Getting there

  • Cross Street: Langley Road and Sumner Street
  • Public Transit: We are located across the street from the Newton Centre Green Line T Stop. When you exit the station, turn right on to Union Street. Beacon Street and Sycamore Restaurant can be seen directly across from the park.
  • Parking: Street Parking
  • Parking Details: There is metered parking along Beacon Street and 1-2 hour parking on nearby side streets. There is also a public lot between Beacon Street and Langley Road. Most meters in the area shut off at 6:00pm.

    The private lots behind the restaurant and adjacent buildings are not Sycamore's own and are not recommended for parking. Cars may be towed from these lots.
A word from Sycamore
Sycamore is a seasonally inspired, chef-owned neighborhood bistro in Newton Centre. Emphasizing locally sourced produce, fish and meat, our menu draws on classic European country food; rustic and wholesome. Our beverage program is designed to complement the cuisine. The wine list focuses on passionate small producers, our beers are by and large domestic craft selections and the cocktail list highlights classic drinks and sipping spirits.Continued

  • "We had to wait in a cramped area for over a half hour to be seated as the people before us took over 3 hours to give up the table. The noise levels are very high and the wall and ceiling surfaces have no accoustic qualities. Whilst the menu has a limited choice the food is excellent and the wine list and service good as well."

  • "This was my second visit to Sycamore and I SOOO wish it were in my neighborhood. It would be my go-to. It was totally worth the hour drive in yucky traffic. The staff is warm and helpful, the room casual/chic, the food awesome. We had a pig trotter snack - little crispy porky croutons on a mystery sauce that the hubby practically licked off the plate. Crudite and smoked onion dip - very fresh tasting with interesting heirloom type veggies. A salad of baby kale, spiced cashews and sliced nectarines with buttermilk dressing that we could not believe was made up of so few ingredients it has so much flavor. For entrees we had swordfish with romesco sauce and grilled scallions, and a sea bass special. Both were great."

  • "Small menu but each dish was executed well. We went at 7:30 pm and got the last 2 trout entrees so diners who prefer to eat later may be disappointed. Wine by the taste, glass and bottle . I got to try more wines by choosing the taste size priced in the 2.50-3 range creating a custom wine flight. Pot a creme was incredible guilty pleasure as dessert. Reasonably priced for portions and quality. ."

  • "Sycamore was incredible. Set in an intimate setting, our waiter was friendly and attentive and helpful with our wine selection. The food (as always) was amazing from small plates to appetizers, dinner and dessert, the combination and flavors and the presentation was outstanding. When our waiter learned that we were having dinner there in celebration of our anniversary, he came out with two lovely glasses of Cava. This is truly a five start restaurant."

  • "Had been there before when it was particularly noisy. Friends wanted to go there so we agreed. Because we were there early on a Saturday night it was not crowded and the noise level from talking was much better. However, the music (rather than the talking) was loud. We asked the waiter to turn I down so we could talk and she did do it. Food was good but not outstanding. We probably will not got back."

  • "This was our 4th visit in the last year. While many of the apps are strong and totally luscoius, we find the entrees less compelling. Minuses: First and foremost was the fussiness of the service. While the servers themselves are friendly and great, we felt that someone was ALWAYS there at our table, clearing silver or replacing silver (hate to see the waste of resources)or unnecess water filling; checking in w/us too often. Leave us alone and let us have a conversation! The croquetas and goug. are great; the zucch soup and snap pea w/ strawberrys overpriced. Ditto the daily Fish Board; the 'flavor enhancers' (tapenade etc) were all but one- v heavy on salt, and felt like $68 for two was just too high. we may wait before heading back soon."

The food was fabulous....we ordered the fish board which had some things we wondered if we would like....it was all terrific! Our server was helpful and knowledgable as well as friendly. We had a great meal and would highly recommend. If you are looking for fine food in a relaxed setting this is it....consistently good."

