We had a. nice evening with
friends. Good service , good value , food unremarkable."
Dined on 2/27/2014
The night we were at T-Rex, only
about 1/3 of the tables were occupied. Our order, all sandwiches, took over 15 minutes to arrive. The servers were very attentive, just the kitchen seemed slow. This was not a problem for us, we were having a catch-up dinner with old friends so we had plenty of time to chat. If you're in a hurry, maybe tell your server at the start. Everything was very tasty. We'd definitely go back for another laid-back evening."

Had both types of ribs served
here. The meat was dry and cold. The side of beans (also cold) and coleslaw were simply awful. Service was friendly but place seemed understaffed. This could be a good turnaround story for "Kitchen Nightmares"."
Dined on 2/16/2014
We got a table in the corner asked
for on OpenTable. Our group of 6 enjoyed selected meals. The food was to rich for my soul and one has to indulge every once and awhile so no complaint. The beer selection was thin the day after Valentine's Day and the crowd too. So a good night for going to dinner. Less crowd equals less external volume for conversation."

I would recommend dining if you go
with a large group and is kid friendly. I was disappointed in the portion size for the price...could have offered more food and the service was just ok. The food was tasty!"
Dined on 2/15/2014
The appetizers were great but the
main dishes were not. I went to dinner with my wife, my cousin and her wife and the service we received was awful. Our waiter was rude and careless, the food was dry and bland. It just wasn't what I was expecting. The manager tried to make things better by assisting the waiter bit by then we had, had enough."
Dined on 2/14/2014
Only negative was the ribs were
served Luke warm. Must have been siting on the serving counter too long."
Dined on 2/1/2014
Went there for early dinner during
the week, and had a good experience. We sat on the second level overlooking the open kitchen. Waiter was busy, so we had to wait to place drink order. Once he finally got back to us, we ordered drinks, as well as our entrees. The entrees arrived before the drinks, and the waiter apologized and explained that the bar was really backed-up. Food and drinks were good; my friend had the Crab Cakes, which were nicely presented with a side salad. I had the Pulled Pork plate, with mashed potatoes and beans (recommended by the waiter). It was all good, but when we finished, I could not locate the waiter for a take out box, so the hostess brought me one. Overall, it was nice, but I wasn't really impressed."

I came on a Sunday afternoon
desperate for brunch and was happy to see they served it until 3p. The host, Greg, kicked things off right by being awesome. We sat upstairs with a great view of the game. I was surprised by how good the menu was, not to mention the food! The home fries are delish and they spared no expense on the goat cheese in my omelette. My friend was thrilled with the grilled salmon po-boy saying it was grilled to perfection. I will definitely be returning to try many other menu items that caught my eye. When you go, try the beet salad (yumm) and the garlic fries!!"

