  • "Went here for brunch and were not disappointed. We always go to the farmers market but we have never been to their restaurant so we were pleasantly surprised when we finally had a chance to try it! Food were fresh and organic and chef-made. There is always something so good with good that are served seasonally. We will be back!"

  • "We've been meaning to check this place out for a while now - and I'm finally glad we did. The food is top notch, as exemplified by the incredible corn fritters and salty + savoury lobster poutine. Service was outstanding. We will definitely be back."

  • "It was a fantastic night we were greeted at the door with a smile and a warm welcome we were seated and not long after we were sipping our favorite drinks. We took our time ordering and even were asked if we had questions about the menu or would like recommendations, our server was absolutely one of the best servers I have ever had she was friendly, and really took care of us and made us want to come back, the food was extremely good I love a good steak and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We will be back and will be telling all our friends about it."

  • "We knew going in that anything cooked in the smoker would be amazing and it was. What we didn't expect were the desserts! We ended up sampling 3 of them and they were absolutely perfect. Who would have thought a roadhouse BBQ joint would have desserts to beat anything the downtown hotspots could produce?"

  • "Really fun place with great food. Western theme, felt like the old wild west. Will definitely go back for dinner or wings and beer!"

  • "Interesting spot with character and unique menu. Great farmer's market upstairs also!"

  • "Server was not familiar with the menu and could not make any recommendations. Salad is lacking in quality and quantity pricey. Flatbread was dry. Service was slow"

  • "It's great having the Roadhouse up here in Sage Hill area.. awesome spot to go, especially because we can walk over. Food is absolutely amazing!! Wings...OMG awesome! Go on Wednesday, half price! Food there has never disappointed us, it's always fantastic.. We'll be back again and again.."

  • "We went for brunch and thought they had a good selection, great food , great atmosphere. The favorite was the breakfast poutine ! They did a awesome job with decor inside the restaurant. Waitress was very helpful and clearly proud about what they served."

  • "We've been to Symons Roadhouse twice and both times were memorable! The food is a surprise in a place so out of the way and it's worth the drive. I had lobster poutine both times and would have it again in a heartbeat. The wine is reasonably priced at $8-$9 for what I thought was a generous glass. Service was good too - even though it was quite busy the first time we went. So far I've had the aforementioned poutine, the lamb, calamari, chicken and all were delicious. My husband had the pulled pork sundae -it was okay but wouldn't order it again with so many other amazing choices. I love that they don't have a huge menu so you know they're making a few things really well. I also love that many ingredients come from the market upstairs."

  • "Thank you Symon's Roadhouse for giving us a real food option in the NW. Yes, a bit of a drive but worth it. Great western ambience. An interesting food list with a western theme that delivers quality, flavour and value. We've eaten there twice, the second visit with a group - all meals were excellent. The well marked detour during road construction on Symons Valley Blvd wasn't a problem to get there. The rejuvenation of the old Symons Valley Ranch is a bit of Calgary History in our own back yard. Kudos to all who have given us this great restaurant and market. Be sure to enter and park from the east side of the buildings."

  • "We went to the Symons Roadhouse for our anniversary dinner. The food was excellent. The muscles and fries were a delicious appetizer. Our main dishes were great also. We will definitely return for the food. We were disappointed with how close together the tables are. Conversation at neighbouring tables can clearly be overheard. The close proximity to other patrons was slightly uncomfortable. Despite this, we will return, knowing that a romantic spot it is not."

  • "Was really hoping to be able to give a lot of stars! We need more good restaurants in NW Calgary. Howeve, could not do so. The BQ pork shoulder (and we were there on BQ Thursday), seemed a little bit like too long in the steam cabinet. Presentation was colourless, taste just okay! Both of us had the 'shoulder' - in retrospect we should have ordered different dishes - to give a better assessment. That however was not the case, but we collaborated on this review. Neither of us will rush back, but wish to hear that our experience was a matter of our questionable choice."

