Diner Reviews
  • "Visiting from out of town and always check out new restaurants each time we come. Loved this place and will definitely be back. Service was warm, friendly and outstanding even on what was clearly an unexpectedly busy night for them. The bartender and servers made sure to take care of us with personal touches and to let us know when there would be a wait. The work hard and it shows - the food was outstanding."

  • "Heard very positive comments on Sweet Grass & it sounded great for my 34th anniversary. It was! The atmosphere was extremely romantic, the food was wonderful, & our server was attentive, but not intrusive. Thanks Sweet Grass for making our evening special!!"

  • "We had a very pleasant Sunday lunch at Sweet Grass, our first visit. I liked the area which was part of Memphis I am not familiar with and the restaurant decor was comfortable and stylish. More importantly, the cheese platter was interesting; I liked the bit of honey with the cheese. Then I LOVED the Hunters Hash, a duck confit with potatoes, peppers and onions in a Henry Bain sauce topped with eggs. I could have licked the plate clean. My husband and daughter enjoyed their shrimp and grits but wished they had a biscuit to mop up every bit of the juices. We will be back."

  • "Ate here for my mom's birthday and the food was fantastic. Restaurant was very quiet for a Sunday night but that did not bother us. Great food, good drinks, and good dessert. Pretty pricey but I would say it was worth it."

  • "I had the grilled salmon salad and gazpacho. My sister had the crabcakes and fried green tomatoes. Only thing missing was some good bread. Coffee was great. Service was excellent, not too crowded, quiet enough we could talk."

  • "Great little spot for brunch, delicious mimosas and bloody mary's. Not a whole lot of selection but they all looked tasty. Had the grilled portobello mushroom which was delicious and the my boyfriend had the hunters hash which was also great (a little chewy though). The service was wonderful, attentive but not overwhelming. Will definitely keep it on our brunch rotation."

  • "Had dinner and business meeting at Sweet Grass. Everyone loved the food and atmosphere. The service was top notch (thanks Nichole!!). The restaurant feels simple but elegant. Its a great place for any occassion - even just grabbing a few drinks with friends."

  • "Another fine meal at Sweet Grass. Fun, relaxed atmosphere, great food, nice wine and beer selections, and the desserts are not to be missed. We all enjoyed our own meals and sampled each others selections. The tile fish and the shrimp and grits were big hits. Carrot cake w/ cinnamon gelato and the crème brulee topped off a great experience."

  • "Our small group had a wonderful dinner this week and experienced a power outage when the storm blew through. Back up generator had hall lights, wall sconces and bathroom lights on!! What a nice touch when the manager offered us an after-dinner drink compliments of the restaurant. Always great service and love the chef's unique style!! We love the low country cuisine of the Carolinas!!"

  • "The sazerac from the bar made me think of New Orleans. Well put together. Great selection of beer and tasty low country food items."

  • "This was a nice restaurant but I made the mistake of getting the pimiento-topped hamburger. Should have ordered the chicken or duck, like my guests. The burger was good and okay, but not a show-stopper for the price. Not a whole lot of pimiento on top, either. Big thick fries came with; I'm not a thick-fry fan. My friends ordered the portobello mushroom with chicken and the duck. Both were oozing with sauces and juices and looked beautiful and tasted great. Service by Sarah was impeccable which made for a nice dinner."

  • "We had group of six who all ordered different things...all were outstanding. The blistered peppers appetizer is suprisingly good. Crab cakes are pure crabmeat! The duck was very good as well. Akso, the price was quite reasonable."

  • "Sweetgrass offers delicious and cuisine and the chef's specials are creative and delicious. Who would think to put soft shell crabs on a sandwich with a touch of avocado and special sauce? Food with a Southern flair!! Whether it is Brunch, Lunch or Dinner, it has become a favorite for us!!!"

  • "Sweet Grass is a sustainable and local ingredient establishment that prides itself on well cooked and presented dishes. They did not fail on my visit. Our food was perfectly presented from the beet salad (the goat cheese balls melted into the salad perfectly) to a right sized entre. I felt satisfied, but not over filled. It was a bit too loud due to another table that was very youthful (and often did not have the social grace to refrain from swearing - They dropped the F-Bomb at least 50 times while we dined with no regard to other) but this aside, it was a great experience and the staff really enjoys and believes in their product."

  • "Went to Sweetgrass for Easter Brunch with my In-Laws. Had a great time and even better Bloody Mary's. Sampled a little of everything on the menu--Blueberry muffins are a must try. The Biscuits and gravy were a little spicy for some at the table but quite tasty. Shrimp and Grits were, as always, delicious. Service was wonderful and we will definitely go back!"