The last time we went here, we
really enjoyed it. This time, not so much...The waitress came after about 15 minutes of waiting for our appetizer and said she just put the order in because she thought they might be out of one of the main ingredients (not a great reason!) and that it would be coming just a few minutes before our food. It came with our food. To their credit, they comped it. The jalapenos we had asked for on the side weren't with it so we had to ask twice. The dish was good, though. They didn't have the cold-smoked steak on the menu that had us so excited on our first trip. The food we did order was pretty good, but the cornbread was burned in the middle so half of it wasn't edible. Not chomping at the bit for our next trip."
Dined on 1/24/2014
Waited 45 minutes before waitress
took our order. Restaurant wasn't crowded, just understaffed. Food was marginal at best. They cover everything in gallons of BBQ sauce in hope that patrons don't notice the mediocre food beneath it. There are better restaurant options in the area. Wish we had picked a different place."
Dined on 1/23/2014
If you are a meat person, this is
the place to have lunch. Food was good, restaurant was clean & staff were very friendly. Will return to T-Rex if ever in the neighborhood."
Dined on 1/18/2014
Decided to try something different
& went to T-Rex. There were 6 of us (including an elderly relative with a walker) and ALL of us truly enjoyed our meal & experience at T-Rex. The BBQ meals & desserts were GREAT!! (It takes quite a bit for me to say that, but it's true.) Although I requested that we be seated on the floor level (due to ease of access for walker), they have a lift to the 2nd level that is easily accessed by a walker. The service was great with lots of suggestions & the staff all seemed quite personable. We can't hardly wait to return!"
Dined on 12/29/2013
I was really looking forward to
this reservation, the pulled pork was very good. I also got the burnt ends hoping to be blown away, not so much. They were really hard and chewy, not much flavor. Their ribs and Brisketlooked good but did not get a chance to try. I will return to give those a go. The service was prompt, during lunch hour. Wasn't really busy was kind of surprised. Beware of their spicy bbq sauce it has a kick. Salad with your choice of meat on top looked good too. Beans I was really disappointed in I was expecting more flavor all I got was heat out of it."
Dined on 1/15/2014
The food was good but the service
was bad. We waited for a long time for our drinks and check. The server blamed everything on the "new" bartender. But while we waited 15 minutes for our check we watched our server try to open a bottle of wine at a neighboring table. She didn't know how asked another server who told her how and she still couldn't do it and the guest at that table had to open their own bottle. I know it is hard with a larger group but we had to walk up to her and tell her we wanted our check."
Dined on 12/26/2013
We've been there twice before and
both times were fun, but it seemed a bit under-cared for the last time we went. I'm not sure we'd want to try it again at this point."
Dined on 12/31/2013
I was looking for a restaurant
that was open on Christmas Eve evening. This was one of the few places that was open and had room for our group of nine. Unfortunately, by the time we got there, several of the menu items were sold out. My husband and I ended up sharing a large order of the dry rub ribs, which I had never had before, and shared a caesar salad, upgraded to mac and cheese instead of potato salad, and an order of cornbread. Everything was absolutely delicious! It was more food than we could eat, and we ended up having enough for dinner the next day. The vegetarian had plenty of choices and was happy with his food. It was a little pricey, but for all nine of us, with only one alcoholic drink, it was less than $200, including tip."
Dined on 12/24/2013
This is my grandson's favorite
place for his favorite sandwich pulled pork so its a tradition when he comes to visit the food is good all the way around always fun place to go"
Dined on 12/26/2013
T-Rex was one of our favorite
restaurants, and then, as we learned a while back, ownership and management changed. From our perspective, the food and service really suffered and we did not go back for a long while. However, we took a chance and discovered that the old management has been put back in place and our experience was very good. While the food was very good, it does not yet quite match the old days, they may need some time to perfect the fries, both garlic and regular, and get some great desserts back on the menu. But it was worth going back to check on the progress"

I choose this restaurant for my
birthday to make my husband and 2 sons happy with the many BBQ choices. But I am on a very restricted diet. I had the salmon and have decided it is the best dish in the bay area for my low sugar and fat diet. My boys loved their ribs, mac n cheese, corn dogs and beans. But the real treat that made our night, was the wonderful waitress Johanna. She was sweet, friendly, informative and very efficient. We will request her section when we return. At one point, since I had so many questions about the food, she brought out Ryan the chef, who was patient, kind and very responsive. Although there are TVs with sports playing, the atmosphere is bright and airy and relatively quiet. We highly recommend this restaurant."

Decided to give T-Rex a go 1 more
time and we had a much better experience this time around. All of our dishes were quite tasty and we were fortunate enough to arrive in time for happy hour specials, so that helped price-wise. Only negative around the food was that their homemade potato chips were so salty that no one could eat them at our table and we had 3 portions of them between our dishes. The only other negative I have is the amount of smoke that accumulates in this place. I'm not sure why their fans aren't pushing it outside instead of allowing it to create an actual cloud on the 2nd floor. I have to leave my clothes outside for 3 days because they are so smokey. Would be nice if they fixed that."
Dined on 12/1/2013
the food was not great except for
excellent macaroni and cheese. brisket was fair, but deviled eggs were great. inconsistent across various options we ordered. atmosphere was fair, staff was friendly, however."
Dined on 11/29/2013
We had not been to T-Rex in over a
year, and we probably won't go back again. Although the restaurant was only about half full, the service was haltingly slow, and the food was really disappointing. Spare ribs were much too fatty, and the side veggies (broccoli rabe and kale) were very very oily. Where did the cauliflower go from the menu? Our server was very friendly but didn't get the details of the order right. Overall it was a big bummer."
Dined on 11/9/2013
T-Rex uses very good quality
meats, and sides are very good. But "Carolina Pulled Pork" without a hint of vinegar-based BBQ sauce". Similar with "Memphis" ribs and ""Texas" brisket and "Kansas City" ribs. No hint if the special preparation of meats that make those regional BBQ styles special. Only the "one-style-fits-all" BBQ sauce in squeeze bottles on the table. Actually, pretty good food if you don't expect what the regional labels promise. Good ambience, available parking, very good sides. But just don't expect any authenticity to the regional BBQ styles promised on the menu."

