  • "We visited on 8/17 (first time for all of us). I liked the vibe and the service was impeccable. I was with my parents and we were seated in the bar area of the restaurant. Pros: Very attentive and knowledgeable service, and my lamb dish and grilled veggies were awesome. We arrived early, the local movie ended early and the restaurant was very gracious about letting us come in 1/2 hour early to hang out until they opened for dinner. Cons: Very noisy in the bar area (for my folks). We could have asked to move to the second dining area and I'm sure the restaurant would have accommodated our request if we had made it. NY steak was tough and the presentation of the pork sausage was bland (it was tasty, just not pretty)."

  • "Robert waited on our table and when asked about any dish he always started by saying "Yumm". I thought his opinion might have been a little biased but everything we had was "Yumm" or better. My friend had the Cushion Steak and it was amazing (we were sharing tastes) and huge. My wife had the Gnocchi in a ragu sauce. That was one of the best Gnocchis I have tasted. I had the Pappardelle with Boar ragu. I wiped the plate clean of the remaining sauce with the wonderful bread. For dessert we all shared an Affogato (vanilla gelato in espresso) and a bowl of fresh fruit and coconut gelato in a balsamic reduction. Wow"

  • "SYK never disappoints, in our experience. The pastas are home made, creative, and delicious. The chef offers interesting and varied specials every night as well. Excellent salads and vegetables, mostly from local farms. The wine list offers a range of interesting local selections, and the Italian section is remarkably broad and original. We were able to enjoy a terrific Ribolla Gialla and a rich Umbrian red BTG! Corkage is reasonable. Service can be a little scattered but is always cheerful and energetic. We are looking forward to our next visit. Note to cocktail aficionados: SYK has one of the best mixologists on the Central Coast."

  • "This was our first visit to SY kitchen after seeing lines at the door on multiple occasions. The menu selection is eclectic and traditional at the same time. Our dinner guest had the yellow watermelon salad and we tried shaved yellow beets. Both were delicious. We enjoyed lamb chops, Grilled Salmon Puttenesca and fusili pasta with thin slices of pork cheeks. All were very enjoyable. The noise factor is high so come prepared to chat briskly as you may have to speak loudly across your table to any guests. The tables are very close together so there is little room for a special dining experience. It is fun, high energy with great ambience for a great evening. Parking is available but it fills up quickly around the restaurant."

  • "A friend who had been here recently recommended it, and I'm glad I took his suggestion. I made a 7:00 reservation for a Tuesday night - arrived 1/2 hour early, and they were happy to seat me right away. I'm glad they did - by the time I was finished, the place was packed, and the noise level was going up accordingly. The server was extremely solicitous and helpful, and the food was fantastic. Especially loved the shaved beet salad and the tiramisu was the best I've ever had - and imaginatively presented. Very casual atmosphere - shorts & flip-flops were in evidence, and kids were welcomed. I even shared bites of my dessert with the next table."

However when I inquired about a dinner menu item that I had before at lunch, the waiter said that the cook will make it for us! It was perfect!"

  • "We tried a new route to the restaurant, so we were running late , called the restaurant, they happily told us we could be accommodated an hour later. When we arrived only 15 minutes late, they were still able to seat us. My husband says this is his favorite place. The special salads were fresh: caprese and watermelon/balsalmic. He had a nice pasta dish. The marscapone/ gelato dessert is always a must."

  • "We live on the East Coast, but visit often as we have family here. We always make time to have dinner or lunch at SY Kitchen whenever we are in town. The octopus salad is outstanding (and this says a great deal as I am typically not a fan of octopus). The pastas are all wonderful (even the gluten free)! If they have the duck ragu with porcini mushroom pasta on special when you visit - order it! You will be so happy! The salmon is always great too - with various preparations (this time was a salmon puttanesca - outstanding!). We typically order wine, but the cocktails are beautifully made with fresh ingredients. They even make their own bitters! Make your mouth happy and go to SY Kitchen!"

When the waiter would describe the dishes, you could visualize each dish, and feel your mouth start to water with each detail.   • "My spaghetti al pesto with mussels was excellent. My wife's penne bolognese was too salty and relatively small. The lunch menu is pretty limited but does have some very creative items. The server was annoying and overcharged for my glass of wine."

  • "Animated and rather noisy, quite informal. The building is banal--used to be a real estate office. No table cloths, and unfortunately a TV on all the time. The food was carefully prepared--we had the excellent octopus and asparagus appetizer, one pasta dish, a pizza (so-so), and a lamb dish, accompanied by a simple red. The fresh berries with coconut gelato was truly delicious; the panna cotta so-so. The waiter knowledgeable and competent if not particularly welcoming. Overall the quality of the food is high, with some thoughtful touches, like the balsamic on the gelato, though nothing particularly creative, innovative or memorable, especially considering the steep price (90 dollars per person, including just 1 inexpensive bottle of wine)."

A large group was seated behind us and the noise level became deafening, but we were nearly done and left, while other people were re-seated. We will be back!"

  • "Suffice it to say that we had three nights in SY valley. Went to HP - my fav hangout - the first night and SY the second night. Cancelled our other res for night 3 and went back to SY Kitchen. Love the town, loved the outdoor lounge, loved Robert our server, loved the octopus salad, loved the carbonara, LOVED the cocktails and bar, lot of veg options if you ask. If you're going, book the front room for the energetic bar scene, the enclosed patio room for lovely ambiance and conversation, and the back room for larger parties."

  • "Had heard good things about this restaurant, but it didn't live up to hype. We felt that the flavor profiles were a bit off and that the dishes lacked finesse. Seemed like the chef was trying too hard to do something different instead of doing the basics well. For example, the gnocchi with shortrib ragu was overpowered with smokiness, which was not described on the menu. It's not something you would expect or welcome in a ragu sauce. The sausage in the other pasta dish was dense and chewy...not very appetizing. Too bad."

  • "From the moment we arrived, we knew this would be a great dining experience. We had cocktails at the bar & watched the skilled & personable bartender as he mixed & muddled & infused specialty cocktails. Large choice of spirits & wines. Bar itself is very attractive with small canning jars holding dried fruit, peppers, & other special ingredients. Small bottles with eye droppers contain liquid flavoring ingredients. The evening's specials were listed on a blackboard between the bar & open kitchen. Our water was professional & friendly. We had the Caesar salad garnished with crispy polenta, spinach based minestrone, bone in pork chop Milanese, pasta with rich lamb ragu, & fresh berries in balsamic reduction with coconut gelato. Superb"

  • "My wife and I ate here last weekend and really enjoyed it. We initially had reservations at another highly rated Italian restaurant down the street which was more "old school" Italian but SY was recommended to us instead so we switched. Very happy we did. Ambience was nice, service was excellent and the food was very good. We shared there roasted artichoke which was the best artichoke we had ever had. Perfectly cooked and wonderfully seasoned. Wife had a Mediterranean inspired salmon dish that was excellent and I had a pasta with a lamb ragu. I rarely eat pasta (cutting out some carbs!) and I was glad I allowed myself some pasta this night. It was excellent. We highly recommend this place."
