SylvainOutstandingHad a dinner version of scallops only offered as appetizer that was fabulous! Their fried eggplant is, I think, the best in the city. Waiter was knowledgable about wine and very professional and helpful with suggestions. Will definitely go back.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent!Always a lovely experience; excellent food and excellent service!!! Nita6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for dinner! The menu is creative and fresh. The waiter was especially knowledgeable, and described the dishes down to the ingredients, almost as if he were the chef. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. I would definitely go there again!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Hidden Gem in the FQWe went to Sylvain on the recommendation of a relative who frequents the restaurant. Small quaint dining area with an outdoor courtyard just steps from Jackson Square. We had two sandwiches, Pulled pork with collard greens and a fried chicken sandwich, both were great. Their signature cocktails were great as well using house made bitters and freshly squeezed juices.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you haven't been, GO!Fantastic cocktails and food. The service is a little slow ... I wouldn't go if you're pressed for time ... BUT ... Sylvain is a destination-quality restaurant, so make dinner there the main event, relax, and enjoy yourself.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good foodOne of our new favorite spots in the Quarter. I wouldn't say that it makes our list as a "can't go to New Orleans without going to this restaurant", but I could see us going there a lot in the future.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went here for our anniversaryWe went here for our anniversary and it was an amazing experience. The food was prepared to perfection and we couldn't be happier. I would reccomend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice meal.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLet's all go to SylvainI had a party of 4 to eat at Sylvain and we all had a different appetizer and entree and sampled each others. I had the pork and it was very good and the collards were very well prepared and the blend of the entree was quite nice. It is a relatively small place but that adds to a very vibrant establishment. This should be on a short list of your lunch choices.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMLittle gemTried Sylvain after reading it was a small, quiet place in the heart of the French Quarter NOLA.
The geography is correct but the place is big enough and has an energetic crowd, excited about the food.
Sylvain has real creativity, like chopped broccoli salad with hazel nuts. Like a beet bruschetta with mustard vinaigrette.
It's all good. Recommend it.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe fish special - speckledThe fish special - speckled trout with basil breadcrumbs was delicious! As was the gulf shrimp dish, though it was a bit heavy on the butter. Cocktails were fantastic as well.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSlllllooooowww NightThis place lived up to other's reviews. The food was very good, but the service was EXTREMELY slow! We waited almost a a half hour for our simple, single appetizer; and then at least ONE HOUR for our food. If our conversation had not been so good, I would have left. No restaurant is worth such a wait. While the server was knowledgeable about the menu, he did not even come to apologize about the slow kitchen. And I must note that it was not an unusually busy night. Pretty outdoor dining space.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMadorable quarter optionSylvain is a great non-touristy option for eating in the French Quarter. The restaurant itself is adorable and cozy (its a small space, and the tables are very close) and the service was great (very attentive: my water glass was never less than half full; and very knowledgeable). The menu has interesting options for everyone, and everything we had was delicious; although the Wagyu Beef Belly, Shrimp Pirloin, and Scallops entree were especially good (the scallops were seared perfectly!) I would recommend to anyone.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely a hidden gem thatDefinitely a hidden gem that is fit for foodies! My husband and I had a great meal here (we ordered the beef cheeks and gulf shrimp dishes). Service was on the slower side but it didn't bother us. A great spot in NOLA if you are looking for something different from traditional NOLA fare. Highly recommend Sylvain!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AM3 times in a week, it must be goodThis is a true gem. Fabulous cocktails, great food, superb desserts. What could be better? I would have to think on that one.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMJust the Perfect SpotWe love New Orleans and I'd say that this is one of the best meals we've ever had in the city. Everything was perfect. The menu was varied and interesting- not the same-old-same-old list found in French Quarter menus. The outdoor courtyard was rustic and quaint. Service perfect. Most of all, the food was yummy - an A+. I can't wait to go back. We were there for brunch and enjoyed the crispy pork shoulder with eggs and the pan seared scallops- both the the most amazing grits cooked in sweet cream. Robust, yet smooth coffee. Thanks Sylvain!