  • "We enjoyed our evening! The serving sizes were just right. I had the beef short ribs: very tender, very flavourful. The BBQ shrimp and grits appetizer was gresat."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "The only downside I can report is that there is not any signage on 144 to help you find this place! Nor is there sufficient direction from the market upstairs. Navigating on foot is impossible and so you must drive, the entrance is on symons valley road which you don't see because access from that direction is inaccessible due to current construction. Once you get there your senses will be delighted by the delectable food and cozy ambience, I would definitely go again...now that I know where it is ;)"

  • "We took the whole family and we found it hard to decide on something from the menu, it was quite small for main dishes"
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "The food was absolutely delicious but..........the menu lacked an appetizer soup or salad, we had a nice side plate for bread, but there was no bread and the presentation was very plain. Correct these minor issues and the dining experience would be perfect"

  • "There were 4 of us who dined here Wednesday after work. The restaurant was pleasantly full and the atmosphere was fun. We had an assortment of appies that were all beautifully presented and delicious."

  • "The food was quite good. You better savour the few bites that you get. Don't get me wrong, I am not a big eater, there literally was not enough food. $32.00 for a steak dinner . . . I shouldn't leave hungry. Don't expect to get any bread beforehand either. There are no extras here at all . . . not even a mint as you leave. Very disappointed."

  • "This was our first time dinning here and everything was really great! Service was fast and very friendly, food was outstanding, my boyfriend said it was one of the best steaks he has ever eaten and was cooked to perfection! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "went there for Father's Day brunch time; great service & food & ambience (for a roadhouse). We wanted the lobster poutine & although it wasn't on the brunch menu, we pleaded to our server & she asked the cooks & they obliged...fantastic gal & the food/poutine was devine. we highly recommend this dish & the whole place. we will be coming back."

  • "Great food, good service but the atmosphere leaves a little something to be desired. The tables were too close together and seemed to have more than a couple of tables with very loud patrons. Made it hard to hear who I was having dinner with. Maybe dining room and bar should be a bit more separate?"

  • "The Roadhouse is a great addition for those of us living in the far NW. Everyone seems to rave about the lobster poutine but it's definitely not worth the $17. Tasty but not life changing. The short ribs were great as was the bison burger, paparadelle and pork. Everyone enjoyed their sides which ranged from cabbage to cauliflower to mac'n'cheese and french fries. For dessert we tried the Pineapple Upside Down Cake and the S'More. Both were delicious and just the right size. Most dishes were reasonably priced around $20 with only a few creeping up over $30. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and the rustic décor was a nice touch. It’s great having easy parking and with reservations there was no wait! We will definitely be back."

  • "Nice to find Kevin Turner's brand of fresh western food in a setting that seems like a scene straight out of Gunsmoke. Turner takes all the best produce from Alberta growers and ranchers and gives them brightly flavoured twists delivered in the tantalizing dishes that arrive on your table. Local free range chicken meets anchiote paste, short ribs braised for days meet asiago mac n' cheese. The industrial-sized smoker in the parking lot has inspired chef to play and pork is the muse. Desserts were not forgotten and left us refreshed instead of sorry. Local draft beer complemented the food we chose but the wine list was ample too. Service was friendly and attentive. I'll go back and take a bigger group."

  • "what a great option for northern calgarians! we are so excited to have a great place to go without having to go downtown and deal with parking. loved everything! the food. the cocktails. the decor. the overall feel. the only thing we did not try was dessert as we were too full. we can't wait to come back!"

  • "We've been to Symons Roadhouse twice now. Had a great time each time. Our favourites Short Rib, Bison Burger, and Pulled Pork Nachos. Prawn, Avocado Salad was lacking in flavour. Symons Chopped Salad very nice and tasty. The Lemon dessert was nice, light and refreshing. I would not order the Banana Pudding next time. Very dull and not very tasty. Hope to see more items such as a "smoke platter" they apparently had one for a feature one time. The host who greats you is awesome and makes you feel very welcome."

  • "While the menu looks interesting the food served does not meet expectations. Had the carbonara which was served as a plate of over cooked gooey and startchey linguine. Also had the mussels which were served with fries on top. Would have been better on the side. Asked for bread and got a dry stale bun. The place was less than half full at 6:30 on a Friday night. Perhaps others had the same experience? Unlikely to return."

