A word from SY Kitchen
S. Y. Kitchen offers indoor and covered patio dining in a setting that suggests “a California version of a little Italian farmhouse”. Cuisine is Modern Rustic Italian featuring fresh and local ingredients.

“There—in the front room, dining room, or porch of the charming farmhouse—diners can spend the evening lingering over warm octopus salad, a wood-fired pizza or hearty dish of wild mushroom pappardelle……. paired with a bottle of Italian or local wine, of course.” Santa Barbara MagazineContinued

Diner Reviews
  • "SY Kitchen has become one of our favorite places and a must when we are in the area. The service always great and the food delicious and fun too."

  • "Went for lunch at 1pm. It was so quiet we had the whole place to ourselves for about 1/2 hour. The food is very tasty, but I have to say pricey.Especially for lunch. A bowl of pasta $16.00! Dessert was $8-9. I could see this as dinner prices but not for lunch. Our waiter was friendly."

  • "We spend quite a bit of time in the Santa Ynez Valley and used to always go to another Italian restaurant very nearby but not since SY Kitchen opened. It is a incredible place to have dinner after a long day of wine tasting. The food this past weekend raised the bar even higher for other restaurants in the area. When eating there, be adventurous, try something you have never had before, and you will be mesmerized by the food, the staff, and the ambiance. Enjoy. Reservations a must though as this place is hopping!"

  • "This is easily the best place to eat in the Santa Ynez area including Solvang, Los Olivos and neighboring areas. The food is first rate, simple yet refined and fresh as in farm to table. They also have a notable wine list featuring local wines, Italian varietals, etc. Try to snag a spot on the outdoor patio. If you're lucky enough reserve a room at the cool For Friends Inn walking distance to the restaurant and enjoy a free dessert courtesy of Jim and Debbie. Buon Appetit!"

  • "Food was delicious! Service was fantastic! We started with the cheese board, then split the fresh pea salad, and enjoyed a bottle of Prosecco. My husband had the meat ragu and I had the pappardelle pasta with wild mushrooms. And we ended with the panna cotta. It was all wonderful!"

  • "We walked in to the restaurant to music from The Godfather, were warmly greeted by the staff and shown to our table. Candles in Chianti bottles and red-and-white checkered tablecloths created a cozy atmosphere. Our dinner was served "family style" so various courses on platters to share. We thought that each course was our favorite one! Very comfortable, excellent people watching, and both of us commented that it was a mini vacation. One of the best dinners I've ever had."

  • "Can't beat perfection! It's the best Italian restaurant in the Valley. We go often, always try new dishes, and are never disappointed."

  • "They soon celebrate their one year anniversary of being open. I've eaten there 6 times and will continue to go back. The food is very very good and the service is also very good. It gets a bit loud that is OK overall. The locals eat there as well as many just passing through. They seem to have the right mix of everything. It is not elegant but it has a very nice ambiance and the food is tops."

  • "My experience at SY Kitchen was very good. Delicious food, good service (especially the bus boys/support staff) and a very good mixologist. I hope that this place is indicative of the direction the Santa Ynez culinary community is going. Will be back!"

  • "I enjoyed visiting the restaurant. All the people were very helpful. I was greatly disappointed that the new restaurant spent so much money on the inside (hard surfaces) but did not install any noise reduction tiles in the ceiling."

  • "This was our second dinner experience at S.Y. Kitchen and, as before, we were HIGHLY satisfied with the food and service. Being able to dine at an Italian restaurant, which serves authentic food - both for the quality and the preparation - is very important to us. We know that whenever we eat here we will not be disappointed."

  • "We had the roast duck and pasta rustico. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. I would recommend getting there a little early to enjoy a pre - dinner cocktail...they have a mixologist and a fantastic selection of cocktails."

  • "Great service. Octopus salad was outstanding. Lobster spaghetti was meh. Couldn't find the meat. Great service. Drafty area where we sat made things less than optimal."

  • "We came here for my boyfriends birthday dinner and I am SO GLAD I picked it. I had the special with short-rib and pasta and it was divine. My boyfriend had a NY steak and they sliced it and put Parmesan slices in between. Oh man.. SO GOOD! Two downsides: crazy cold draft underneath if you are sitting with your back towards the front wall. It was my boyfriend's birthday and on my reservation I said it was his birthday hoping for a scoop of ice cream or something but we got nothing :("

  • "I am a local person who has always recommended SY Kitchen to everyone. Unfortunately, our last experience at the restaurant was just "ok". Food was GREAT but service was not the best. We were never asked if we'd like more wine or beverage. The man in the table next to us was SOOOOO loud it ruined the dining experience. In fact, the server had to assist him when he got up because he had fallen on one of the people at his table! I was going to have dessert but my husband was so upset over the loud table next to us I thought it best to just leave asap!"

  • "Veal chop special was expensive, breaded and dry. Other pasta dish with scallops was very good. Good atmosphere but a little drafty by window."