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMbest meal we had this tripWe had the beet bruschetta, shaved brussels sprouts, gulf shrimp and pork shoulder. All were fantastic. Our server was excellent, friendly and made great suggestions. I only wish we had saved room for dessert. We sat outdoors and it was lovely, quiet and intimate.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousI was in town for work and stumbled on this gem while looking on OpenTable. I will definitely be back the next time I am in town. Everything was perfection.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMNOLA resident rates - Best in City!Sylvains is a perfect little gem hidden away on Chartres street. The food is amazing and I honestly don't think there is a bad dish on the menu1 I would start with the beef belly and then have the scallops for your entree! Excellent service! We bring coworkers here when they visit from out of town and they are always impressed!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was really quiteThe food was really quite excellent , from the salad through dessert. The pacing of the courses was too quick, however, as we received our main course before the bottle of wine that we ordered for dinner and before our salad plates had been cleared. The service was attentive, accomodating, and flexible as we switched tables from outdoor to indoor. Also our wait person was very pleasant.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBest all-around in NOLAFactoring in everything, Sylvain is easily the best dining experience you will have in New Orleans. Somewhat hard to find but the food is excellent and atmosphere can’t be beat. Ordering cocktails at the bar is a must. The bar tenders are like chemist using precise measurements and at times, eye droppers to add the in-house syrups and mixes.....make sure you try the Dominique's Departure.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMPortland meets NawlinsSylvan was excellent. Clever combinations and very tasty. Really enjoyed the atmosphere, the cocktails and the food. Has a definite hipster Portland-like approach to traditional Nawlins fare that was refreshingly different from other restaurants in the Quarter.
Loved it.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMa little dark and very colda little dark and very cold when AC blows inside
love the vibe of place both inside and out
love option of eating at the bar5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food and atmosphere.Absolutely loved everything about Sylvain's! The food was amazing, the courtyard was beautiful and the service can't be beat. Had quite a few meals in New Orleans but this was by far our favourite. You can't go wrong eating here.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous lunchWe enjoyed the delicious lunch consisting of Gumbo, shaved, Brussel sprouts salad , chicken liver pâté and beet salad. On addition the waiter was so good. He was so knowledgable , gracious and a fine young man!
Thank you for a fine welcome to New Orleans!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousGreat meal- loved the southern antipasti plate and the homeade garlic sausage. retaurant was a little dark and had some funky air temp issues- was warm- then freezing. But the service was lovely and the food was tasty. Would go back.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSome of the two top seatingSome of the two top seating was too close. We were basically dining with the couple next to us. Otherwise, all of the food and service were great. I think I would request courtyard seating next time.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGood find in the French QuarterRight off of Jackson square, but the bar and restaurant are quiet, and a good reprieve from the noise of the quarter. Very good food and service.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and cozyThe food here is great. I would highly recommend the beet bruschetta and the root beer float for dessert. The only complaint is that it is very dark and hard to see your menu for older eyes. Great if you can sit in the courtyard though.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat NOLA foodI ate at a bunch of different restaurants, and Sylvain was better than them all. The prices were far more reasonable, and the food was better than Cochon was.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSomething Different with flairAs someone who lives @NOLA it's easy to get lazy about going out. We have a few spots that are favorites, and sometimes we even cook at home. After walking by Sylvain and reading the menu about 10 times we decided to check it out,
The entry is through a side door and courtyard. Although we weren't offered a seat out there, it looked very inviting in they way these secret gardens do. The dining room is small, noisy, and fairly dark making the menu a challenge, but our waiter was helpful so all was well.
The food was perfect. The Southern Antipasti an Orange salad are both musts! The entr'ees were all delicious and unique, not just the usual Creole attempts. Very good all around.