  • "A friend and I recently had dinner at the Roadhouse. Being a fan of Kevin Turner I had high expectations. Unfortunately they were not met. The lobster poutine was good. Not enough sauce although the fries were great. The mussels were a big disappointment. The sauce tasted like unseasoned cream poured over them. Totally lacking in any seasoning or flavour. Th BBQ pork was great as was the short rib. However the Macaroni and cheese was lacking an important ingredient. Cheese! It was a bad white sauce with no cheese and no flavour. Very disappointing. "

  • "I don't know how many times my wife and me passed around the northern 'central' NE (that is between Centre St. and Deerfoot) searching for a decent dining spot and were disappointed. no more! the Roadhouse is more than decent. in fact, the Crispy Chicken is one of the best in town! The pork ribs are as smokey as hell and succulent as well. Complemented by a mostly local breweries' beer list - this is a great place to take people who just landed at YYC and are in search of good local food fast. Oh, and the farmers market they put up at the old farmhouse sure is neat. "

  • "Symons Roadhouse is a fantastic addition to the area, the food is excellent. We really enjoyed the lobster poutine, big chunks of lobster and really flavourful with the marscapone cheese. The pork ribs were delicious as was the carbonara. The beef short ribs were delicious too but the portion was a touch on the small side and left my husband who ordered it and our friends husband eager to eat from our plates. The s'more dessert was excellent. The selection of beers and wines was excellent and very reasonably priced. My only complaint (although we will be back regardless) the chairs were not very comfortable for any of us having dinner. Otherwise love the food, love the decor and looking forward to coming back."

  • "We visited on a Friday night and the place was bustling, which is kind of surprising since it's a bit out of the way. We shared a lobster poutine between three of us and three days later we were still talking about it. It's soooo good. Our table had the bison flatbread, bison burger and the pulled pork sundae. The sundae, while imaginative, was the least liked item at the table, but still it was delicious. Reasonable wine/beer prices and selection added to the meal. Save room for dessert. Our waiter was busy but attentive. I'd go back to Symons Roadhouse in a heartbeat and have already recommended it to many people."

  • "Even with reservations we were seated at the very front at the entrance where people were coming in and waiting. We asked to be seated at another table of which there were many and were told that they were all reserved. This unfortunately set the tone for the evening. Which was our anniversary celebration. We ended up choosing to sit at the bar instead. Being a Friday night it got really busy. When you sit at the bar the bartender has his hands full filling drink orders and taking food orders. He tried his best. The food was delicious. My tenderloin was cooked to perfection and for that reason I would give Symons Roadhouse another opportunity to impress and hopefully the service will be better. I love the ambience that has been created."

  • "I booked Symons Roadhouse for a special birthday dinner. I loved the atmoshpere. The dining room was full with reservations. The staff were all friendly. The wine list was good with several selections that were not run of the mill. We started with the Lamb Meatballs which were delicious. I ordered the Pork Ribs which were extremely tough. They had a dry rub that was not very flavourful and just made the ribs even drier. My boyfriend ordered the Sirloin steak medium rare and it arrived very well done. Even our server grimaced when he showed her and sent it back. The replacement was cooked perfectly, but the steak was ordinary. Unfortunately we left thinking there would be no reason to return for the food. "

  • "It was VERY quiet when we visited Symons - 2 tables were occupied. It was Thursday evening so did expect more customers. The short ribs were very good but the mussels were merely adequate. The signage could be better, we came on 144 Ave so did a turn of the upper parking lot before discovering the lower level. I would hope that the exterior will be improved over time as it looks shabby - something the restaurant is not. We probably will give it another try."

  • "Restaurant about half full on our arrival. The four of us sat for a good 15 minutes before anyone even looked our way. Food is very pricey, and not what one would expect in a country like setting. Tried once and likely not to go back."

  • "It was such a pleasure to discover the renewed Symons Roadhouse. I was expecting the same bar type of food and instead was served fine dining fare. Some of the entrees are priced a bit high so this will discourage just going out for a bite to eat. Instead, you would need to save it for a special occasion. The lobster poutine was amazing. Some crusty bread to soak up that sauce would have been great!"
