  • "Taberna Tapas is a great spot to order small portions of food to share. You can try a variety of foods with a Spanish flare paired with some sangria, wine or cider. The atmosphere is cozy and quiet enough for tables to talk without yelling. I would definitely visit again."

  • "This was recommended by my daughter, and we took her and her friend there for her birthday dinner. It was delicious! The bacon wrapped dates were scrumptious. The chicken wings were the best every - slow roasted with the meat falling off the bone, unusual for wings. Even the brussel sprouts were good. Everything was good; the service was just right. And, we got a reservation for a decent dinner time, unlike another nearby unnamed tappas place. I'd like to go back because there were a number of menu items we didn't get to try."

  • "This was our 3rd or 4th visit in the past year. Our food (love the butternut squash dish) & service were great - as usual. I even liked the brussel sprouts. Try the bacon wrapped dates. Weather was beautiful, so we sat on the back patio (who knew there was a back patio?!). Ambience of the patio was lacking. A little attention out back (perhaps a few planters) would go a long way so it doesn't feel like we're sitting next to a bunch of electric meters. We'll be back!"

  • "Girls dinner group always looking to try new places. Several dishes were purchased and all had rave reviews. Our wait staff person was superb, she gave us great suggestions, delivered food at a good pace, and was spot on with multiple checks."

  • "First try at this place and we'll definitely be back. Good variety and quality and moderate prices. We had 6 plates and all were great. Service was prompt and courteous and they were busy. Worth the trip!"

  • "First visit with some colleagues. The food was good, nothing really complex, more of basic food options, everything we ordered was good. The service was very good when we first arrived then by the end our waiter seemed to disappear. Waited about 20 mins for a cheese platter for dessert that was very underwhelming. That was the one thing I was very disappointed with, the waiter did not describe the cheeses on the plate, there were 3 different types with a small bowl of strawberries and green grapes, for the long wait I was expecting something better, very basic."

  • "I went there for the first time based on online recommendations. I was so pleased with the variety of food options. We started with drinks. I had a white sangria that was very good for a warm spring day; the cider my friend tried had a very unexpected flavor with its olive hints. She enjoyed it. I would have probably sent it back. The food was delicious. We started with bacon wrapped dates. Highly recommend those. The other things we tried included a fried pork dish stuffed with ham over potatoes, brussel sprouts, and a spanish omelette typed item that included potatoes. It was all wonderful, full-flavored and at a great price point for a nice meal. 4 dishes, and 2 drinks was about $25 per person."

  • "This is a great addition to Durhams dining scene. It is small so make reservations. Service was quick and portions generous. Great place to eat before going to DPAC."

  • "Loved the food and the friendly service. The music is also great, not loud. Very comfortable and easy to hear. Have the bacon-wrapped dates!"

  • "We are so glad we decided to try Taberna Tapas before catching a show at DPAC. The service was excellent and the food creative and tasty. Reading the menu made it feel like we were in San Sebastian, Spain. I only wish we had time to sit for hours and enjoy the small plates for slowly with paired wines. Great options for vegetarians too."

  • "We were a group of 6 and all give it an A+ for food and knowledgable and personable server. Wood floors make for good sounds level - easy for us to talk with each other without having to shout. GO, you won't regret it!"

  • "Visited Taberna before a show at DPAC. Loved everything we tried. The small plates give you a chance to try many different things and each one was unique and delicious in its own. Flat bread came out with oinions after we requested "no onions" and the waitress took it off our bill without us asking. Fantastic drinks as well! We arrived at 5:00 as the first guests, and when we left at 6:30 it was packed! Will definitely be back!"

  • "Food was great. Server was having an off night I think, but nothing that would ruin a night. We'll definitely be going back!"

  • "Excellent food and great atmosphere. Best Spanish tapas in the area! Reminds us of Barcelona."

  • "Our 2nd time here. The food is flawless, but they only had 2 people serving/hosting/bartending/cleaning up. We sat for 30 minutes until drinks showed up, and dinner was literally over an hour. Hope they choose to fix it."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our night out. Tapas was very good, service was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant."

  • "Met friends here for dinner and had a very nice time. Service was, for the most part, outstanding - the lone bartender was having a tough time getting drinks out fast enough, bless her heart - and the food was good, although in comparison I have to say that Mateo (just down the street) is way above Taberna. Decent wine list, but the Mojitos were waaaaayyy too sweet and light on liquor and mint."

  • "The menu was very approachable and the food was wonderful. Our waiter was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable."

  • "This was my second trip. The first time my husband and I went for dinner, and it was very good. This time I took my daughter for lunch, and it was just ok. Maybe lunch just isn't as good as dinner, but I felt it was equally expensive. We were the only two there for lunch, but eventually another couple came in. I would recommend this restaurant to others, but only for dinner."