  • "My group only had entrees (duck, quail, and the red snapper) and all were super delicious. Our cocktails were great too, ESP as they come with a similar styling as those at Next Door."

  • "I really liked the restaurant. My redfish was great and the shrimp and grits were a big hit. My only complaint really was our waiter did not bring us our drinks until we reminded him. He also didn't seem to know anything about the dishes we asked him about. He was friendly but not attentive to our part of 4."

  • "The service was less than expected for this price range. The special soup was over-spiced. The carrot cake was dry and tough."

  • "This has always been one of my favorite local spots. Food is always interesting and flavorful. Great wine list, too. Nicole was outstanding. Her service was warm, friendly and efficient. We never had to ask for anything, she took care of it all! I always send people here, and will continue to do so in the future. Thanks, again!"

  • "Diverse menu. I liked the different sized plates. You can choose a medium or large entree, depending on how hungry you are. I had the deviled crab-stuffed flounder. It was very good!"

  • "Bartender was great, loved the blue cheese stuffed olives in my martini. My arugula salad was awesome, but my deviled crab stuffed flounder was just ok. It was kind of dry and not overwhelming. My husband had the duck with the goat cheese flan and his was very tasty. If I go back, I would try a different menu item. Overall, I was not overly impressed for the price."

  • "I chose this restaurant because the reviews were good, and the menu online had a lot of options. When we arrived and looked at the menu I asked my wife if we should leave. I wish we had. Everything was overdone. The Steak and Potatoes was inedible. There was such a heavy, sweet, gelatinous "demi glace" over everything. I couldn't find the steak. I don't want to bash the place any further, so I'll stop the review here."

  • "Excellent tasting food with commendable service. Quantity of food was discouraging. If you're after flavor, great place. If you're more price conscientious then you might be disappointed. Three small (though very delicious) scallops for $28 is a bit much."
    Dined on 12/20/2013
  • "The duck breast was okay. The scallops that my wife had were terrible. They had been trimmed to less than a half inch thickness. 3 little scallops for $26. Very poor. It was our second and last time there. We are food people. Came home and prepared scallops for her the next night. They were delicious. Sorry to see this. Sorry to have to leave this feedback."

  • "The menu is interesting, arranged into small, medium, and large plates. There is a LOT of food on the large plate, so don't be daunted by the "extra" sides shown on the menu. Everything we had was delicious and prepared perfectly. I had the duck, and it was tender and moist, but the skin was crisp and not greasy at all. Butternut squash flan? Genius. My daughter had the shrimp (and scallops) and grits. They got the grits right, the dish was well seasoned, but the scallops stole the show. Because she's a sweetheart, she gave me one- and it was The. Best. Ever. Compares favorably with restaurant gems we've found around the world Oh! Try the Honey Badger cocktail! It's not the recipe you'll find online, and it is yummy- even on a chilly night."

  • "My girlfriend and I are local foodies. Sweet Grass (SG) had been on restaurant radar for some time as we heard good things from friends. We visited SG on a Sunday night to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. The reception was welcoming and pleasant. My noted accommodation on Open Table for special table was granted. The waitress was warm, friendly and helpful. The complimentary cornbread with sweet cream butter melted in your mouth. Drink list was extensive enough to satisfy most diners. We both ordered the Grilled Duck Breast which was cooked to perfection and delicious. The accompanying Yellow Squash Goat Cheese Flan was strangely a taste sensation for me. Lastly, we shared a Creme Brulee for dessert, the portion is perfect for two."

  • "The food was phenomenal! We were celebrating my hubby's promotion, and the atmosphere, drinks and food made the night perfect! We shared the mussels (with Allen Benton's bacon - seriously amazing!), grilled triggerfish and the rabbit. Everything was fantastic! Perfectly cooked and flavorful! Love this place! Will be back!"

  • "The first table we were given was in the middle of the floor next to the bar, people had to walk around the table constantly, we moved immediately to a table against the wall-much better. My mixed drink had way too much lime - the table next to us sent back their drink back twice. My meal (one of the specials) came with squash - it all still had the rind on it - the vegetables were bland - not seasoned and the rind was hard and difficult to eat. The greens on the plate were not cooked- very bland. the fish was luke warm when served but was as described - white fish - mild. The wait staff was professional and efficient. of all the places to eat, we will be making a different choice next visit to Memphis."

  • "Sweet Grass is always wonderful. This time I ordered the mussels. The arugula salad is my new all-time favorite, I'm sorry to say that the shrimp and grits were not as good as the first time I had them. Maybe the bacon was fried back then. Anyway, I still love this restaurant."

  • "Lovely little Cooper Young gem. Great food. The shrimp and grits was excellent, as were the crabcakes. Service is attentive but not overdone. Quiet, very New York'ish atmosphere. Loved it!"