We took out-of-town friends for
bar-b-que and found this terrific place right down the street in Berkeley. A friendly, efficient place with really tasty ribs and a huge variety of draft beer. The Cobb Salad at $11 is in a huge bowl and is one of the best ever. When I couldn't make up my mind discussing my second beer with our server, she brought me small glasses of two beers to help me select one. I'm looking forward to a return trip . . ."

The baby back ribs were awesome!!
The cornbread is worth ordering and so is the mac and cheese with bacon!!!"
Dined on 9/7/2013
Came here with a group from work;
my first time but others had been there before. I had the southern fried chicken which came with to die for garlic mashed potatoes and a crunchy mixture of green beans. Definitely great! Definitely worth coming back to!"
Dined on 8/30/2013
The service my boyfriend and I
received here was phenomenal! Although there were not many food choices, I enjoyed the food I did get (pulled pork sandwich, which was VERY messy!). I recommend it for date night.. Especially after an hour training at the Krav Maga gym down the street. I definitely enjoyed it!"
Dined on 8/19/2013
I've been to T-Rex many times
since it opened and I'm never disappointed. Sure, I can get BBQ for half the price, but for big groups who like their BBQ and mac-n-cheese with fun, flavorful drinks--this is the place. Of course, there's plenty leftover for the next day and it tastes better! And the Happy Hour is such a value for the quality of the food."
Dined on 8/4/2013
Looked forward to ordering
beignets. Waitperson informed us that they'd been taken off the menu. Bummer. Generous brunch menu."
Dined on 8/4/2013
The only issue I have with the
restaurant is that the "lounge" chairs at many of the tables are too low. I had to sit at the edge of my seat in order to be at a decent height to reach the table, and I'm 5'6". BBQ is messy, so this could be a problem. Otherwise, the brisket was SO good, love the sauce and the peach cobbler was devine. I've been on Weight Watchers and I was able to make decent choices for that program and still feel like I had a great meal. I will be back!!"
Dined on 7/21/2013
Enjoyed the food, just good old
fashioned comfort food."
Dined on 7/17/2013
We were seated in the corner at a
cramped, dingy table. The food was served incorrectly with numerous mix ups, plates were too small for the food, and the quality of our dinner was only fair. The waiter tried his best but T-REX is a mess."
Dined on 7/15/2013
The food is great - tasty and well
seasoned . . . and very generous. But the noise level is terrible! Can't hold a decent conversation without going bonkers."
Dined on 7/14/2013
First time T-Rex diner. Great menu
selection and tender meats to satisfy our party of 6 ranging from teenager to 90 year olds. Excellent service!"
Dined on 7/14/2013
What a noticeable difference from
last year to last night & unfortunately, it was not for the better, either. We waited at the hostess stand for someone/anyone when the hostess finally quit flirting with guest at the bar to grab menus and seat us. no greeting - had to remind her that we had a reservation and ask her to note that we made it. took 20 min for waiter to come by to take drink orders and then another 10 for bartender to determine that they were out of usual scotch - other (rather lightly poured) drinks were served and then another 10 min wait for mine - had to pull other waiter to bring mine. Lots of "mgmt" types but most were busy chatting with regulars. for 3 of us - a $170 dinner that was not even mediocre."
Dined on 7/11/2013
I would not recommend this place
for its food,service or ambiance."
Dined on 7/4/2013
We returned to relive one of our
favorite brunch traditions, only to find that the things we loved most were gone. The cornbread used to be notoriously decadent, covered in honey butter and maple syrup. This time it was just plain cornbread. The duck confit used to be crisped to perfection. This time it was soggy with huge potato chunks and unrendered duck fat. The waiter brought the birthday girl a piece of cornbread with a scoop of ice cream on it. It was thoughtful but weird tasting. With 12 folks working and only a few diners, service was still inattentive. The host called me twice and texted once during our meal to see if we were going to show up for our reservation. The highlight was the Barney Rubble: a bloody mary with a rib on top."
Dined on 6/22/2013
My teeth went on edge when the
hostess greeted us with "Hello, guys." The colloquialism need to be "Hi folks" for an all-female group. Next, they didn't have the prosecco on the menu and asked to substitute yellowtail bubbly. It was much sweeter [not a good thing] and I don't even know if they gave us the same price as the Italian prosecco. My baby back ribs were, as advertised, dry rub. They were very meaty so a good value but people who like fatty ribs will not like these. Also, without asking what kind of sauce I wanted, they brought mild. Weird. The two others in our party ordered the grilled salmon, which had a lovely smokey flavor and came with nice asparagus. We would go back but it's not our go-to place for sure."
Dined on 6/20/2013

time was had by all."