  • "Amazing food. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The bacon wrapped dated are a religious experience. My only complaint (if you can call it that) is the space is really tiny. So the tables are very close to one another."

  • "No one seems to know about Taberna Tapas, at least it never seems full. yummy food, great service consistent menu and a great wine list. We got here regularly. I did not get to taste some of the menu items that interested me most (members of my party had food restrictions) so I will most definitely return. There was a snag with our reservation and the fixed it immediately and with good spirit."

  • "All the dishes I had at Taberna were delicious and well presented. The sangria was outstanding. And I could get a short-notice reservation before 8pm (unlike at the other nearby tapas restaurant). I'll be back for more, no doubt. I haven't had the bacon-wrapped figs yet!"

  • "Our group of three had a selection of six tapas. Each one was unique and tasty we also each had a glass of special recipe sangria (two red and one white). Service was friendly and attentive. We also especially enjoyed the lovely Flamenco music playing softly in the background. Thoroughly enjoyable experience."

  • "My tip for Taberna... change locations. Your restaurant has wonderful food and great service, but the restaurant is way too small. On a packed weekend night, you can literally "rub elbows" with the neighboring party. This place would be great for a date night with more space. I have also been here for lunch and it is a FANTASTIC value. Plus it is not as packed, so you can actually enjoy your meal and not wonder if your neighbor has overheard all of your conversation (because they are literally right next to you). Overall, 3 stars!"

  • "The staff was incredible rude, rushed around the whole time in a panic, and none of our food was coordinated with delivery to out table. It took over 30 mins to get the Brussels sprouts, another 20 to get some potatoes, and finally we had to leave to make a show. They made no apologies for the wait or slow service. I would not go back."

  • "We enjoyed our pre-theater dinner here. The bacon wrapped dates and patatas bravas were especially tasty! We ate at the cute little bar instead of a table. The atmosphere is old world meets cozy chic. I also had a mojito (in the winter!!) that was FAB!"

  • "This place has a good calm cozy bistro feel to it. The food is good and they have lot of good flavors going on there. The hostess and the staff were kind and helpful. They have vegetarian version of Paella, something I have been meaning to try for long. I am very happy with it."

  • "My wife's vegan, I'm not - but I've found the vegan dishes are awesome! The meat/cheese dishes are delicious, but I'm finding the vegetarian/vegan dishes are even better. I'll continue to validate this on our next visit."

  • "Love the menu, the cocktails, wine list, and cider list - service is great and prices are reasonable. This place is much more unassuming than the other tapas place down the street... and for about 3/4 of the menu, just as good, or better!"
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "We had a great meal of tapas before seeing a show at the DPAC. The service was attentive and helpful. The only drawback was how small the restaurant is. Despite that, we will definitely be going again."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "Glad we could get in at the last minute and get out on time for a DPAC performance. Our first visit at a friend's recommendation. Crowded, loud, impersonal, wildly overcook calamari. Won't make an effort to go back."

  • "Delicious food. Great variety. The service is impeccable. (Try the dates wrapped in bacon, outstanding!) Or try anything, I haven't eaten everything on the menu (yet!) but everything I've tried has been wonderful."

  • "Lots of choices so a group gets to taste a variety of dishes. They were all really good, including the dessert options."
    Dined on 2/19/2014
  • "The food is excellent. even thought the tables are very close together you still have a sense of privacy as eaters tend to focus only on their own table. Great service. Have been several times and have enjoyed each trip."
    Dined on 2/19/2014
  • "Food was great but inexplicably management scheduled only three people to work the hostess desk, bar and restaurant despite it being a theater night at the DPAC. Those on staff hustled all night long (and we were there a long time) and comped their mistakes/oversights but they were let down by management."

  • "This was a great little find out with friends. Order 9 or 10 different tapas to share. Sweet potato fries, eggplant chips, and the vanilla caramel flan were excellent."

  • "We were disappointed with the tapas food at this restaurant. Food was mediocre. The ambient was nice. Though our waiter was nice, the service was slow - took long to get food. The concept of tapas is a drink with small dish but we did not get any food for a while. They even forgot about one dish which came, after we told our waiter, as cold (should not be a cold dish). It is a cute, small tapas restaurant and we liked the ambiet but it is unlikely we will go back to this restaurant unless they improve the food. Mateo has a far better food than Taberna."

  • "food was very underwhelming. we had just been to mateo down the road, and for the same cost had a much better food experience. their charcuterie platter was overpriced and boring. the brussels sprouts were mildly interesting. it is hard to believe this place gets 4 stars."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Had some incredible food here. The chicken wings and bacon wrapped dates were incredible. A mushroom and rice dish we got was very underwhelming and had no flavor. Bartender was great! We had a reservation but there was no room, so we had to sit there."

  • "Great place for a special occasion and has a good European feel. Did not feel rushed to finish each course and was given time at the table in true European style. Reminded us of being back home in Spain!"