The wine selecton is adequate for anyone. Excellent place.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappoints! The food here is always delicious and inspired. Great cocktails, as well.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden Gem in the French QuarterIt's really easy to pass this place by. It's just off Jackson Square with just a couple of windows on Chartres Street. You enter through the alley. But the food is interesting, excellent, very reasonably priced, and a good mix of lighter fare (sweetbread appetizer and a killer hamburger) and main courses (try the beef cheeks). On top of that, the cocktails are unique and excellent. How many bartenders use eyedroppers to ensure the just right amount of special ingredients. Make a reservation or snag a place at the bar.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for NolaFantastic little find in the quarter with scrumptious well thought out menu selections. Make a reservation.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMVery unique Bloody MaryExterior appearance was not very inviting so went in not knowing what to expect. Service and staff very accommodating and brunch choices were both unique and yummy! The highlight was the most unusual Bloody Mary we have ever had! Each sip brought a different flavor.....would go back just to have another of those. Patio dining was enjoyable on a warm Sunday morning.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat combo of offering smallGreat combo of offering small and intimate, casual, hip, friendly experience with, most importantly delicious food. We had savory beignets and a southern antipasti including pickled okra and home made mustard. We then had gulf shrimp piloo and pork shoulder with collard greens and an son mills grits. The pork shoulder itself was just ok (pulled pork shaped into small patties, but a bit dry) but the rest was really fantastic. Thenshrimp in particular seemed very fresh, not sweet but full of flavor, and very tender so not overlooked.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat return visitWe were brought here in late 2012 by friends from the area. Loved it and came back after a conference in town. Small-ish space in an intimate setting. Food was great again. Veal sweatbreads, chicken liver crostini (yummy!), the brussel sprout salad (an under-rated star), and the beef cheeks were all great. Drinks were great too and they were nice enough to walk me through a selection of rye/bourbon based cocktails (as one should do when in New Orleans).5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMKeeps getting better! This was our 2nd time, we also dined at Sylvsin last year. It was wonderful!! I had the grouper over a kale & mushroom risotto and my fiancé had the bolognese. We will be back the next time we are in NOLA!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved our experience at Sylvain.Loved our experience at Sylvain. The food was really good, the service impeccable.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMHistoric location-delicious foodOur recent New Orleans vacation included dinner at Sylvain Restaurant in the French Quarter. It was a perfect evening. The staff were all courteous and offered recommendations on both the food and cocktail selections. We enjoyed a tasty Sazerac cocktail before dinner. Our entrees were Duck Confit and Poppardel Bolognese. Each was delicious. The menu includes some lighter choices as well. We were very pleased with everything about the meal.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great!! Will go backFood was great!! Will go back next time I am in New Orleans and recommend it to others.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood tastes great and makesFood tastes great and makes you feel good afterward--not too heavy, etc. Wine was on the ridiculously pricey side--I never quite "get" that--a glass of wine that costs nearly what your entree does... but otherwise, a lovely ambiance, great service, etc.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOur second visit to this outstandinOur second visit to this outstanding little spot. Will go back again.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my absolute faves. One of my absolute faves. Lots of character, great food and great cocktails!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great, as usual. The food was great, as usual. We ended up 30 minutes late on a busy night, and the restaurant did still seat us where we had requested for a birthday party. We were outside in the courtyard, which was beatiful, except when the AC generator would run loudly. It was the first time there for most of the group, and they many compliments for the food and the environment. We're not an easy group to take care of, so congrats to Sylvain for that.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for Beunch and sat inWent for Beunch and sat in the courtyard. The food was delicious and the ambiance was incredible it didn't even feel like we were in the French quarter. The food was delicious as well4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was FANTASTIC! Had theFood was FANTASTIC! Had the beef cheeks - out of this world tender. Salad was fresh and crispy - awesome. Little noisy, but not too bad.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI was pleasantly surprisedI was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. The Brussels Sprout salad is to DIE for! Scallops were also very good. Will return.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMagnificentExceptional on all levels. My boyfriend and I were visiting from New Jersey…specifically Monmouth County. I got goosebumps when I saw the “Nieux Jersey” on your cocktail list and that $1 of every drink was donated to Hurricane Sandy relief in Monmouth County. Best experience in New Orleans! Thank you Sylvain!!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMI have never been to SylvainI have never been to Sylvain prior and I had a great time. I love the ambiance, the decor, the cortyard. It was to humid to sit outside but we had a nice table for two in the dining room. The bar was packed with what looked like locals. The menu was great and my app/dinner was very good. Drink times were quite slow, but our server was on top of it and was always informing us of progress along the way. Great experience over all!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOur party of six had a greatOur party of six had a great time with cocktails (love the lavender in the champagne cocktail), wine, food (yummy food). Martha did a great job in the kitchen and Alexis did wonderful ensuring smooth activity. But John Eric gets the big high fives for his attentive and responsive tending to the diverse six that we were.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