  • "We were extremely pleased with this Italian restaurant tucked away in Santa Ynez. I really enjoyed their classically prepared minestrone as a starter. For our main course, my wife and I both had pastas, mine with a braised beef sauce and hers with clams. Both were delicious. We also enjoyed their house red wine which was good at a reasonable price. Finally, the service was outstanding with helpful information on specials, a friendly manner and timely delivery of each dish."

  • "We enjoyed our first time at the SY Kitchen and will go back again. The SY Kitchen is an excellent choice for Italian style food. The restaurant is somewhat limited in seating so I would make reservations if you plan to dine on the weekend. Being a local in the Santa Ynez valley, we are somewhat limited on our choices for dinner. We just added the SY Kitchen to our list of places we plan to frequent."

  • "This was the second time that I have this restaurant a chance. The first time I went they forgot half of my order and then tried blaming it on being busy. This time, bread was hard, forgot to bring olive oil out to the table. Had to ask for more water as well. And to top it all off, I ordered the Wild Mushroom pasta, and what I got was the special Wild Boar Pasta which wasn't worth $25. Not to mention the server coming up to my table with a spoon informing me he had been watching me eat my pasta with a fork and that I should be using a spoon... Creepy. I really wanted to enjoy this place.. And I haven't."

  • "We live in the Santa Ynez Valley, have tried the SY Kitchen a few times and really want to like it. However, the food is just mediocre and the wine list is way too expensive. The minestrone soup could be excellent, includes lots of fresh vegetables and could be great - but apparently they forgot the salt and pepper, it was quite bland. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the lobster pasta was very spicy, way to heavy with the red pepper flakes. Totally overpowered what should have been succulent lobster flavor. They do have a full bar, so skip the overpriced wine and order a drink or a beer."

  • "Great to find a charming and tasty new restaurant in Santa Ynez wine country. Located in a cozy house, the service was impeccable and friendly and the setting cozy. Pea Salad and Beet carpaccio were delicious starters. The Prawn "appetizer" was enough for a light entree - giant prawns the size of small lobsters! Prepared on an outdoor grill in good weather, in the wood-burning oven when it rains. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit - and will return !"

  • "The syk was run like a Swiss watch. Service was organized and efficient. The menu was varied and interesting. Everything we ordered was top notch. The only issue was the noise level. Restaurants commonly are too noisy for me. Their decor doesn't allow for any buffering. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience and one we have told many people about already!"

  • "We keep going back; the food is delicious and imaginative. It's a noisy, vibrant restaurant, so don't plan a romantic outing. But the service is excellent and attentive, and I've never had a bad meal there."

  • "I've heard about this place for a while , but we haven't been up to SY in a while. The food is great , and the wine list was encompassing. I don't know why some people have complained about 1) attitude --- everyone was super nice 2) expensive wine--- we got a bottle of good house local for $40 3) food -- if you don't like it , then there's something wrong with you The only thing I could mention is that for some reason, our meal took 2 hours. People that came in at the exact same time were served a course ahead of us and were out of there in 90 minutes."

  • "I had dinner here last night with three friends and we had a great experience! Everything tasted delicious; grilled artichoke, handmade pappardelle, and grilled ahi just to name a few. Definitely try to go with friends so you can order and share. It was my first time dining here since they had obtained their liquor license, the cocktails we tried were inventive and delicious and I definitely saw a couple more that interested me as well. As always, the staff was warm and inviting and allowed us to dine in a relaxed manner, yet were helpful and attentive too. Save room for the tiramisu!"

  • "This is THE hot spot in the area right now - and it lives up to its billing as far as the cool crowd hanging out, loud, lots of energy. Unfortunately, not much else to hang your hat on. We were pretty disappointed. It started with placing our order - the waiter was ultra cool (complete with fake accent) and looked at us like we were idiots when we asked a couple questions about the menu. All four of us ordered a special - and three of the people in our party found the food fair - not great. I unfortunately, received something that looked, and tasted like something my daughter could prepare in her dorm room. If you want to be seen - this is the spot. if you're looking for great food - keep looking. We won't repeat."

  • "Dining at SY Kitchen was a very pleasurable experience. The wait staff were very attentive and polite and had a smile for everyone. The food was excellent and the menu had a variety of choices. The price was commensurate with the quality of the food and the obvious "made from scratch"taste. The only minus for me--the same expeience I have at other quality restaurants--is the food is bathing in delicious olive oil. This is difficult on my digestion and my caloric intake. I would eat here several times a week, but afraid I would become overweight."

  • "Santa Inez Valley has needed a restaurant like this for a long time. impeccable food, lively ambiance and great service. I had the boar and polenta special, which was memorable. My starter was a beet salad that was sliced wafer thin and presented in a wave pattern that made even a beet salad appear novel. My wife's branzino was filleted table side with such care. The fish was moist and flavorful. The pastas are all made in-house and both parpardelles, one with wild mushrooms and the other with beef ragu, were delicious. Grappolo is a great place to go, but SYK is couple levels above. With some really bad experiences at Los Olivos Wine Merchant, it is especially nice to have a fine restaurant for our frequent trips to Santa Inez."
