Getting there

  • Cross Street: Langley Road and Sumner Street
  • Public Transit: We are located across the street from the Newton Centre Green Line T Stop. When you exit the station, turn right on to Union Street. Beacon Street and Sycamore Restaurant can be seen directly across from the park.
  • Parking: Street Parking
  • Parking Details: There is metered parking along Beacon Street and 1-2 hour parking on nearby side streets. There is also a public lot between Beacon Street and Langley Road. Most meters in the area shut off at 6:00pm.

    The private lots behind the restaurant and adjacent buildings are not Sycamore's own and are not recommended for parking. Cars may be towed from these lots.

Sycamore is a seasonally inspired, chef-owned neighborhood bistro in Newton Centre. Emphasizing locally sourced produce, fish and meat, our menu draws on classic European country food; rustic and wholesome. Our beverage program is designed to complement the cuisine. The wine list focuses on passionate small producers, our beers are by and large domestic craft selections and the cocktail list highlights classic drinks and sipping spirits.Continued

  • "We LOVED everything we ate at Sycamore! The waitress was spot on to the delicate balance of attention. We loved the look of the place...very welcoming relaxed, but still special. I have paid SO much more for SO much less than you get at Sycamore. Portions are not such that you will be taking a doggy bag home, but I'll gladly trade volume for creative and fresh any day! Two of us had the salmon..loved it, another got the steak frites...he was VERY happy, and my husband got the chicken and he too, was VERY happy! We'll be back! Soon!"

  • "It was our first time at Sycamore in Newton. There were four of us and while we all really liked our meals and sampled everything from drinks to salads to entrees and dessert and were expecting it to be expensive, we were not expecting an almost $400 bill (that's including tip). We will certainly go back again and it is a terrific little restaurant, it just won't be every week. My husband and I dine out once a week, but will have to save Sycamore for once and a while or special occasions. If you are looking for something different, Sycamore offers a variety of different foods, that you simply won't find on your average restaurant menu."

  • "Anniversary dinner at a new place. It's a small restaurant and seating is pretty tight. We were early so it wasn't yet full. Service was great and well coordinated (a couple different people came to check up on us.). Good recommendations on alcohol and food. We had the lamb board--first night back luckily--and I'd recommend it highly. Great combinations of flavors, and the different preparations were all good (garlic panisse were excellent, as was the sauce). Also definitely check out the chorizo croquetas! I'm sure we'll be back."

  • "We saw the piece on Chronicle a second time and decided we had to go. Because of our ages, we went early, walking in as they opened. We had the opportunity to meet and greet "the Team". They were all engaging, upbeat and knowledgeable. Enjoyed drink at bar so gave up table and ate at the bar. Scot made Linda the best Martini she ever had and I gave him license to create a Manhattan-style drink. It was wonderful. We shared oysters and a duck platter. I had bierwurst and coleslaw to myself. We shared carrot cake desert, which Linda pronounced excellent. Spoke with other diners on both sides and really enjoyed ourselves. We will return."

  • "Sycamore's food is good if you are a big meat eater. The non-meat options are minimal and the menu is limited. The meal was fine, but I don't feel the need to go back. Sort of a been there, done that experience. The tuna crudo special appetizer was lackluster as was the carrot cake. Steak and duck were very good and worth a try."

  • "I took my wife here for her birthday. The food was excellent. I had the salmon and she had the monkfish. Both were perfectly prepared and elegantly served. For the quality of the food, I think the prices are surprisingly moderate. I especially appreciated a very nice house red at $7 a glass. If I have one complaint it would be that the service is a bit too friendly. I would prefer that the waiters be somewhat more diffident, but that's just me."

  • "The food was really good. We had the duck platter which was decadent- lamb made 5 ways. Delicious. The staff were incredible--very nice, genuine, and incredibly attentive. Went with someone who is gluten intolerant and the waitress was very helpful in this regard. Also, when the waitress came out to clean the table with a damp cloth, the person I was with mistook it for a warm cloth to wash our hands and face after meal. The waitress ended up bringing over warm cloths for us afterwards, not something they normally do! Very sweet"

  • "With all the new places that have opened in the Newton Chestnut Hill area...this is the only restaurant that I will actually RETURN to!!! I've been so disappointed by Davios, Seasons 52, The Cottage, etc...finally Sycamore offers a welcome change to the same, old same old. They use good, fresh ingredients, and the preparations have a lot of flavor and character. I definitely recommend ordering the gougieres (cheese puffs) as a starter. They are delicously fresh, bite-size, warm, authentic...as you would find in Paris. The chicken was crispy, succulent, fresh, not reheated, delicious. Wait staff are friendly, accommodating and helpful. I will return!"

  • "Why no Sycamore when I lived here in the 80s and 90s ? After much prompting by foodie friends, hubbie and I finally tried it last Sunday night and had a very positive experience from beginning to end. Spent about $75 p.p. but ate and drank alot on that. Saw familiar faces; felt like part of the "in" crowd, were treated very well by staff, and found literally nothing to karp about (and we're in the business and tough critics). Bravo!"

  • "Overall food was great -- we really enjoyed the shared duck entree for 2. Ambience was not what we expected -- too noisy to call it a great place for a 1:1 date night. It was my wife's birthday and she'd been dying to try this place since it'd opened and received such good reviews in the Globe. The waiter never introduced himself nor his role to us -- when a guy in a striped button up shirt and pants approaches your table and doesn't announce himself, it feels a little off-putting. He was knowledgeable in the menu and had great recommendations. Food was not rushed. The 'winter green' salad had one piece of actual green lettuce -- the rest was red leafed lettuce, white stalks. For a $200 dinner for two, I would've hoped for more."

  • "Food quality and presentation was nice, we ordered the duck for two, but we didn't get the whole duck which was disappointing and misleading. One entire thigh and breast were missing and for $65.00 it was a rip off because it came with nothing except a small and I mean small portion of spinach. Apps were small portions and the wine list was astronomical there was ONE bottle for 33 which tasted like balsamic vinaigrette it was so acidic, we ended up spending 50- to get something acceptable. Waitress was a bit awkward. Desserts were tiny and expensive. Wouldn't rush back anytime soon. We were still hungry when we left."

One in the party had the lasagna and it turned out it had more mushrooms than he realized, and he is not a fan of mushrooms, but that was ok. We were celebrating a birthday and did not have dessert because returning home for cake, but the waitress brought over little cookies for each of us with a candle - was a very nice touch."

  • "Heard alot of good things about this place and it did not live up to it. Very amateurish. The salad was bland, the calamari did not work with saffron and ink . The duck board was delicious. The server was pleasant but not very knowledgeable. It seems they are trying too hard to be a "Destination" restaurant and should concentrate on being a good solid neighborhood joint. The wine list is thoughtful and interesting. I will try it again. I can think of many other suburban restaurants that are better."