  • "We've been to Sycamore more than half a dozen times. The experience has varied, as has the noise level. The food, which was always good, seems to be getting even better. The servings are appropriate and the preparations are properly controlled in richness. It's one of the few places that doesn't require a final course of Tums. I love that they bring the wine bottle to the table when you order by the glass and allow you to taste before filling the glass. Their "blackboard" wines are definitely worth considering. I just wish they'd get an espresso machine."

  • "Sycamore is a gem. The food is wonderfulL The chicken is moist and savory; vegetables are fresh and creatively prepared; mushrooms are the best; the recipes are creative & amazingly fresh. We loved the strawberry and pea salad. Wine list is great; excellent recommendations were made. Our waitress was wonderful--her friendly disposition & knowledge of the menu and preparation made us savor our dinner even more. The owner came over to say "hello" --he too was very friendly and it is clear that he loves having a restaurant that serves such fresh and savory foods."

  • "Sycamore is a sweet restaurant. The people who work there are nice and the food is good--sometimes extraordinarily good, sometimes just so so. But they are so overbooked that not only do they ask for a credit card for a table for four but they begin badgering you to leave after two hours. While you are drinking your coffee and having your dessert they start dropping by the table and trying to clear that last bite, asking you over and over again if you are done. Its not like we were settling in for a long night of hogging the table but it was an important dinner out. A table for four has to take longer than a table for two. It was a crude way to turn the table faster."

Upscale without being pretentious. Some recommendations: Snacks & Starters: smoked bluefish pate, strawberries and snap peas, foie gras and duck liver mousse; Main course: lamb board; side: warm farro and fava beans; Dessert: brown butter brownie.   • "I have to say, the customer service was perfect, we arrived a little early and the hostess did her best to get us in sooner, which she did :-) We were a little confused because what looks like a bar there is but in order to get a drink you have to go through the hostess, fine by me but good to know. We had the warm olives medley and the pork balls, which were delicious!!! Now I love to cook and I love food but when it comes to seafood especially salmon its not my first choice. It sounded good and I was intrigues so I ordered it. The piece was amazing, I literally was trying to peel the rest off the skin hahaha. I could of eaten the whole fish. I was sad to see it go so quickly, next time I will savor every bite!!!! "

  • "My husband & I dined here on a Sat night. We were seated in the corner wrap-around booth. Perfect arrangement for 2 people as the restaurant does get pretty lively when it's full. The food was excellent. We started by sharing chorizo croquettas & squid salad. For dinner, he had a delicious salmon dish that was cooked to perfection. I enjoyed my roasted chicken thoroughly. It was crispy on the outside & the inside was juicy tender good. For dessert, we shared warm beignets with a little bowl of caramel for dipping. Boy, the memory lingers on that one.... Our bottle of Syrah was smooth with a full body. Our waiter was Matt. Loved this guy! His personality & the way he approached our table was refreshing. Can't wait to dine here again! "

  • "We got there at 8:25 & our reservation was for 8:30. We were not seated until 8:50 & there were no apologies offered. There were two empty tables of 4 but for some reason it didn't occur to them to separate the tables & seat us. Finally thats what they ended up doing. My husband had the salmon which he said was tasty. I had the vegetable paella which was awful, since it wash't a paella. Basically I was served steamed brown rice, topped with raw lava beans & semi cooked peas- EXTREMELY misleading & disappointing. More than the food the biggest disappointment was the space, crowd & the overall service. I'm happy not to go back!"

  • "This was my third time at Sycamore and it was outstanding! We tend to shy away from dining on Friday or Saturday nights because it can be tough to get the best food and service. We arrived 2 hours early for our reservation and hoped we could squeeze in at the bar which we did. The host was very accomodating and moved us to a bar table as soon as it came available. Our server, Matt, was warm, genuine and professional. The meal was superb...especially the spring ragout and the rabbit sausage. zach made great wine suggestions and as always Scott made some delicious cocktails. Lydia and David in the kitchen are a dynamic duo. Can't wait to go back. Thanks for a great night!"
