A word from Sylvain
In fall 2010, Sylvain opened its doors in one of the world’s most celebrated neighborhoods. By celebrating the city's storied past as well as creating a menu and design aesthetic that blends both the past and future, Sylvain provides an oasis of style and unmatched quality. From dining on elevated bistro classics to enjoying a wine program and cocktail menu that leans toward the classics while embracing the resurgence of cocktail culture, guests will savor the restaurant's unspoiled rawness and modern luxury.

Our tree-covered courtyard only adds to the space's timeless feel to create a truly New Orleans experience. By restoring the historic doors, ceilings, and balconies to their original glory and adding elegant seating, lighting and artwork, Sylvain feels at once historic, yet thoroughly modern — all done with a nod to the comedic opera that bears its name. And isn't a skillfully-performed comedic opera something any truly great New Orleans restaurant should aspire to be?

We have eaten several times at Sylvain and always had a terrific dining experience. We took friends from out of town there recently and were sadly disappointed. Our table WAS ready when we arrived, but after cocktails and salad, our entrees took FOREVER to arrive. They were not even that crowded, so there must've been some problem in the kitchen. Afterwards we heard that the original chef had left, so that might account for the mediocre food. Also, it used to be a good value, but the prices (and especially the wine list) have escalated to the point of being out of touch for this more casual restaurant. Also, the noise level was so incredibly loud that we couldn't even have a conversation with our guests. Too bad! I have always loved this restaurant and hope it will rise again to its previous standards.

We arrived early and we're happy to just sit at the bar to have a drink until our reservation. They offered to try and work us in earlier. We sat outside and had a fabulous meal with extra great service. The atmosphere, food, drinks and services could not had been better.

I've eaten a few times inside Sylvain for dinner so I wanted to try eating outside for a lunch meeting. It was great. The daily market salad really stood out but my favorite item has always been the chocolate pots de creme. The service is always fun and relaxed and every cocktail is served with the best ice to showcase the craft whiskies and craft cocktails.

This was my first time at Sylvain and did not know what to expect. Had it not been fridged outside, dining in the courtyard would have been a treat. When I walked into the dining room I was a little disappointed since I was there for a romantic night with my husband. I looked at the menu and nothing really peaked my curiosity. I went with the waiters suggestions. Every dish was DELICIOUS! ...and by the end, felt very comfy in the environment. Certainly would recommend this place. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Be sure to make a reservation. They're not very big. The drinks were very tasty. The server was attentive and answered all of our questions. I have an allergy to raw onions. So the server talked with the chef and they made an accommodation. The cheese plate was generous. The mains were well proportioned and tastes very good.

I enjoyed both the chicken & biscuit appetizer as well as the crispy pork shoulder With grits. The only beverage I thought was off was the sherry, which had a sour finish. The service could have been faster and less pretentious. Also, we arrived 7-8 mins before our reservation, and our table was not ready...that doesn't seem right.

This wasn't my first time to Sylvain and won't be my last. The menu does not disappoint...including sweetbreads, beef belly, duck confit and beef cheeks. Luckily, I was with a group and we agreed to share all these items. The sweetbreads were cleaned to perfection and melted in your mouth. The beef belly was SO much better than pork belly with it's tender and less fatty consistency. The duck confit was just as tender with the needed crunch of the perfectly cooked skin. The members of my group were not familiar with beef cheeks but all left wishing cows had more than two cheeks! I'm pretty sure you cannot go wrong here...unless you don't have a reservation.

We chose Sylvain for a good friend's birthday dinner. A group of six of us had reservations for 9:30 pm. We got there early, had a few cocktails at the bar and waited. Our table was delayed and we weren't seated until 10 pm, but the wait staff were completely accommodating and apologetic, even bringing out complimentary champagne and appetizers. Everything was absolutely delicious - pork shoulder, beef cheeks, fish, burger, we ordered almost everything on the menu and nothing disappointed. Not to mention the music consisted of new age indie songs that made it a different atmosphere that we very much enjoyed. It was a wonderful experience, something different in the French Quarter. We will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed the food and service at Sylvain. The cocktails were interesting. The Pork shoulder was great and the collard greens & grits were the best I've ever had! The chocolate pot de creme was a perfect finish. We sat at a table outside and the quiet energy of the restaurant was a welcome change of pace from the frenzy of other parts of the French Quarter. The restaurant is dimly lit and appears closed if you're not looking carefully!

Sylvain was recommended to me by a foodie/friend of mine for a good place to have a business lunch and she was right on target. It turned out to be a beautiful day to sit outside, the food was wonderful and our server was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and preparations. These people take pride in their craft, and you can always really tell in the food they put on their plates and in the cocktails they serve. It's a very laid back atmosphere. This is the perfect spot if you want to make it a long lunch that devolves into a few cocktails and blowing off the rest of the afternoon. Get the Brussels sprout salad as an app.

We arrived a little early for our brunch reservation and were seated promptly. Our drinks and appetizers arrived in a timely manner and were quite good. However, it took 1 hour for our entrees to arrive. The food was very good, but after waiting that long, I think almost anything would have been good. We spoke the the waiter about the delay and he said he'd check. But we still waited. I think he didn't put the order in. Also, I had indicated that this was a birthday celebration when making the reservation and there was nothing special done for us.

We went to Sylvain twice - for dinner and brunch. Both were excellent - the best food we had in the Quarter - staff was very nice and we enjoyed their salads, chicken buttermilk sandwich (amazing! - nice to share) and also had brunch that was great (brioche French toast, sausage patty, grits) all top notch. The bar scene is not typical NoLa and I appreciate there was no TV!

The noise in the dining room was so loud we could barely have a conversation and the restaurant was so dark we needed to use our flashlight app. to read the menu (we were not the only ones). I've also read from other reviews that the back patio is noisy because of the HVAC. I noticed there were a few tables in the middle "alley" that may have been quieter, but the setting there left a lot to be desired. Not sure I would have been too happy had we been seated there either. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic dinner, this is probably not the best restaurant, but the food was delicious and the service was very attentive - no complaints there. Had the beef cheeks - yummy.

My 85 year old father and 11 year old daughter and I ate at Sylvain on a Sunday morning, and sat in the courtyard. The service was lovely and attentive, and every single item we ate or drank was delicious, from the champagne cocktail with a taste of lavender to the absolutely amazing bacon (and there was a lot of it!). It wasn't fast service (it never seemed to be in New Orleans), but it was just right, and we had a wonderful meal.

You have to find your way down a narrow alley, darkness relieved only by candles on the window sills of the dinning room, to a courtyard to find the host. A bit of a trudge for someone walking only aided by a cane as was my dinner partner. Involving two very low steps not really handicapped friendly. Once there, we where let to a table in a vibrant Bistro which did get a bit loud a times but only from the pleasant conversation of people enjoying great food, drink and company. I found the courtyard to be much quieter so weather permitting, you may want to dine al fresco. Either way, you'll enjoy courteous, unpretentious, knowledgeable service and great, great food. Hey, I'm there for the food.
