small, but the bartender was friendly and helpful. We were seated indoors and the waiter was attentive, friendly and well informed about the menu. We ordered 2 appetizers to share, which was more than enough. The shrimp and grits were tasty and fresh, prepared with not too much cheese, the fried chicken excellent and the roasted brussels sprouts yummy. Had cherry pie and bourbon ice cream for desserts. The list had old favorites AND brands that were new to me, which I love trying whenever I get the chance. The menu was simple, brilliant, and everything we had was AMAZING. I rarely finish an entire dish when I go out, but I seriously could. Not. Stop. Eating - the food is just perfect. Our server, David, was awesome - definitely knew his stuff and made great suggestions on everything from beers to entrees. We are all foodies and critical by nature. The atmosphere is pleasant enough -- Terra meets Manhattan. The service was excellent all night. The suggested wine pairings were unique and spot-on.
But, on to the food. I can recommend the grilled pork chop as the best I have ever eaten. They must use a smoke gun to get that much flavor. The grilled fish of the day was a small portion but good. The tomato and leek compote with it was excellent. The Bourbon Butter Pecan ice cream is must. The most unique and memorable thing we had all night is the Hog 'n Quilts. It's the chef's takeoff on BBQ sliders and slaw-- outstanding.

Can you imagine gourmet fried chicken? I had not before Table & Main. I love the old house setting. It's a low key and casual environment, but upscale southern food.
